The New Nintendo 3DS arrived on 13th February along with some key releases, providing a fairly substantial update to the original models. An improved 3D screen with head tracking, NFC (amiibo) support and the C-Stick are among its additions, while in Europe there were smaller models and XL variations.

While the new additions performed well commercially at launch, Nintendo of Europe has now announced its first set of bundles to promote the smaller model - indications are that the XL has outperformed its smaller sibling. Three bundles are heading to the region on 26th June, each themed to a particular release; you can see these below.

As for what each bundle contains, the details are as follows:

  • Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate Pack - contains a black system, a download copy of the game, black cover plates, Monster Hunter-themed cover plates and a download code for the Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate Hunter's Seal HOME Menu theme.
  • Pokémon Alpha Sapphire Pack - contains a white system, a download copy of the game, white cover plates, Pikachu-themed cover plates and a download code for the Pokémon: Pikachu Party HOME Menu theme.
  • Xenoblade Chronicles 3D Pack - contains a black system, a physical copy of the game, black cover plates, Xenoblade Chronicles 3D cover plates and a download code for the Xenoblade Chronicles 3D: Mechonis HOME Menu theme.

The New Nintendo 3DS is useful for Nintendo, in the respect that it can create themed bundles without manufacturing special systems; if it chooses it can simply bundle relevant cover plates. It'll be interesting to see, however, whether we see bundles and special editions for the XL model later in the year.

Are any of you in Europe tempted by these bundles? Let us know.
