Since its initial tease in Japanese theatre showings of the latest Pokémon movie, and subsequent marketing images with a better look, there's been huge interest in the 'green blob' Pokémon. Part of the allure is in the mystery, along with thoughts drifting to whether it'll play a prominent role in the overarching lore and, potentially, feature in future game releases.
After very little information some salvation is on the way. A trailer for a Mega Evolution special in the Pokémon XY anime series - which will apparently close off its own particular story arc - will feature the new 'mon; it seems to have a fairly prominent role in the tale.
We'll likely know more about its backstory soon, then, which is sure to get fans chatting when it happens. What are your current theories on 'the blob'?

My theory is that it is a Zygarde pre evolution of some kind, especially since Zygarde is getting a Mega.
Terrifying thought, but that shot of the multiple Green Blobs and Chespin, are all but one of those dead? The tummy circle (stone?) is dark green instead of pink-red.
it seems to me like a diance type situation again maybe they help give zygarde a new form or something o.O
By now, I'm pretty sure this blob is something like Phione, but connected to Zygarde. Fragments of the nature guardian that got separated and died among the whithering plants, while this last one might still be enough to reawaken Zygarde. But I doubt that it's actually a Pokémon in the literal sense.
That said, it's just as likely to be much more stupid. The animé never had good writing, so I'm not expecting them to start such a thing now.
I'd love it if GameFreak was just trolling and the blob was a random 7th gen Pokemon that won't be in a game for a while yet. However, the speculation about it being related to Zygarde seems most likely at the moment.
I'm not sure if this thing is related to Zygarde. I mean, yes they're both green, snake-like, but that's about it. It's definitely not a pre-evolution, just compare the two side by side. They look very little alike. To me it looks more like a Dunsparce than anything else.
@shibbyduckegg The red spot is on their belly, the green spot on their back.
Honestly I have begun to really despise the emphasis on Mega Evolution. When Diancie came out, there was no focus on the new Pokemon, just its suped-up Mega Evolution. The same goes for Groudon, Kyogre, Rayquaza, and likely Hoopa and Volcanion. I want the focus to be on the new Pokemon first and on Mega Evolution second.
@Haljalikakick64 Groudon and Kyogre don't have megas.. and Hoopa is an entirely new pokemon with a new form like shaymin-sky. Mega Evolution has only been focused on with diancie for the most part, but really there wasn't much to diancie anyway other than being a carbink with a genetic make up.
Speaking of diancie, I think that's what these blobs are.. like carbinks, while zygarde is actually the ruler of all these blobs.. perhaps when a zygarde perishes, one of the blobs that has the genetic make up or some kind of special trait to it (like mega ray's dragon ascent) takes over it's rule and becomes a zygarde.
@MegaBeedrill No. Legendary Pokemon have been, and will always be immortal. They aren't general species like other Pokemon.
Now that we have a closer look that thing is definitely Zygarde in some form. Thinking it and that giant shadowy thing are both Zygarde.
God this thing looks so ugly... And it reminds me of Dunespare.
What on earth is happening in the end of the trailer? It looks like the green blob is evolving. This is interesting.
I think the green blobs are going to be what help Zygarde transform. And maybe the blobs are what kept Zygarde from being able to keep balance in the Kalos Region's Ecosystem?

They're not immortal gods, the only one which is believed to be immortal, is Xerneas.. the other ones, dialga, palkia, arceus, giratina, and celebi were thought to be deities and immortal, but the fact giratina almost literally died, celebi DID die until others time traveled and revived it, and arceus almost died twice, it's hard to believe they're immortal beings..
Even luigi has offspring occasionally in the anime, proving that they die off and get replaced.
@MegaBeedrill Whoa, Luigi's a Pokemon?
@DarthNocturnal The concept isn't identical to Mega Evolution though. Primal Reversion involves a Pokemon reverting back to it's earlier, or original form. Mega Evolution is a Pokemon achieving a bond with a trainer, allowing it to temporarily evolve into a super saiyan-like form.
@IceClimbers xD
Lugia*
Oml that sentence sounds messed up with that luigi typo... I'm leaving it.
Seems like people in the comments have started exempting the word "probably" and "maybe" when discussing how this pokemon is related to Zygarde. Guys, it's not confirmed. Stop talking about it like it is. Also, stop talking about the big shadowy pokemon like it's a Zygarde form/mega.
@JubilifeRival Well what else could it be? It's definitely not the "Original Dragon" Or anything like that.
Offical translation of the ME special 4 plot:
Alain's journey in pursuit of becoming the strongest once again takes him to the Kalos region. Wanting to become even stronger, he bets his Mega Ring and Mega Stone on being able to defeat 10 Mega Evolution users in a row. Alain throws him into battle. Mairin is worried sick about Alain. And Mairin's partner, Hari-san the Chespin, meets a mysterious being. It all leads up to something seriously major... We've finally reached the final act of the story! Don't miss the shocking climax!!
You do realise this is quite clearly Zygarde right?
I mean the white diamond eye just screams it.
I hope I'm not offending anyone else's opinions, but I honestly don't think this creature has anything to do with Zygarde. The similarities end at them both being green and serpentine. It's important to know that Zygarde is considered a Legendary Pokemon, which never evolve, so I seriously doubt that this thing is a pre-evolved form. Nor would I say that it's a form change of any sort. I think it looks too different from Zygarde for it to make sense.
I believe this is a completely new Pokemon. It is very cute and small, but also quite primitive looking. I'm inclined to believe it's very ancient. I think it's to fill a role similar to Legendary Pokemon like Mew, Celebi, Jirachi, Manaphy, and Victini.
@Kychow17 -.-
@JubilifeRival Well it could be but the chances of that are extremely low. There's a much much higher chance that it's a zygarde form/mega.
@JubilifeRival
I think it goes without saying that at least the majority of comments are just theories and personal opinions, not facts. I haven't seen a single person claim anything is official, have you? What I do see are people who are very sure of themselves on this.
As for these things being related to Zygarde, as I said in my last response to you, they too have gemstone-like eyes, as does the giant shadowy Pokemon. The pattern on the "blobs'" back and stomach also resemble them. They also both apparently have a big role in the upcoming special.
These things probably just provide the energy for Zygarde to mega evolve, or whatever it turns out to be. That's probably why the scientist are interested in them, because they're a mysterious energy source to them.
This show needs to die.
@ianolivia If you don't like it why did you even comment?
@the101 There is a possibility it could fill the a slot like Phione. It could be the child of Zygarde for all we know.
My bet is that it's Zygarde. If Xerneas represents the creation of life, and Yveltal the destuction of it, then it would make sense that Zygarde represents the passage from infancy (the mysterious new Pokémon) to old age (Zygarde as we know it).
