While Japan’s onslaught of cover plate announcements for the New 3DS continue, the rest of the world is left pondering if a considerable amount of them will ever see the light of day outside of the region.
Adding a ray of hope to the situation, Nintendo of Australia has today announced via Twitter & Facebook that five additional cover plates will be available for the local launch of the New 3DS on the 21st of November, taking the total amount of covers available on day one to 20. Each plate will cost AU$17.95, with designs varying from store to store.
If you live in Australia, let us know if you’ve got your eye on any of these newly announced plates.

I don't usually like to gloat but being in Australia, this is pretty sweet. World - suffer in your jocks! That is a slang term that originated from colonial times when you Brits sent us here to live in squalor as convicts.
Nintendo Australia really should have made the RRP for the New 3DS $199.95 (with the XL retaining its usual $249.95 price tag). A regular sized New 3DS with a cover plate will cost almost as much as a New 3DS XL. o.O
Just wait for someone in China to make ripoff plates that will only cost $5.
Whoa! That's one pretty expensive piece of plastic!
@Nintendian 4,99$.
I love the Mario/Luigi moustache plates, but I'm still set on getting the NXL.
Bring this to the us and bring the camo plate with it
JEALOUS
Considering the LL outsold the new 3DS 3 to 1 in collection crazy Japan I expect a lot of these plates will go unsold. Or sold but returned by people trying to them attach to their old 3DS.
The more I see these the less impressed I am. How often do you or snybody else look at the bottom of your 3DS? I think $1 decals for the top - which could then be used on both old and new 3DS and the XL - would be better than $18 plates. Probably the chinese knockoffs will just be sticker versions of these.
I love the see through ones, like the 2DS that will release with Pokemon.
An interesting idea, I suppose, but I've been much happier going with DecalGirl options. I have them on my handhelds and consoles, and the variety is much larger. And, best of all, no screwdrivers needed. A gimmick—an interesting one—but ultimately a gimmick.
I'LL BE GETTING THE CAMO ONES <3
Holy moley! I didn't realise that the wooden plate was $40! Rip-off, much? =/
Nice!
Oh wow, Australia got a nice box for the white model. Hopefully they don't crappify the box design when this comes to Emurica.
LOVE those mustache plates! Hope they come to NA
Say, isn't Australia the same region as Europe? Aka, I cam import a new 3DS from there and still use my UK games and NNID, right?
Really considering importing one as I live in UK. Does anybody know any reliable import sites? Cheers in advance.
I hope they release a New Leaf design like the 3DS XL model.
@Beta Yes you can.
$18 for a thin piece of plastic with art on it? Screw that till the end of time. I'm sticking with the new xl if i ever do dive into the new systems
Why can't the New 3ds XL have this??? Seriously
