Game & Wario is the next first-party retail title scheduled for Wii U, and hits North America at a discounted price of $39.99 on 23rd June. While we don't know about pricing yet, we do now know that the European release is just slightly later than across the Atlantic, hitting stores on 28th June.
Nintendo UK's press release confirming that date also provides a useful outline of the content on offer, split into 12 single player games and four that are multiplayer only. Below are some of the key details, including what promises to be a fun twist on Miiverse posts:
In Single Player, there are twelve games to enjoy that turn your GamePad into a variety of different objects for different gameplay challenges: use it as a camera, a bow that looses arrows into the TV image, or as a method to steer a skier to the disco, amongst others!
In CAMERA, you’re tasked with snapping photos of escaped criminals with your GamePad! The TV shows a busy street in Diamond City and holding up the GamePad allows you to take a closer look at the scene. Frame those crooks perfectly in your photos to catch them, and earn a high score!
In GAMER, take on the role of 9-Volt, a kid who’s been sent to bed with his favourite handheld gaming system, but is desperate to get a high score… However his mum is prowling around trying to catch him in the act of staying up past his bedtime! While playing microgames on the GamePad, you’ll need to keep an eye on the TV screen which shows 9-Volt’s bedroom, because you’ll have to pretend to be fast asleep whenever his mum pounces! Try to hide-and-play for as long as possible for a high score - just don’t get caught or it’s game over!
You can also try your luck with Chick-N-Win, the chicken-shaped contraption that lays surprise-filled capsules, and get one of over 200 weird and wonderful toys to play with; each one showcasing something fun or eccentric you can do with your GamePad.
Game & Wario also unveils a new twist on playing with others on Wii U: using only the GamePad you can share the fun with friends or family in four different games in the Multiplayer Mode!
In DISCO, you’ll be battling against a friend toe-to-toe in a dance-off, where the players are setting the pace and moves on the GamePad for points. Each player holds one end of the GamePad and tries to outwit his opponent with fancy fingerwork, rhythmically tapping the touch screen in three places to place moves his opponent needs to replicate... Each misstep earns the player’s opponent points – you’ll need the highest score to win – so make sure you can keep in rhythm!
In FRUIT, up to five players play together in different roles: one player becomes a dastardly fruit thief, using the GamePad to work in secret as the others play agents and watch the TV screen, using their powers of observation to find the thief in a crowd and spot when the fruits disappear. The agents have their work cut out for them with bustling streets, passing traffic and smoky chimneys obscuring the view.
At the end of the game, each of the agents pass around the GamePad to point out who they think is the thief; but only the most eagle-eyed may win as the line-up of would-be fruit thieves look rather similar!
In ARTWORK, up to five players compete in a sketching showdown to see who can draw and guess drawings the fastest for a high score. Each player takes turns to sketch prompted words as fast as possible on the GamePad, with the other players guessing what the word might be. It’s a frantic test of communication with friends and family as points are earned both for correct guesses and for drawing fast, as one man’s squiggle is another man’s solution!
This game type is also integrated into Miiverse as Miiverse ARTWORK, where you can select one of four prompts to draw in 60 seconds, after which your mini masterpiece, or hilarious doodle, is posted to Miiverse to be appreciated by all! You can even submit your own words to be prompts for others to draw, which may even trend in the Gallery section of Miiverse Artwork as popular words other players are enjoying sketching!

Why? Why is it still 2 months away? Why is Nintendo too incompetent to get any games of their own out faster than this? What the hell is wrong with them?
Looks fun!
Sounds good,but I won't be paying full price for it.
It begins.
That... actually sounds really fun! Unexpected!
This sounds a lot more fun that I was expecting. If the reviews are good, I'll definitely get it.
@LunaticPandora
I do not believe it is because they are incompetent but I believe it is more of a strategy. The game was originally supposed to come out in March (and it did so in Japan) but March already had key releases for Wii U. Nintendo told its investors that they will start rolling out titles on a regular basis starting in the summer, which is why I believe the title's release was moved to June (plus May has the HD rerelease of Resident Evil in it so they did not want a first-party title to kill those sales).
So it gets it on the Japanese day of the month on the American month.
@LunaticPandora When I see people raging at companies about release the game faster are the same people who complain when the game is release and complains the game needed another 6 months.
I dunno, I can't imagine this game to be that great, like a 6 out of 10 or something.
@SilentHunter382 It doesn't need another 6 months as it came out in japan barely a month ago, so there's no excuse really other than another misguided attempt to let 3rd parties "shine," which they failed to do at 3DS' launch, and are failing even more spectacularly here. So there really is no excuse for it not to be out right now.
It at least sounds better than Nintendoland. I don't think I'll be getting it though.
We're getting this day 1
I'm glad it's just $40
@sonicfan1373 You believe a game like this is capable of damaging the sales of others?
@LunaticPandora You do know that translation is a reason that Majority of these games take longer to be release. You can say the same thing about Fire Emblem with the US release and the Pal release.
@SilentHunter382 This is a bunch of mini-games, nothing text heavy. It was obliviously delayed on purpose.
@Doma Doesn't matter if its text heavy or not it still needs to be translated. There can be other legal reason behind the delay that we may not know about.
@SilentHunter382 Yes it does matter, there have been plenty of simultaneous releases in the past which disprove your translation theory.
@LunaticPandora Which I am not disagree. The Translation can be one reason for the delay. Like I said in my previous post it could be a legal reason. Yes there are simultaneous release in the past but they also can cause the delay for the Japan release.
I played Game & Wario at a convention. It's an okay game but it's not woth 60 bucks
It's gonna be $40...
at last. now wonderful 101 date. probably won't be buying this, at least not at full price (even if it's a 'budget' title). £15 seems about fair.
@Doma
I believe it can do some damage as it is a first-party title that is coming in at a lower price point.
just hoping we get a price reduction here in the UK like the USA have gotten. Never in a 1000 years would i pay £40-50 for this :- sorry
@JogurtTheYogurt Well here's an idea - don't.
Based on some of the comments I am seeing here (and almost everywhere else) people like some of the mini games but they could care less about the others and hence cannot justify paying full price (even if it is reduced). I think Nintendo should release a Game & Wario collection on the eShop where each of the mini games is available as an individual download and a full version which contains all of the games. Personally I like the entire package and I can justify paying $40 for it but I see that others do not and so individual mini games each at a lower price would be a better fit for them.
I think Nintendoland and Wario Game & Watch should have been freebies. Even though I enjoy my Wii U immensely, I do think the price was a bit high. I guess that's what happens when you buy a game system at launch...

@LunaticPandora Here's an idea: why don't you work for Nintendo and THEN tell us that there's no reason to release this earlier.
I primarily play games in single player mode, however, I still got a lot of enjoyment out of Nintendo Land as it had plenty of depth to each of the mini-games, and then occassional multi-player play was a nice bonus.
i will wait for reviews to see if single-player mode is any good.
@sonicfan1373 [post #29] I think that's a good idea, there are already games on E-shop being sold in a similar way e.g. d/l version of Tank! Tank! Tank!, Zen Pinball. i certianly would not pay full-price for G&W as a few of the modes sound like they would not appeal to me - Some of the drawings on Miiverse are amazing, so i bet some people will love the Artwork modes, even if it has no appeal to me.
