Yoshi's Woolly World arrives this week in Europe and Australia, with Good-Feel giving Mario's buddy the yarn treatment. We couldn't help but love it in our review, and we're sure a number of Wii U owners are contemplating whether to splash the cash.
Whether you're picking Woolly's World up or waiting for its October arrival in North America, the video below gives a nice look at some of Yoshi's hits over the generations. The video is a little selective in ignoring a spin-off or two, but is a charming watch.
Does any other character match the cuteness that Yoshi serves up?

Nintendo 64 classic lol.
No mention of Yoshi's Universal Gravitation?
I highly recommend Yoshi's Story on Wii eshop to anyone that hasn't tried it. It's lots of fun with SO many secrets and hidden stuff. It's my favourite Yoshi game as I don't get the whole baby mario thing and he isn't in Story
Yoshi's Story is the BEST!!!
Love Yoshi!!!!!
It are all amazing games
The only real stain on this series is New Island. All the other games shown there are all great fun. Great video. Cannot wait for Friday!
@Yosher Interesting, I conversely hated Yoshi's Island DS but loved New Island.
@JakeOfAllTrades yay...fellow Yoshi's Story lover high 5
The original Yoshi's Island on SNES is one of my favourite games of all time... would you believe I haven't played any of the others from this video?! That'll all change with Woolly World though, can't wait!
Yoshi Story ftw
I'm really surprised they haven't changed the gameplay formula in this series. I was expecting the Wii U release to use a little more innovation. I guess if it ain't broke...
I'm surprised to not see Yoshi, Yoshi's Cookie, Yoshi's Safari, Tetris Attack, and Yoshi's Touch and Go not make this list. Sure they're not platformers, but they all somewhat star Yoshi.
@EarthboundBenjy That and Touch & Go must be considered spin-offs.
DAY ONE.
It's about time for goodness sake! I can't believe it took more than 20 years to finally give to this cute green dinosaur another masterpiece... I mean the three games between the first Yoshi's Island and Yoshi's Woolly World are TERRIBLE (oh man, the DS one to be fair is still a decent game actually, but the other two...... UGH....), especially if I think how wonderful the first one was (althought, I think the GBA version is superior in every aspect).
I love all five core 'Yoshi' games.
Guess I'm just a weird-o.
It's quite depressing that it took this long to make another game that even comes close to the original masterpiece. It's good that they did though. Strangely, they neglect to mention Touch & Go and Universal Gravitation, but I suppose those are spin-offs.
I didn't enjoy Yoshi's new island as much as I hoped. The music in the boss battles had none of the original's fun, and that ending... made me feel like I was tricked into playing a weak remake with an intro tacked on to frame it as a sequel. But the worst blow? Continue points not saving how many stars you had; forcing a 100% to be a perfect run. It would have been better to not include them at all if that was how you felt about needing more than one life to complete a stage.
In fact, that's part of Nintendo's problem in recent games. Perfect runs and completion used to be feats we invented to prove our awesomeness, or a special master mode we unlocked for people who MASTERED the base game, not an expectation in the base game itself.
@EarthboundBenjy Everyone always forgets that game. I remember it. It's Yoshi Topsy Turvy in the 'States. It wasn't terrible but it does qualify as a Yoshi game.
Yoshi's Island is undeniably the best and is one of my all-time favorite games, but Yoshi's Story, Island DS and New Island aren't bad. Woolly World looks fantastic though!
