Video: Figure Out the Online Features of Xenoblade Chronicles X With The Latest Survival Guide

Great cause it was very confusing to get on squad missions with peeps. Id like to see what is recommended indeed.

I really hope this game as an online community this time next year, because I will still be playing it then too. This game is amazing. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys jrpgs.

Will come back and watch this one after I've put a few dozen hours into the single player. So probably February.

Going to put it on now.I've just started chapter 5 and I am winging it so far.I don't really understand half of what's going on but I'll get there.If it wasn't for FAST Racing Neo I would probably be much further into my quest.

@rjejr One of the interesting things is that the online portions exist even in the single player campaign. Once you reach a certain point you are asked to join a division and it assigns you to a squad. You are asked if you want to focus on the single player or multiplayer portions and then you move on.

I've only focused on the single player part. The online is just integrated into the story, with the other players being members of other squads all working the various division's goals. You are given periodic timed missions to kill x number of monsters which earn you reward tickets. Likewise, you can temporarily have someone else's player join your squad as a member for a limited time as a scout. But outside of that, you have to actively seek multiplayer missions.

Overall it is a cool concept, and it helps make the world actually feel more alive as others are actively making little things happen in your world in regards to the reward tickets.

That's good, because I never understood why at some point in the game it started asking me about some squad, without properly explaining what this is about.

The game is about to open up a whole lot for you.

The end of chapter 5 is when the story starts getting really good and intriguing, and you'll get the Overdrive skill, and the ability to re-customize your avatar.

And of course, you'll then be just 1 chapter shy of getting your pre-flight skell.

On chapter 6 now, exploring Oblivia at the moment (just wow!) and I still haven't touched online, not even once. Will defo watch the trailer once I get my first skell, soon hopefully.

@JaxonH Not to mention the vast side quests and character interaction, non main characters that is.

@Darknyht Thanks for that. Sounds pretty cool. I will 100% be choosing single player. Is there any chance to hook up w/ Wii U friends or is it all random? I'd be more inclined to play w/ people I know, when the time comes.

@Yorumi OK thanks. I really need to stop getting games for Christmas, it's putting me behind the curve. Guess I see why online multiplayer games sell so well for the first few days. And it is why I bought Spaltoon day 1, the only online multiplayer game I've ever really played. I like offline play alone and at my own pace. Or couch co-op, which is why we spend so much money on all of the toys to life games. Well not AC:aF, even I have limits.

It's amazing how this game and the zelda Tri force mention how important communication is but both fail to add voice chat. And text chat or icon can fuck off!

@rjejr I tend to actively avoid multiplayer games because most of the time I am buying into games late. I've been burned too many times by picking up something only to find out the online community is dead. I always liked games like Red Faction, Tribes: Aerial Assault, and Unreal Tournament that included bots. Granted it was partially because PS2 lacked online capabilities, but at least you could play the game regardless of the online community.

@Yorumi I haven't tried it in a multiplayer session, but I have a habit of amusing myself with the gestures when bored. I just discovered how to leave the Free Messages last night. Now I need to start participating in that, at least to have some fun while I am stupidly trying to swim around to a new area (Free Message: Hey you've really swam far, too bad it was for nothing!).

Havent joined a four member squad yet... Still kinda baffled about finding and initiating it. I'm on chapter 5 myself, but I have been knocking out side missions here and there, just to see what I get. This game is harder than XC1, so the extra EXP and BP is nice whenever I can get it. So far I've been given a trade deal and got some useful rewards from registering my avatar, hiring scouts, and killing the monsters with an S above them. So I wouldn't avoid some of the online portion just to power through the story.

@ThomasBW84: This comes to late, already figured everything out by myself (+ with a friend).

@rjejr You know this game doesn't have a separate single- and multiplayer mode? You don't need to "play the singleplayer first" because everything happens in one mode. You play your singleplayer game, maybe take the avatars of your online friends with you as a party member (together with your other NPCs) and there are always squad tasks open. Every time you or somebody on your server clears one of the five squad tasks (mostly hunting specific animals), a squad mission becomes available, which is basically fighting animals with your friends (in real-time this time) in a "restricted" (not open-world) area. But you only have 45 minutes to clear the squad tasks and to start the squad mission (which you can do from the console in the BLADE barracks).

Ah ok, thanks. Is it possible to easliy have only your friends join that or is it best not to even fret over it?

@shani Well they may not be separate, but it sounds like you can choose not to do squad missions, so I'll probably just avoid going in the barracks for awhile.

@rjejr Yeah you can do that, but bear in mind that there are different squad missions from lvl1 to lvlx. So when you play the easier ones at a later stage, it really takes the fun out of it because they become too easy, it ruins the experience of fighting for your life side-by-side with your friends.

I'm just saying, it's not like the coop part of this game is rocket science or anything, it's really simple (especially in comparison to everything else) and is meant to be played from the start. If you don't start with it now, it probably won't make much sense to do it at all because it's meant to accompany your characters progress.

Essentailly, this game is not even a 1 1/2 multiplayer, it's more like a 1 1/4 multiplayer at best. It takes up only a small fraction of the whole game, so something like 1 1/64 would probably be more accurate.

@Yorumi @shani OK thanks. I thought it would be more like Monster Hunter online where you hang out in lobbies and wait for your friends and decide what mission to go tackle and then do that. I didn't want to be level 3 while everybody else was level 25. Sounds like I'll be doing them then.

I'm 21 hours into the game and I must admit, I learned some good info from this guide!

The online portion of this game is great. Would be even better if they have a four player roaming. The ability to roam this massive world with friends would be simply awesome. Furthermore, there are a few tough SOBs in this game that is impossible to take down by yourself (lv80s 90s).

Overall great feature, but could be vastly better.

@rjejr Yeah I thought so because I can totally understand not wanting to start with that, but since the multiplayer function is so limited, it blends well in with the overall game.
Not long ago I was a real stranger to any kind of online play because of all the sources of annoyance and because my "upbringing" as a gamer was more of a solo experience (aside from the usual SNES local multiplayer experiences and a bit of Unreal Tournament with classmates, but back then I really sucked at shooters). The only games I was playing online were PES and Mario Kart Wii.
I even played most parts of The Crew without any coop or online vs elements because I wanted to drive around solo, only much later I realized how much sense it made to play coop or in PvP lobbies.
Games like Portal 2 tought me co-op play and Splatoon finally made me into a real online gamer. Still I had my problems with GTA Online for example, but not because of online in general but because of the annoyances (=dumb people).
It's really funny to see this development from an almost anti-online stance up to the point where I wish XCX had a bigger online coop element. Roaming Mira freely with friends (like in GTAO) would be awesome.

@shani Now I just have to hope people are still playing after Christmas. I can't be the only person getting it as a gift, can I? 10 more days.
