Super Smash Bros. on both Wii U and 3DS were two of the biggest hits in 2014, representing the first portable and HD arrivals in the franchise. They're still serving up new contents and updates, with recent additions including additional 8-player Smash stages on Wii U and data sharing + amiibo support on 3DS.
Despite being loaded with content there are always features missing, which is one of the topics in the latest video on the series from the popular Did You Know Gaming. It also tackles some details around roster inclusions and fun little references, and though Smash fans may know a lot of this trivia there are sure to be a few small surprises for most.
Check it out below and let us know what you think.

Glad to see they got the announcer to do it. I freaking love that guy's voice.
@NintendoFan64 He's such a great guy, he also appeared in at least 2 other videos, one I don't remember, but the other was with The Completionist, in his Smash Bros video...
watches it just because of Xander, lol
Xander Mobus and DYKG make a great combo.
Very interesting. DYKG is always a treat to watch!
Sometimes I wish there wasn't a 3DS version...
@mariovslink62 why?
No Johns..
LOL
@jamesplusgames Mainly because it limited the roster, killed off the Ice Climbers, and removed the ability to transform.
All this stuff except the last one about NOJOHNS have been individually reported right here at Nintendolife. To us it's more like a summary of what we've heard through the months.
They could have Ice Climbers be a New 3DS exclusive...o.o
@mariovslink62 I can undertstand but the way I see it no transformations makes things easier and I doubt we would have any more characters even without a 3ds version and as for the ice climbers its a matter of opinion.
I guess I'm the only person who finds Xander's voice somewhat annoying... the reason why I couldn't watch the 50 fact Smash Bros Direct. Not that his personality is bad or anything.... o.O
OT: DYKG always have interesting facts, really enjoy watching them
@jamesplusgames
it is basically the demo version of the Wii U version and technically restricted the Wii U version to keep them close to each other.
@Sergio151 Then he would need a new Up Special, while his Down Special would be limited to only covering one side.
Finally. I was kinda worried when I saw they hadn't released any video since almost a month ago. Good thing it was a Smash one, and with Xander Mobus' voice
@mariovslink62 Agreed.
The lack of Ice Climbers was the harshest removal of the series for me, and the removal of transformations feels odd to me. Having the likes of Zelda and Sheik, or Samus and Zero Suit Samus as separate is both bizarre and I feel removes a unique aspect of these fighters, and Charizard as a standalone fighter when we already have 2 (soon to be 3) Gen 1 Pokémon in the roster feels iffy.
wow interesting DYKG this time around they went even further even as to telling us about that john guy xD
i still wish they would of kept the pokemon trainer but with a 2nd gen pkm or something....part of me is still hoping that some of the characters that were cut would come back as dlc or something least ice climbers have some data on the game almost done so wouldnt be that hard to add them on the wii u version at least
I don't get why they removed Lucas.
Awesome to see that a Smash Bros voice actor - let alone the fourth announcer himself - is so in touch with fan projects (if we can call The Completionist and Did You Know Gaming just that, anyway) and the like, despite the man himself clearly stating in a video on his Youtube channel he couldn't just shout "Ridley!" in his announcer voice (still, that was due to the 50-fact Direct not having been shown yet).
A far cry from Shulk's VA (Adam Howden if I recall correctly) tweeting he was gonna voice a character but not telling who because he feared "his gonads would be cut off for telling" (paraphrasing).
I want to go in Reggie's room, and just stare at his stuff.
The 3DS version is honestly my favorite. I feel like I have more control, even compared to the GC adapter. Call me crazy but... It just feels more natural to me.
IDK, I'm also not a "competitive" player.
awwww rip poor ice climbers , evil 3ds you ! ;_;
