Sonic the Hedgehog has been through a lot, as no doubt you have this week and so after a short wintry hiatus Nintendo Life Weekly is back once again to take you through all the biggest parts of the past seven days.
This week we look at Sonic soundtrack providers Crush 40 potentially leaking information pertaining to a new Sonic game to be released this year in conjunction with the mascot's 25th anniversary, a Japanese analyst's views on the NX, and a blind gamer surpassing an incredible achievement. We'll also of course be looking at the week's releases and reviews, just as it was.

The last Sonic game I thoroughly enjoyed was Sonic Heroes. Sonic Riders was also a fun one.
I can't wait until the new game! I hope it is ,,Sonic Always''. =)
I don't think a new Sonic game has been hinted. Game Grunps thing just doesn't seem solid and any under par game doesn't count as a new Sonic game. Generations was good but that was 5 years ago. Something must have happened to Sonic Team after that and I don't see Sega pulling money to make another good game every 5 years for a mostly dead series.
Another generations is nice some good news this week thanks guys as always if I make a video about it I give you guys credit!
Imagine if it's that Sonic 06 remake we heard about.
>New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Wii U)
Defies logic
Super excited for the new Sonic game!
I'm for a new Sonic game.
I wouldn't mind them doing one in the vein of Lost World.
I thoroughly enjoyed Lost World (after the patches).
Sonic is dead as a doornail at this point. The glory days of Crush 40's involvement with the series are long past. Maybe someday Sonic will be revived from the dead, Altered Beast style. ("Wyse from your gwave!") I don't have much hope for that right now, though.
Sonic Heroooooooooooooooes! I'm hoping for Sonic Generations 2 or Sonic Adventure 3. Lost World was cool in my opinion but didn't have the boost mechanic which I miss.
@PlywoodStick No one cares what you think.
@wazlon It has the boost mechanic although it takes time to get used to.
there's a sonic game on the nintendo release calendar for the 3ds called sonic boom fire & ice for q2. i am guessing that doesn't count as their anniversary game. i haven't played a sonic platformer since the genesis. i want to make it so that the second one i'll play will be the 25th anniversary game.
MANDATORY NX COMMENT: whether hybrid or not, it can't be a brand new design from the ground up considering the time between wii u release and the reported distribution of dev kits. i am guessing it's a wii u with updated chips; power9 64 bit from power7 32 bit, amd r9 m300 series from amd m4000, marketably over 8gb total memory from 2gb. tho' obviously they won't sell it as 'wii u, just more' or 'completely new, and the same'.
Anyone else sick of all the Sonic teases?
Kinda just want them to unveil whatever mediocre stuff they've got so we can move on.
I want Sonic to be good, but at this point, it just seems too far gone.
@Jamotello It's a placeholder date from Nintendo, not Sega.
I hope its not a Sonic Boom game. I want them to continue with the main series and focus on good gameplay and also expand the story(we still have that storyline from chronicles wich expanded the overall storyline, sonic colors and lost world did not). I wouldn't mind a normal 2d sonic that's fast like in the old days. I dont mind having more characters besides Sonic, Tails and Knuckles gameplay wise or storywise as long as they have some importance for the plot.
The Sonic universe has a lot of characters and it would be a shame if none ever returns just because sonicteam can't write a good story for them. I mean Mighty the Armadillo is one character i would love to play as in a future game.
PS: excuse my English, Im Dutch.
@Jamotello they referred to it as a brand new concept. A lot of people are thinking it's some wild new thing But seeing as Nintendo ignores the other two and PC. I'm taking brand new concept to mean "Not another Wii or Wii U" (going to throw DS in there too as i'm not 100% sure its not a portable/hybrid/mobile thing)
@Sanangelo89 well Sonic Team was meant to be making Sonic games whilst the boom games was being made. Sonic Boom was intended to bring more western children into the franchise (hence buff knuckles) and was never meant for Japan. But seems that all went to hell
@wazlon Wasn't Sonic '06 originalSonic adventure 3 but they changed the name as there was, at the time no Sonic Adventure games on 360 and PS 3
@HyperSonicEXE
True, all the teases will get you trapped in the sonic cycle, I'd rather know off the bat if it looks good (gameplay wise)
It will either be Sonic Generations 2, Sonic Adventure 3, or less likely, a HD Remake of the original Genesis Sonic Trilogy.
I only fear one thing, that a pattern is emerging.
10th Anniversary-Sonic Adverture 2-Critically Loved
15th Anniversary-Sonic 06-Critically Hated
20th Anniversary-Sonic Generations-Critically Loved
25th Anniversary-???-To be Critically Hated?
Any 3d Sonic game will blow my mind as always!! Sonic Colors/Lost World itineration would be awesome cause I love wisps gameplay!! but I think Generations 2 is more pausible.. if you ask me another one ala Secret Rings with motion controls could have a lot of potential
Sonic IMO its the best 3d platformer by far!!
What's the bet we're going to get a Sonic: The Maker, a sonic creation tool? That might be cool... i'll just stick to mario maker...
As much as it annoys me with how many times it has been done. Sonic needs another proper reboot. Get all the bad stuff behind him (again). And for goodness sake make a finished game! I like the ideas in Lost World alright, give the player control over his speed, but fix the parkour mechanics and bring a more open-ish world like the Sonic Adventure series. Perhaps maybe the gameplay of the next Sonic should take what they have learned from Lost World and Unleashed styles and combine them.
I won't be terribly bothered by whatever story is spat out with it. Although, with as ridiculous as it is, I will always have some heart for the Adventure series' story.
Aside from Sonic Generations, I really have not enjoyed a Sonic game in a long, long time. Sonic Rush on DS was pretty good but ultimately forgettable, as were the Sonic Advance games. Heroes was alright but again forgettable. Adventure 2 was fun, did not like Adventure 1, but no Sonic game since Sonic & Knuckles has truly kept my interest and stuck with me long after its over. I was shocked how much I loved Generations though. THAT'S how you make a good Sonic game.
Can't wait for E3 so we can stop speculating about the NX.
@Xjarnold
Especially, when, even if this hype-building is unintentional, if the game fails to live up to the kind of hype that we're seeing on the press sites, it'll damage the series.

@abe_hikura I didn't know that, but if that was Sonic Adventure 3 then it was a huge let down for a lot of people. I haven't played it yet but I've seen reviews and it looks really bad.
@GreatPlayer I don't remember Sonic Lost World having a boost. There was the spin dash and holding down the R2 button but that just wasn't the same as Unleashed, Colors and Generations - the boost in those games had a much better sense of "oomph" about them which felt so satisfying.
@TruenoGT Mediocre games? wich one??? lol
@Jamotello
hmmm.... NAH
@wazlon You are right. Actually I seldom use boosting when playing those sonic games. I actually like spin-dashing as in Lost World. Lost World does not have boosting, and I feel having much tighter control of Sonic as a consequence.
@KrakenSoup
Considering the fact that you seem to enjoyed the classic 2d sonic games, I'm surprised you found the advance series, "forgettable". I found them to be very deep platformers
