Playtonic's Yooka-Laylee reached the $1 million marker faster than any other game on Kickstarter, it has been revealed.
The campaign smashed its initial funding goal of £175,000 in less than 40 minutes, and by the end of its first full day had surged past the £1 million ($1,521,770) point. It's also "on course" to be the biggest UK-based gaming Kickstarter.
New stretch goals have since been added. The final stretch goal of £1,500,000 is still up for grabs.

I am backing this game. It looks awesome. I just wish we didn't have to wait so long to play it. I get it though.
Go! Go! Go! Will be following this with great interest, can't see them missing the final stretch goal with so much time left.
Giving them money faster doesn't mean the game will be produced any quicker. 2017 if we are lucky folks... don't hold your breath waiting for the release.
I do think it looks cool, but kickstarter games take FOREVER to be released, even small ones. Small teams cause this.
I am a backer
@XCWarrior Mighty No 9 was funded in mid-late 2013, and is releasing in mid-late 2015. I think that 2 years is a reasonable development cycle, and is probably the amount of time Playtonics will take crafting this game.
That shows how much love there is for good old Rare.
@XCWarrior Yeah, and many of them also face delays that go anywhere between two months and full-on years. It's kinda hard to get excited for the 2016 release Playtonic tries to sell us.
@Kaze_Memaryu I'm not sure. I'm very impressed by what they have achieved in just three months. Give them another year and a half and I'm sure they are able to produce a fantastic game in that amount of time.
Impressive but a bit sad too. Don't get me wrong, it interests me but coming from these people I expected something more than a Banjo Kazooie rip-off with a bit generic look. These people worked on many different and innovative projects and when they are free they develop a rehash of a saga with three (four) games.
Backed it, looking forward to following the development. These guys are some of my heroes, and part of the reason I go in to game making.
Wow, there's a lot of faith in these guys. Better make it AAAA for that kind of money.
Wait, even faster than the Homestuck game?
@SecondServing
Comparing the development times of a 2D side scroller to an open world 3D platformer? Makes sense.
@XCWarrior
Toejam and Earl: Back in the Groove was backed only a couple of months ago and their projected release date is Q4 this year. Probably won't happen, but we'll see.
I'm happy for Playtonics. Rare lives on!
@DarkCoolEdge You sound like you know a thing or two about character design...Please post improvements.
Regardless while I have no doubt Playtonic will capture that old magic they will also bring with them experience - experience they didn't have in the early days of 3D platform games.
Wish i could help back this game, but i can't.
All i can do is promise to buy it on it's release.
