Data mining and hacking can reveal many interesting things about games; viewing unused assets, textures, models, or whatever else may be found can give insight into the process and development of any game. For example, models were recently revealed in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U of the viruses from Dr. Mario; more information suggests that there was, at one point, a Dr. Mario themed stage in process. Now, hackers have found more to intrigue fans of the fighting game.
It was mooted in one of Masahiro Sakurai's many articles prior to release that there were plans for sixteen custom moves for each character, as opposed to the twelve that made it into the final release. Those digging around in code have found some of these in the game; most were never given hitboxes or attack animations, so what they would've been will most likely forever remain a mystery. From the movement animations, however, it seems like these moves would've been a bit more than just variants of the base attack; an example is that Mario's fireball move may have been an iceball. Whatever the reasons that they missed the cut - such as limited development resources or design decisions based on balancing move-sets - videos of the incomplete moves can be seen below.
It is a bit of a shame these never made the final cut, but Sakurai-san likely had good reasons for leaving them out. What do you think of this footage? Would you have liked more moves to customize a fighter?
Thanks to Jake B. for the tip!

PSST RYTHM HEAVEN CHARACTER! http://mynintendonews.com/2015/01/26/super-smash-bros-was-possibly-going-to-get-a-rhythm-heaven-character-and-dr-mario-stage/
It's possible to see evidence of this normally in the game. A couple of months ago, after winning a Jackpot in Spectate, my prize was Standard 4 for Zero Suit Samus. Couldn't access it but still...
@DreamyViridi woah
This was already found out like a few weeks ago.
Dat Peach recovery tho.
I'm still a little ticked by the fact that Samus's Standard Alt's weren't Wave Beam and Ice Beam. Would have been good and make sense.
Cool
Honestly if these later became cheap dlc I would buy it. I know Sakurai has no plans after Mewtwo but I hope that Nintendo keeps updating smash wiiu and 3ds every now and then with or without Sakurai. As long as it is cheap and does not break the game (as in unfair characters). Do what you did in Mario Kart 8 and release 2 packs with a few characters and stages in each one. I got a full game so I wouldn't mind buying more stuff for it.

Yes

@dadajo Me too, my buddy and I even mused that since this is (likely) Sakurai's final entry into the series, it could adopt the Team Fortess 2 model of constant free updates to keep it current and interesting.
Of course PC gaming over a long term and Console gaming over long term are totally different ideas, but I'll always support Sm4sh content since I have never had as much fun with the series before, and I've already spent more hours on Sm4sh than Mario kart 8, which is huge because I'm the Mario Kart pro of my group.
