The DS introduced various genre ideas and intuitive ways to enjoy them, and alongside a substantial range of RPGs - as one example - there were plenty of puzzle games. Picross 3D was one such title, a relatively simple idea that was rather enjoyable as a twist on a well-established idea.
That title was developed by HAL Laboratory, and the pleasing news is that a sequel is on the way to the 3DS this October in Japan; it has improved visuals and, according to the boxart, amiibo support.
You can see some of it in the latest episode of the Cat Mario Show below - we've set to auto-play from its introduction on the 7 minute mark.
Are you a fan of the original and hopeful that this will be localised promptly for the West? Let us know.

Well the 8bit Mario amiibo is going to be perfect for this.
omfg yes please release this in the west!!
picross 3D was such a cool puzzle game!!
Nice, I hope we get it.
Love Nintendo's Picross games, will be rather made if this doesn't make it over here!
@6ch6ris6 Agreed! And to think, I was just thinking about purchasing Picross 3D online somewhere because I really miss playing it... (Probably going to buy it anyway 'cause I'm sure this isn't likely to arrive anytime soon if it does.) Surely, this is coming to North America... And hopefully it won't take forever to localize... ::fingers crossed::
I will buy it day 1 on the Japanese eShop.
i hope this one has better music though. i freaking hate the music of picross 3D. so annoying. why isn't there a single 3DS game that let's you play music from the sd-card?
Come west and bring Rhythm Tengoku The Best + with you, please.
It's always nice to see more games with Amiibo support and those Amiibo puzzles look fantastic. Hopefully they can all be used rather than just the usual select few.
Call me crazy, but Picross 3D was and still is one of my favourite games of all time ! I really hope its gets over here.
I could not be more thrilled for this! This was a game I played the demo in the days of the Nintendo Channel (just because it existed) and I fell in love. Hours upon hours were spent on 3D, and I still play it in the mornings. Dreams do come true!
This will be a day 1 purchase for me. I loved the last one and beat every single puzzle it had, even the downloadable ones.
But while we're hoping for a port of this, can we also hope for an NA release of the New 3DS? Is this too much to ask?
@TruenoGT Picross 3D has been my "bedtime game" for quite some time, untill i had to put it down because it ate up hours like crazy
Do want. Can't wait for the day when a title like this will also be immediately available on whatever Nintendo console there is. No reason for this to be mobile only except for architecture differences and different development environment, especially with the Wii U having the GamePad.
Fortunately all that is presumably fixed in the next hardware generation... we just don't get to benefit from it yet.
Also, that is why 3DS must be replaced soon along with the console whether by all in one or two or three separate devices. The sooner it happens the better for my own personal interests, but I understand why some don't want that yet.
I prefer 2D Picross over the 3D one.
Ooooooooooooooooh oh yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees oooooooooooooh
I was such a big fan of the original, so this'll be a day one purchase for me. I still have fond memories of passing the time in the airport with this~
Yes! There is absolutely no reason not to bring this overseas!
didn't picross 3D sell really well in the states? I don't see why this would come west. I know I'd get it. I hope the get the regular sized one here stateside too cause I wanna use my amiibos.
@EllenJMiller
Agreed, but I actually want this one more as RH only has like 30% new content as opposed to 100% new content on this one.

I loved the original. It took me a lot of time to buy it since I thought it would be very confusing. Only thing I hated was the lack of a zoom feature, so sometimes I would break the wrong block in the bigger puzzles.
Wait, wtf. Is that Wario Ware and Rhythm Heaven?
The first one was fairly good I suppose, but I never got much of a sense of satisfaction from the puzzles, it didn't feel like I needed to be clever, just do the math as quickly as possible. Plus there weren't very many different songs and they weren't very good and I now detest all of them as a result. So I probably won't get this, but some classic Nintendo music mixed in would go a long way to making this a purchase.
spent many many hours on the original, so excited, it will come.
Is there really no way to play it using the buttons so you could play in 3D on the top screen?
Amiibo support looks awesome.
Wow, this game has a bigger fanbase than I thought. I thought it was fun, but I think I stopped about halfway through the puzzles. I should start playing it again though, but first I have Meteos, Rad Racer and Citizens of Earth still fresh on my 'just bought and now ready to be played' list.
Wow, they announced a new game via the Cat Mario Show? I didn't think they did that
YES, YEEESSSS! Do want, do want a lot!
Hopefully it also hits Europe, and as a cartridge. I haven't heard anything about a western Rhythm Tengoku The best release yet, so I won't hold my breath. But it would be a shame if both games skip the west!
YEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSS
@iphys Yeah, they should definitely do that. Of course it could be played with just the buttons, if they're willing to put in the effort. They should allow it to be played either way, so it'd be up to the player if they care more about touch control or the depth of the stereoscopic display.
It will definitely be a shame if they release another Picross 3D on the 3DS, but don't allow it to be in actual 3D.
I Would love for this to hit the west. Should be easy to translate and everyone loves a good puzzle game, right?
Good for them. They can keep it
This HAS to be localized outside of Japan! It just has to!
Yes!!!!!!
One of my favourite games on the DS
They absolutely cannot NOT release this in the west.
I don't do double negatives, but for this, I'd gladly make an exception.
That blocky Shiba Inu from the original is still one of the most adorable thing I've ever seen in my life.
I wonder whether that creepy one-eyed mascot thing is still around? I love that thing.
Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please [breathes] Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please!!!!!!!
I LOVED Picross 3D. This would be great
I love all the picross games including 3D. So hope this gets a western release. Please please!
