The New Nintendo 3DS arrived on 13th February along with some key releases, providing a fairly substantial update to the original models. An improved 3D screen with head tracking, NFC (amiibo) support and the C-Stick are among its additions, while in Europe there were smaller models and XL variations.
While the new additions performed well commercially at launch, Nintendo of Europe has now announced its first set of bundles to promote the smaller model - indications are that the XL has outperformed its smaller sibling. Three bundles are heading to the region on 26th June, each themed to a particular release; you can see these below.
As for what each bundle contains, the details are as follows:
- Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate Pack - contains a black system, a download copy of the game, black cover plates, Monster Hunter-themed cover plates and a download code for the Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate Hunter's Seal HOME Menu theme.
- Pokémon Alpha Sapphire Pack - contains a white system, a download copy of the game, white cover plates, Pikachu-themed cover plates and a download code for the Pokémon: Pikachu Party HOME Menu theme.
- Xenoblade Chronicles 3D Pack - contains a black system, a physical copy of the game, black cover plates, Xenoblade Chronicles 3D cover plates and a download code for the Xenoblade Chronicles 3D: Mechonis HOME Menu theme.
The New Nintendo 3DS is useful for Nintendo, in the respect that it can create themed bundles without manufacturing special systems; if it chooses it can simply bundle relevant cover plates. It'll be interesting to see, however, whether we see bundles and special editions for the XL model later in the year.
Are any of you in Europe tempted by these bundles? Let us know.

Looks cool!
What I like about New 3DS is that you can basically get any special/limited edition you want, just by buying a €15 cover plate.
The Xenoblade bundle looks rather lazy, I mean what's so difficult about adding a larger MicroSD to allow the digital copy option to be present.
@Grumblevolcano i think i'd rather the physical copy
not bad idea, making bundles with faceplates. I'd consider the xenoblade one if i didn't already have a majora's mask XL
I'm still waiting for Metroid N3DS XL...
I already have those cover plates and just got a new 3DS so I'm ok.
We need these in NA
@GuyWithTheGames While I do prefer physical copies, having a default 4GB MicroSD which is difficult to replace is unacceptable. A digital copy of Xenoblade forcing a larger default MicroSD (preferrably 16GB or 32GB) would be significantly better.
Nice bundles
Funny how the Alpha Sapphire bundle comes with the Pikachu coverplates, rather than the Kyogre and Groudon cover plates.
@RupeeClock I guess there are more of the Pikachu ones lying around!
Awesome! Finally a Bundle with a physical game copy! I WILL HAVE THAT XENOBLADE BOX!
@ThomasBW84 Makes sense, but they do also have over a month to get stock ready.
@outburst For sure.
Nice boxes but already have one and loads of faceplates along with MH4 and XC.
@Grumblevolcano it's so easy to replace, I just don't get the moans over this. I had a 32gb card in my old 3ds, ordered a micro 32gb card before I got my N3DS, copied everything over to the new card via my computer, took seconds, popped the 32gb card into the N3DS and did the transfer, took about 10mins overall. It's an annoying Ninty way but it's by no means difficult at all.
Edit: You could also just get a 32gb card for €20 max, take the crap 4gb card out and done, if you don't have to do any transfers. But yeah they should include min 32gb card with each system now a days.
Wish they would release those here in NA. I'd buy the Xenoblade one in a heartbeat.
Very weird that there's no OmegaRuby bundle...
Nice games, but it just goes to show 3DS doesnt have any new worthwhile games coming out over the next few months. Im guessing they didnt want to bundle Puzxle and Dragons Z, Gung Ho deals might be starting to get on DeNAs nerves.
Maybe they'll announce new 3DS in NA at E3? They need to announce something new and good, Ive heard enough about Mario Maker, Yoshi and XCX. And while wr havent seen anything of Starfox the game was announced a year ago.
I wish we had the option of a cheaper New 3DS and cover plates.
@icedude545 Maybe they think it's too powerful now that it's immune to Water and outclasses Primal Kyogre...
@Grumblevolcano You have to remove the screws on the back, take the microSD card out, and put the other one in.
That's just so difficult...
@Grumblevolcano
Be glad you even have the option of swapping out memory cards on a New 3DS. As a North American I'd happily swap the cards if they'd bother selling me the damn system.
@Grumblevolcano I think most people would rather have a physical copy.
@Grumblevolcano In your opinion...and in my opinion, replacing a 4GB MicroSD Card with a larger one really isn't all that difficult.
In my opinion I'd prefer it if all games were physical instead of digital it would add a nice case to my collection of games! And what I want is for them to restock the xenoblade cover plates because no where sells them!
Europe always gets the cool stuff now while us NA's get crapped on lately -_-
I was planning on getting a new 3DS and Xenoblade soon anyway,no better time I guess.
I have no regrets in buying my Black XL, but if they had these deals in NA, and I didn't already own a "New" 3DS, I would have probably bought one of these bundles. I ended up picking up MH4U as well, so I would have most likely went with that bungle, but I could have seen myself getting the Xenoblade. I like Pokemon games but I'm not into them enough to appreciate the crazy Pikachu plates....not for me.
Alpha Sapphire better than Omega Ruby confirmed!
that new 3ds xenoblade sure looks cool
aw well, already have a 3ds but i still do like these, sad that NA didnt got the bundle version of these lucky europe and PAL regions gets the cool bundles
@rjejr Nintendo has something up it's sleeves for E3....I would bet money on it. I posted yesterday, pure speculation, about a "Mario Player" for the 3DS that would allow 3DS owners to only play fan made levels. Besides that off the wall guess, I'm going to speculate that there's a unannounced game/games coming out this fall/holiday season for the 3DS in addition to the Fire Emblem game.
@The__Goomba Those plates look awesome too! I hope you're able to get your hands on one of those bundles.
I'm in NA, where we don't have normal New 3DS (though I'd still probably have bought the XL anyways) so here's what I did to transform my black new 3DS XL into a LE (my actual MH4U edition is on display)

$8 stickers
Any idea of the price? Plenty of info on the bundle except the most important bit, the RRP!
@JaxonH nice bit of kit that
How easy are those sticker kits to apply and how do you avoid creases?
@andyg1971
Thanks, for $8 I'd say it's pretty slick!
EDIT: easy, but I tinkered with it to get all the tiny bubbles out so it took me like 15 min. But I've noticed the sticker relaxes after a few days and any micro bubbles you didn't get out just go away on their own.
Much improved material than the stuff they used to use. I got this off eBay- if you need a link to the seller just let me know and I can dig it up when I get home
I'd get that Xenoblade bundle if it were available in Canada.
I can't wait to get that Xenoblade bundle! Well, that's what I'd say if North America had the standard New 3DS...
@Mus1cLov3r
I think the "difficult" part is having to spend a dollar to buy said screwdriver or buy a super cheap screwdriver set...
Meanwhile, back in NA, we get...oh wait, nothing.
Guess I'll look for something for my 2DS...
They aren't bringing these to NA to that we can have more choices as consumers. Or something. Right Reggie?
I wish these would come to the US. I would love to have the Xenoblade 3ds and honestly I like the fact it's not a digital copy. It's a really big game and once it's finished it's just taking up space on your memory card.
If the XL models had the interchangeable face plates, that would have solved a lot of problems, except for the ones who prefer the smaller size - which many people do indeed like. I like the big screen, so the only draw to the standard are the faceplates, although that is indeed a big draw.
I mean, we have to unscrew the back to get to the memory card anyway. Why not have offered the exchangeable faceplates on it?
@rjejr: Once again, you nailed it. Nintendo rides the coat tails of their games for to long. I'm tired of just hearing about XBX, how about a release date already? As for Splatoon, well the hype just seems to be artificially fueld due to he drought of other games. I'm actually thinking about getting Legend of Kay in May instead of Splatoon. I don't follow the 3DS that much but seems to late to announce these bundles and from what I hear they don't have much announced for the future.
@dkxcalibur I hope so too,I'm also really feeling the plates (sorry I had to😊)
I must admit it is quite surprising to see a physical game bundle in 2015. I guess it's easier to make sure all N3DS models come with the same card then set aside X amount to have 8 GB cards inside. I wonder if the game cart will come in an envelope or the proper game case like if you bought it off the shelf at a store.
@The__Goomba No problem! I'm really enjoying my "New" 3DS XL so no regrets....just a tiny bit jealous that those plates are super cool.
I NEED THAT XENOBLADE 3DS.
I WILL HURT SOMEONE FOR THAT XENOBLADE 3DS.
@DEAD Luckily, we can post what we want here. We all have opinions and have rights to voice them. If you are trying to say that we're lucky to not have it because we'd be overwhelmed with choices in cover plates, that's the most ridiculous argument I've heard yet.
@ikki5 @Trash-Boat
@BinaryFragger The XL size is a bit big to carry around. It took me a little getting used to. haha
@Ryno - Seriously considering Legend of Kay, not sure how I missed it as I bought everything else on PS2 that looked like that - Tak and the Power of Juju, Mark of Kri and the big 3 platformers. Probably worth it for $25, but then again it could be $10 discount bin by Christmas. I'll see how I feel after tomorrow's Splatoon ND (which I've been thinking for the past week wasn't until Friday so I get it a day early now) and what's announced at E3.
Got a N3DS XL about 2 weeks ago and I'm happy with the metallic blue colour except for the fact that it's a fingerprint magnet!
Got Omega Ruby anyway and I didn't want the regular size model so these bundles would not have interested me anyway.
They look like really nice bundles though, too bad there's no price listed.
Xenoblade one looks gorgeous. Jelly.
Mean while in NA they said they can't bring in these N3DSes because it'll confuse us. I really take that as an insult of my intelligence.
@AVahne Oh my, we have such horrible lives, having to buy a dollar screwdriver and all. xD
@Grumblevolcano i respect that opinion, but i wonder if the systems are manufactured with the 4GB cards?
@hydeks i think it's random which region gets what these days. kirby is only out here in europe this week, 3 months after NA.
WHUP, I'M GETTING THE XENOBLADE CHRONICLES NEW 3DS.
As a Nintendo collector, I've started going after every New 3DS (standard size) bundle since the Christmas eShop sale.
The Pokemon Alpha Sapphire one here wasn't even in the sale, and the Xenoblade one sold out quickly, so I missed it.
Can't find them anywhere now!
I was lucky enough to get the Monster Hunter one, though.
