The pixel-based entries in the massively popular Legend of Zelda series might lack the immersion seen in the more recent offerings like Skyward Sword and Twilight Princess HD, but they have a quality which is almost timeless.
Amazingly, even when these flat 2D images are turned into 3D landscapes, the appeal of that iconic pixel-heavy artwork remains undiminished - as you can see from the screens below. French artist Sir Carma has used 3D voxels to reproduce Link's house from Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, and it looks stunning. A mixture of old-school artwork and the kind of 3D structuring that makes Minecraft so popular, these fan-made images make us crave for a new Zelda which uses the same visual approach seen in the PS3 title 3D Dot Game Heroes.

Very nice
I love 3D Dot Game Heroes so this really hit it for me. It also reminds me of Voxatron which isn't a bad association either.
Yes please - a full Zelda game in this visual style would be splendid.
Voxels are usually much larger individually, so seeing ones this small allowing for greater detail is actually really nice.
The Minecraft statement though, so blatantly ill-suited. This is a far greater resemblance to 3D Dot Game Heroes.
WOW! That's so cool, this could be used as a lego model
Love the second image in the article. The other ones look a bit off with the grass, which is a bit too detailed and "buys" looking imo, but are still very cool.
@RupeeClock Well, a voxel is really just the equivalent of a 3D pixel, so it's not unusual at all to see them basically represent the individual pixels of some old 2D game as seen here.
Dang, I dig it.
This is beautiful!
Would make a great birthday cake.
I would be 100% behind this as a visual style for the series going forward. I've been bewildered that Nintendo hasn't made any real effort to return to what made them so popular and the style that has come back in a big way, and make more new games, with smaller teams, in pixel-art styles circa NES and SNES. I think it'd be a huge hit for both nostalgia and profits, honestly, and I'd love to see more of it coming from the original masters of it.
So beautiful!
Give me that pixel Link amiibo now please
C'est si beau
It's kinda annoying though how people associate Minecraft as the first ones to ever have made blocky/'pixels' but in 3d.
Neato! Very cool looking. Are these 3ds compatible images in 3D? Would look sweet
Looks a lot like From Software's 3D Dot Game Heroes. Probably one of the best Zelda clones I've ever played. If you haven't played it, track down a copy. Its brilliant.
3D Dot Heroes was an excellent game. First thing I thought of when I saw this...
This is really cool. In the past I hated blocky graphics or graphics which had very low polygons making circles look like stop signs. but I have to say I like this a lot
Hm.
Beautiful! And 3D dot heroes should really come to Wii u (or NX)!!
I once made an almost fully-accurate 8-Bit Link for 3D Dot Game Heroes, my first PS3 Game.
