Oddworld is a series that has all but been neglected on Nintendo systems save for a handful of ports handled by third parties, but now Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty, a complete remake of the original Abe's Oddysee, has made its way onto Wii U.
We were lucky enough to chat directly in a frank and friendly manner with the series' creator Lorne Lanning in what select critics are already calling an Academy Award-worthy exchange with this marginally humble video producer. Check out the video below to hear what Lorne has to say about his series properly making it to a Nintendo system after so many years as well as the future of Oddworld and the possibility of an Abe amiibo.

I'd buy an Abe amiibo! God I love amiibo
Abe from Oddworld is definitely the last indie amiibo I thought would exist.
I'd LOVE an Abe Amiibo. I freaking love this series. Only reason I've not bought it on Wii U, is because I already got it on PS4.
Abe amiibo please
That's always the first question with third parties/indies now "DO U WANT AN AMIIBO OF YO OWN!?!?"
I'd take both an Abe amiibo and a Munch amiibo!
Excellent interview. I like this guy, I really do.
I'm gonna go buy the game now. I never bought it, even on PS4 or Vita (think it's on Vita?). But ya, Wii U it is.
And of course I'd buy an amiibo. Why not
It is on both PS4 and Vita and you own both when you buy either version of the game.
I'm waiting on NL review, but it looks like a buy to me.
I have it on ps4 but might double dip during the 15 bucks price. The no pro controller thing bummed me out though.
@Amrulez
That's a good point. Unfortunately my 64gb memcard for Vita is full to the max. So I have to delete games now to make room for new ones.
Leading me to buy English Asian retail copies of games like Digimon Cyber Sleuth just so I don't eat up precious space digitally.
Abe's pretty much the only "Smashable" third-party character that I wouldn't see as "fitting" in Smash Bros.
Why? Try out any sidescrolling Oddworld featuring him and try actually fighting anyone. The guy can't do much beside slapping. And his enemies are always far, far more dangerous than him. To put this in perspective, think of another cinematic platformer, Another World: at least, its protagonist had a gun at some point. Abe is outgunned in every way, and even his chants take a while to pull off.
@AlexSora89
But if he was put into Smash, his final smash would definitely have to be the shrykull. Not that I expect it to happen. As for an Abe amiibo; I'd buy two.
edit: someone made a basic move list for abe:

It could work.
Absolutely fascinating interview, enjoyed it immensely. I've also never played an odd world game but I can vividly remember the impact it had on PlayStation friends. Glad to have an opportunity to rectify the situation.
I really ought to go to sleep but after that interview I think I may actually have to download this game this very moment and and see what it's all about. Haven't seen the NL review yet though, have I missed it or is it coming soon?
Eagerly awaiting the NL review.
What a cool dude
God, I would sacrifice a good six or seven members of my tribe for an Abe amiibo. But no more than that, because I need to save at least twelve of them.
So, Oddworld coming to NX, yes?
I'll take munch's oddysee HD and Stranger's Wrath HD over an amiibo, thanks.
Looking forward to NL's review of this. Sadly it looks as though I won't be getting a chance to review it so I'll be turning to you guys for your opinion on whether to buy it or not.
Alex you goober, get this game! The world is great and the characters are compelling - just fab. I never played the sequels, so I'm glad I got them on PS3; will be sad to switch from Wii U to that to play the rest, but at least I'll be starting on my primary platform.
I'd also like an Abe Amiibo, that would be very cool.
@JasmineDragon the story goes that Nintendo asked them to release strangers wrath HD on Wii U as well as New N Tasty.
I have yet to watch the interview, but one simple question mister Lanning: Is the Alf dlc also coming?!
You know what? Let's bring the amiibo meta to a new level.
I want an amiibo amiibo.
So does it support Wii U Pad? May be map on it or something? If so, ill buy it. But if its just a lazy port than ill stick with my ps3 version.
No WiiU Pro? /price is right losing horn
@shaneoh
It could, but the slap should be his basic, neutral A attack. The other B attacks are well thought out.
I have the original Playstation version and the PS4 edition of New'n'Tasty but I wanted it on Wii U so I already bought it. Thanks for the great Remake I hope Abe Exoddus will arrive on Wii U or Nintendo NX!
im so thankfull man and i pay this game onb this iste

@AlexSora89
Yeah that'd make sense. I wonder how Abe's possession ability would fit.
Where's the NLife review?
Cool interview
I'm probably buying this before the sale ends. Loved the original Abe game. I hope they bring Strangers Wrath to WiiU aswell! Already bought that game twice.
@shaneoh
It wouldn't. Or maybe it would, as a neutral B that takes an awful amount of time to pull off, making the user very vulnerable. Chanting could allow Abe to possess another fighter and giving him/her five seconds to kill him/herself off, with the self-destruction taking its toll on Abe's stock if the SD is registered past the five-second limit.
It would be broken otherwise.
I hope this game does well on Wii U. The effort put into this has earned my money. Nostalgia here I come!
Lannings surprisingly seems very down-to-earth and humble. That security in his character surely will have something to do with the quality of this game.
Bought the Wii U version yesterday, (It launched with a sale!) and I immediately got an Another World/Flashback vibe going on. I knew it was a HD remake of one of PS1's top games. I remember this was one of the games like Tekken, Resident Evil, Final Fantasy VII, Tomb Raider that defined the 32-bit era. Nothing to convince me as a N64 player at the time, but something to shy away for a moment and get your hands on (if it ever found its way to you through friends).
The Wii U version, my first Abe game, looks and plays great so far. Atmospheric detailed 3D environments, a dark story with cinematic touches, good puzzles, and solid 2D stealth / classic Another World gameplay. I'm already addicted saving those.. uh, I certainly will know the names of the different species by the middle of this Oddysee.
The game is plagued by relatively long loading times though, that alone give me incentive to 100% all sections immediately so I don't have to backtrack through a series of loading screens. I try to see it as a faithful recreation of the loading time of the original game that rolled on the slow PS1 CD drive.
And about this awkward shoehorning of amiibo into everything... Well, I don't really mind. It's really "why not?" as it obviously generates money for the game creators and their fans an opportunity to get a nice figurine. Mind - as long as there's a game coming along with it, continuing the Oddworld universe on Nintendo, preferably Stranger's Wrath HD (which was once in development on Wii U) that makes decent use of the Abe amiibo
@SKTTR they're called Mudokons, as I'm sure you know by now! I would gladly make my amiibo duo a trio with an Abe amiibo. Question is, what would it do?
I like this guy! I remember when this game first came out I really wanted it but was unable. Definitely going to pick up the WiiU one, just need to knock a couple of games off my pile of shame first >_<
@SKTTR Just to note you: loadings weren't as bad and as often in the original games. But they were indeed long on PS3 NnT and I bet they are similar on Wii U
Nice interview by the way!
