With Super Mario Maker approaching we can expect a variety of promotional activities from the big N, and Nintendo UK has an upcoming live stream that could be one to watch for retro and eShop fans.
It's announced on Instagram that it'll be hosting a live broadcast with Playtonic Games, the team of former Rare staffers and bright young coders producing the much anticipated Yooka-Laylee, which will come to the Wii U eShop. The Playtonic team will show off levels they've been creating in the game.
It's happening on 3rd September at 9am Pacific / noon Eastern / 5pm UK / 6pm CET on the Nintendo UK Twitch channel; we'll certainly be sharing that here on Nintendo Life, too.
Are you planning to tune in?
Thanks to all that sent this in.

Its cool Nintendo UK, keep doing these live videos, hope they do other games and not just Mario Maker though, I think their is enough of these now.
Can't wait to play Yooka-Laylee. It looks so fun!
I bet they're going to announce a Yooka-Laylee costume for Super Mario Maker.
I assume you mean levels they've made in Mario Maker. Your wording is ambiguous.
Yooka Laylee Amiibo that unlocks exclusive Wii U/ 3DS content? I think so.
Am I the only one who hasn't played this unreleased game yet? lol
You know what would be better than Nintendo having this little event with these guys? What would be better is if Nintendo went all in and bought these guys as a 2nd party studio!!! GGARRGGGHHH! Drives me nuts. They are clearly aware of what these guys mean to Nintendo fans of old, which is why they are doing this event in the first place! Buy them out! make them second party! Get a Yooka Laylee Amiibo on the shelves! Have Yooka Laylee as an exclusive to Wii-U and also get the characters in Smash and Mario Kart 8! I...I just don't understand...
@Duggie_Brown maybe they don't want to be want to be owned. Heck they haven't even released a game yet.
@Duggie_Brown Couldn't have said it better. Small studios are gonna get eaten or disappear, sooner or later, the way things are going. Better the devil you know, in this case.
5pm again? The same time I can't tune in on such short notices, sucks.
@Duggie_Brown several million Non Wii U-owning fans understand why this isn't happening!
Interesting that they have chosen to feature playtonic, maybe we might get a few yooka laylee snippets too
That reminds me, I know this is unrelated to Mario Maker, but did Playtonic ever say anything about Yooka-Laylee on 3DS? Think they said maybe, or New 3DS.
Why are you all so logical! Here I am, ranting utter craziness in a moment of madness and you all reply with comments that have clearly been thought through! Just stop it! Heh, in all honesty, most of what I said I do believe and would like to see. Nintendo need to make some bold moves and acquiring some key indie devs is a good start. Yooka Laylee is more than a throw back to that golden era, it's a project of passion and nostalgia, all of which Nintendo and their fans thrive off. I hope Playtonic find great success and I hope that a greater relationship builds between them and Nintendo in the future.
Good to see N getting cozy with Playtonic.
@Duggie_Brown what others said on the Nintendo buying Playtonic thing.
100% with you on a Yooka Laylee amiibo though! But it seems like Playtonic would be the ones who need to organise that. They seem like exactly the kind if folk that would want to do that as well so I think the chances of it happening down the line are high.
Ya know, the Nintendo of 5 years ago would have NEVER done something like this. Heck, the Nintendo of just 3 years ago even.
I'm noticing incredible progress by Nintendo on multiple fronts these past few years. It's just a bunch of little things that I'm seeing, and I just was thinking about it like wow, Nintendo's not the same company they were a few years ago. The eShop, Network Accounts, YouTube personality collabs, a Mario level editor, smartphone games, DLC (thank goodness they finally got with it on that one- it's nice seeing a great game expounded upon)... that's an incredible amount of forward progress for a company so reluctant to change.
Idk, just an observation I guess. I think the company is also about to change a whole lot more with the new leadership. If you compare the Yamauchi Nintendo to the Iwata Nintendo, there's actually a pretty stark contrast in direction. And that was with Yamauchi HAND PICKING his successor! Now, imagine how much that direction can turn having not been prepared for regime change.
@FLUX_CAPACITOR Yes they had. They've made every single rare-game before Microsoft bought rare. These guys are rare, actrully. The other rare is a mere corpse.
Nice to see this on Nintendo Life. Twitch chat is literally cancer.
@buildz No, literal cancer literally kills people. Literally.
Please show respect.
@amiiboacid Playtonic is just a new fancy name for Rareware. It's what the kids call Rareware these days.
Rare is an unrelated company that isn't really worth mentioning in a serious conversation about great games.
@bro2dragons It's a figure of speech, dummy.
