It would appear that Wii U eShop platformer Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams is getting an updated physical retail release in North America.
Retailer Toys''R''Us has Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams Director's Cut listed for a September 8th release, and is pricing it at $39.99. Extra content exclusive to the Director's Cut includes new levels which were part of the Giana Sisters: Rise of the Owlverlord expansion.
Will you be tempted to pick this up in disc form if you haven't already? Let us know by posting a comment.
Thanks to Semudara for the heads up!

I'd much rather the expansion come to the eshop.
Never even heard of this game until now. The trailer looked pretty cool, though.
I've been curious about this game. I became a fan of Giana Sisters since the DS game and was hoping to see Twisted Dreams on a Nintendo console. How is this game?
Can we just get the extra content as DLC or something?
I wish the expansion would come to the E-shop... I don't want to buy the physical game just for the expansion when I own the original.
@spamineggs
Twisted Dreams is on the Wii U E-shop....
Will it have off-screen play with sound?
(Had to ask that as there was so much of an issue with the e-shop release, especially in North America.)
I can't see paying $40 for this since I have the base game on the e-shop. I would add on the DLC, however, if made available.
Certainly NOT double dipping for some extra content.
Pretty expensive... but I do love physical releases. Hmm. Tough decision. If I can find a sale, I'd buy in.
i paid about a 5er in a sale so nope wont be payin that sort of money for an OK game
@spamineggs Twisted Dreams has been on the Wii U eShop for almost two years now.
I JUST bought this game on the eshop and now the Director's Cut releases as a physical copy. Great. Well, I wouldn't pay $39.99 just for the expansion packs. Whatever, guess I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed that they release the extra content as DLC on the eshop.
I'm wondering if this is brilliant or a waste of money.......the Wii U retail release schedule is bare and some 1 million new holiday Wii U owners will be looking for games. I doubt it would take many sales to make the venture worth it.
Totally surprises me that this title is considered by someone to be a retail seller at this point. But stranger things, I suppose.
I got Giana Sisters during the last sale and I found the load times to be crazy awful. I don't know if it was because it was reading from my external or what, but it took so long to load levels that I just gave up.
Seems a bit much for a game that's been out a while. I picked up the game a couple of weeks ago when it was on sale for less than $5. I love physical releases and would probably consider buying this at $20, like the Duck Tales physical release, but $40 is a bit much. Fortunately I see this getting discounted rather quickly.
Why? Just why?
Nope.
$40 for a game that costs $15 on the e-shop and $10 for the expansion on playstation, is a pretty high price for it. Does it have anything else added, or just that?
@spamineggs Twisted Dreams has been on the Wii U eShop for 2 years...
40 bucks? Really? What are they smoking cause I want some!😃
@Kenology yeah, I know it's not new to the system. I meant when it was new (and only on Xbox, PC, and PS3) I hoped it would come to wiiu
I enjoyed the DS game (Though perhaps it was a but too easy, as I 100% it on my first time playing it)
Buuuuut the price seems to be bonkers.
$40? What does this version has to justify the price compared to the eshop one?
Played the original on the Commodore 64, and this one on the PS3. Too little, too late I'm afraid Nintendo.
@SetupDisk Same. I really like this game, for sure a top 5 eshop game for me, and i would very much enjoy the expansion mode, but i certainly will not pay $40.
I'm good.
This is one of my favourite Wii U games - not just EShop. I won't spend a fortune just for the disc though - the downloadable version cost me around £10. I'm sure they'll add the DLC.
I'm not at all interested. If they put the DLC on the eshop, I might buy it, because the game was a lot of fun, but there's no way I'm going to buy it again, especially at almost 7 times what I originally paid for it (got it on sale for $6).
The video reminds me a lot of Sonic.
@Jimtaro
what has Nintendo to do with any of this?
If the content isn't released as DLC — free or otherwise — I'm going to be really disappointed. I bought the game when it was first released and I'm not buying the disc version.
Actually, I was pretty disappointed that time they released the update like in the middle of the year and teased the Xmas content with the updated title screen... but nothing happened. No Xmas levels. They reverted it to the original screen eventually.

The price certainly is baffling considering how much cheaper it is on the E-Shop. Maybe if it goes on sale again I will check it out this time.
@Legromancer
The steep pricing for a game that's already been out for a long time and the lack of DLC on the eShop. You don't honestly think that's all down to the developers alone and not Nintendo do you?
Could they just release the Expansion as DLC for those that actually own the base game?
I wonder who's publishing this.
cut-price? $40 for an e-shop game is cut-price??
nice? I hope it come to europe too then i know it was the right decision to wait before i buy it <:
Physical all the way, this is fantastic news, if this comes to the u.k ill buy it even though i already own it
This game shouldn't be $40. It is $15 on the console online shops. I bought the first version for $8, since I had an eShop game that was part of a promo. I would buy DLC to update it for $4-7, but otherwise there's no reason to double dip, especially for a disc that is $25 more than the Director's Cut on the console shops.
Sooo... the physical release is a scam for people who buy discs at the store, or something?
Silly pricing apart, it's a really good platformer right here and hopefully the dlc is just as good(and as ppl are saying, dlc is hopefully being released at a good price-level on the eShop)
Aren't they doing the same thing with Shovel Knight? I already own both, which sucks because I do like physical so much more. Like I really want Darksiders II and it's on sale for $10 in the eShop right now, but I'll probably wait and get a physical copy for twice as much.
Releasing physical games so much later like this is just going to make me hesitate a few years before I buy any new eShop games from either company.
This would be cool if anyone I knew actually bought games from Toys R Us...
This game is HARD! It's mainly for die-hard platformer players. The graphics are amazing, but not 60fps. It's also a switch puzzler like Mighty Switch Force.
Personally I hope this extra content+the halloween content will be added to the e-shop version as a free update! A man can dream!
