amiibo Tap Gets A New Title In Europe, Available For Free At The End Of The Month

I don't know if I like this concept... what if my Amiibo gives me a game I truly hate? They should make it so the game the Amiibo gives you changes like every week or something because seriously... a few minutes on one game.. you'll tap that amiibo one to three times and you're done with the app forever.

Do they really think we're so dumb in Europe that we need this ridiculous title?

I have 12 amiibos, so this app will be fun

@RoomB31 yes I understand that but why make something that will be rarely used? Kind of a waste of resources if you ask me.

This will be a nice app for all the Amiibo scalpers out there, but for most of us it will be little more than a novelty.

Each amiibo gives random games, so even if you only have one amiibo you get to try many games.

And what resources are being wasted? This is as much work as the Smash Bros demos of old games. Just cut and paste some old ROMS.

@ikki5 exactly what @Vallu said, It's a marketing tool, a somewhat clever one, as long as the demos grow with the VC (bring N64 games into the mix).
It's not the definitive app that most people want like AmiiboWorld (I'll pitch this until they can't say no!) which would add not only characters/weapons/items/but amiibo would also open up new levels, so the more amiibo you have the more developed amiiboWorld will be.

That's not a new title, is has this title since it was first introduced for Europe.

@sinalefa Are you sure about that? I think once you register a certain amiibo it'll give you a random game, but this amiibo will then always give you the same game.

Have to say, US title is WAY better. And that's not rah rah nationalism talking, that's just common sense. Though I have to admit the EU title seems a more accurate description, but I still like the US title better.

@gingerbeardman NoE is strange like that. Until its eventual cancellation, Concentration Training had an absurdly long mouthful of a title over here, for example. I have no idea why it happens, but if I had to hazard a guess, they typically use titles that are closer to the original Japanese title, in cases where there's a regional difference between US and EU titles.

God help me if UK gets something Na doesn't get for months......, Why is it so hard for nintendo to release a game the same date In UK and NA. It is just insulting to their NA audience and when we get stuff early it's insulting to UK consumers...... Classic Nintendo.......@

I currently have all Amiibo except for Meta Knight, Shulk, King Dedede and Little Mac. So this should be interesting!

I have all the games already so I dont see why I would use this app. Besides, there are way too many games out there I actually want to play. Time is more precious than money, folks.

@sinalefa so one Amiibo will give many? I thought it was a single title was given to an amiibo randomly and that was the only title for that one Amiibo. The thing about Thomas's article is that he doesn't say it will always be different...

@mrGREEK360 A lot of it is localizing issues. It is a lot harder to get a game localized in Europe than it is in NA. Also, you guys get stuff that NA doesn't or before quite often especially with the E-shop.

Someone here once suggested an Amiibo stamp gallery for Miiverse. I think that would be a great idea, simple and effective. Unfortunately Nintendo seem to have forgotten all about improving miiverse...

@Darknyht Amiibo scalpers wouldn't be using the amiibos most likely. That's what makes them scalpers; the act of mass buying and reselling them for profit. Collecting amiibos does not equal scalping, and no scalper is just going to horde all of the same amiibo for some small demos. The term you're looking for is "amiibo collectors", they're the only ones that will get best use of this.

I'm excited for this title. I actually collect amiibo (have all but around 9 of the Smash collection, half rares and half commons I've been waiting for sales on) so it's a neat little free extra. Not hard to make, and just a small thing to add on to amiibo functionality in all the other titles that matter more. Nothing to complain about.

Tested this on my Japanese Wii U, but I unfortunately got games that I already own aside from Donkey Kong Jr. Hoping it is different if I use it on the NA version.

Thanks. In any case you will let us know a week from now when you try it. I am curious because the idea is that you try many games, so I don't expect to use one amiibo per game.

TAP = Touch And Play. I like it. This'll be fun, I guess, but there's little here if you already own the VC titles they're trying to push on you, unless they have some kind of score/leaderboard to keep you trying to improve your play of each segment.

If the demos are similar to what's found in Smash....count me out.

@ChuJelly I am afraid the irony of my comment went right over your head. About the only ones that will truly benefit from this app are the scalpers who will see a small increase in demand for amiibo as it will add to the 'got to get them all' fever (much like the additional DLC suits in MK8 have). Most of us aren't paying hundreds of dollars to collect them all and at most have one or two making this app mostly useless.

Honestly, it makes more sense for me to unlock the stupid trials in Super Smash Bros if I am interested and then purchase the game if I like it. That way I save $8-3 dollars for the game.

This has been the European title ever since it was announced. I agree with a few people here, Nintendo Europe has a weird naming scheme.

Is it possible to get a game you already bought?

@Alundra-1998 Congratulations, you are not part of the "most" I mentioned. As your reward, all you will be getting for your extra spent money is more vignettes of games (time limited demos) that you could buy in full for a fraction of the cost of the amiibo that unlocked the vignette.

The rest of us will download this, tap our one or two amiibo, and rage over the fact that all we got were vignettes of games we already owned.

I still fail to see why everyone is so excited about being able to unlock what are essentially interactive advertisements for old Nintendo games.

I'm the same as @Alundra-1988 and have a full set of amiibo that have been released...just one of each for me, and I'm also not a scalper.

I hate to say it, but some people are just sounding really bitter about not being able to get amiibo they want and letting it cloud their opinion of this app. It's just a bit of harmless Virtual Console advertising/marketing fun, nothing more. If you've got no use for it then just don't download it.

@ToxieDogg @Alundra-1988 The irritation I have is that this download has little to no benefit for anyone who has owned a Wii U. It is basically an advertisement for the few people that have recently purchased a Wii U (and Amiibo). If you are a kid and cannot go out and buy games as you wish, then this has appeal if you happen to have an amiibo or two.

There is extremely limited benefit to someone to the consumer that most likely has multiple amiibo. If they can afford to spend over $700 on collecting every amiibo (using face value), then they most likely have spent cash on Virtual Console games over the years (or received them via Club Nintendo rewards). So there is very little value there.

My issue about this is that they are releasing this as if it is an awesomely huge gift to amiibo owners and presenting it as just another benefit of Amiibo purchasing. However, there is no value here unless you are in a very small minority of people that are completely new to Nintendo and their products. This is just another step in Nintendo adopting the worse of the DLC world. Although they have taken it another step by attaching it to a physical good that is rare instead of a digital one that is unlimited.

Why do I need a waste of space app to access a playable demo for a game? Granted it slightly better than forcing me to drive to Best Buy or Gamestop and having salespeople bother me. If you are going to offer demos to drum up interest in old product though, why tie it to a limited physical good?

It seems like a nice novelty and a bit of advertising but in general the people who have amiibo are the same people who'll have most of the virtual console already and probably have since the wii days.

@McoobabWATP Or even the originals on cartridge. The only way for Nintendo to really make good use of Amiibo's is Amiibo game. Even Lego is now getting one, so Nintendo has to catch up.

Eh, it's a clever idea but it's basically a clever advert for the VC so I'm not hugely excited. I've got a few amiibo though so I'll probably give it a try out of curiosity to see what games I get. I wonder if it knows to not give you a game you unlocked with a previous amiibo? Don't really want 10 demos for Super Metroid, however good that game is!

Still it's nice that amiibo are gaining more use, even if most of us are buying them as collectables more than anything! I feel like this is the sort of thing that should come pre-installed on new machines as an ad for both the VC and amiibo.

Would be great if they could work some fun amiibo stuff into Wara Wara Plaza. That long lost it's novelty and feels really under utilised. Would love it to be more customisable with amiibo unlocks and the ability to visit friend plazas and such. Make a little game from the main menu

I'm liking the fact they add Mach Rider to this. Of all the games I want to try, it's Kirby's Dream Course, Mach Rider and The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.

What's with the funky metroids in the video? Is the emulation missing a layer?

It would be better if the app took a look at your current VC downloads then thinks of a good recommendation based on what you've already downloaded and gives you a demo for a game you might enjoy.
I have 7 amiibos so this app will be worth a try for me at least.
