North America has been receiving Club Nintendo coins when purchasing titles from both the Wii U and 3DS eShop for quite some time now.
It's a nice little bonus for those who download games but Europe hasn't been receiving the same treatment - until now that is. Yes, European gamers can now earn stars when buying games from both eShops. Once you've racked up a few stars they can be exchanged for all sorts of goodies on the Club Nintendo website.
This will certainly be welcome news for European Nintendo gamers as their downloading habits will finally be rewarded.
What are your thoughts on this, Europe? Have you got your eye on anything nice in the stars catalogue? Let us know in the comments section below.

Great news, hopefully this is retroactively done for those of us who have brought a fair bunch on the eShop as well, as I have a number of downloadable purchases without a survey ever done for them
Finally! I noticed a survey for Nano Assault Neo & Retro City Rampage which I filled out & got 50 stars each for.
Now if only Nintendo would fix it so I can register first party games from Europe on the Club Nintendo Australia website, like I can for third party games from Europe (currently I just get a "this code has expired." error :S).
Only 22 months after the eShop launched!
about time. They did it for the wii eshop purchases, so I don't know what took them so long
@RebeccaGunn
Good call, just bought loads the other day. Would hate to miss out..
Now if only they offer download codes for stars like the NA one does…
@ULTRA-64 check your club nintendo account.. click "see all my registered games & systems" and there are links to claim stars for your downloads!
This doesn't make a difference to us in the uk, right?!
@paul6891 it does
Meanwhile in Brazil...
That's great but what about the ~50 titles I've already downloaded? I assume we cant get anything for those..
Sadly the EU Club Nintendo Shop is like a barren wasteland. I'm sitting on 8000+ stars and there's like nothing worthwhile to get. Well, there's like the Mario Galaxy soundtracks, but that's old. Everything on there is old. It's still selling protection sleeves for the loving DS and Wii controllers. DS mind you, not DSi or 3DS.
When I bought my 3ds 2 years ago I asked Nintendo why we received points for dsiware but not if you used a 3ds. They said they would be introducing it 'shortly'. It took a while but cat least we can now get stars for all those games we have bought. Well done NoE
Does this mean that Europeans only used to get stars when they bought a physical copy of a game? Well, I'm glad they fixed that.
@Five-seveN That and for DSiWare and WiiWare. Now we have eShop but still no Virtual Console.
Finally!
In the last couple of days I filled out about 40 of those pointless surveys for my past downloads
@Geonjaha No, you get stars for all of your past downloads
Best news I've heard today! I'm saving up stars, but I haven't decided what to do with them yet (maybe Mushroom Kingdom figures stand, 7000 stars!).
But my Problem is: You can exchange your stars only in points for the Wii and Dsi online shopn and NOT for the 3DS/ Wii U eShop. Why? Why Nintendo?
I echo MilesVor's and Dunban's frustrations
Being unable to redeem stars for accessories for new hardware or e-shop credit, kinda makes collecting the things pointless. No pun intended.
I just noticed this earlier today- while checking this out my Club Nintendo account (you can get stars for past purchases).
However I noticed in the Stars Catalogue that there is an option for selecting/ ticking to search for "Online Items" next to "Physical Items", "Nintendo Points" and "Mobile Items". There isn't anything in the "Mobile" or "Online" category though.
Maybe they are going to introduce new items soon... I don't want to get my hopes up for download codes!!!
I wasted 9000 stars on rubbish over the years and have about 6500 just now. Had my eye on the SNES controller for a while bu t not sure I'd ever use it with the Wii U.
@manu0 the surveys arent entirely pointless.. as we ae answering nintendo's questions and giving them feedback about what we like about the software/game so they can improve thier products and see what they should do in the future
I've done this myself. It does include past purchases but not ambassador games. It's strange filling in a survey for downloads i lost when my blue 3ds died. Now all they need to do is to have one account which ties everything and not console lock downloaded games, i'll be even happier.
I have a feeling that they will be updated the stuff available soon
@123akis Have you actually taken one of those surveys for eShop games? They are different from the ones for retail games and consist entirely of pointless questions...
this would be good news if there was something decent to get with coins
Mushroom kingdom figure is a good one to get, plus it comes in a neat coin block box.
Game & watch ball is a boring game but great as a collectors item. The new notebooks arent bad- just received one of two i've ordered.
I bought a connector to use SNES controller with my Wii but found I didn't then use it.
Now we just need to be able to spend them on games.
Just been filling out the surveys and come across a few bugs. I clicked to survey "freakyforms" and it sent me to survey "Trine 2". Again, I go to survey "Xevious" and it sent me to "Google map street thingy" instead. I wouldn't mind but I don't even have a WiiU.
FINALLY!! I got a good amount of downloads.
@Dunban
Agreed. Until I can convert my stars to eShop credit, like I could (and still can, for what it's worth) to Wii points, this is worthless.
No wonder I had so many survey opportunities! I managed to get some Super Mario shoelaces and a Yoshi cleaning cloth.. awesome!
Europe gets stars instead of coins? That's pretty cool. Sucks you guys have been getting shafted this whole time though. They should just merge the whole system so we all get the same games and stuff. I just got Super Mario 64 but from what I hear chances are you guys probably got something else (just assuming from what I've read in the past). Come on Nintendo, you're known for not just being family friendly but consumer friendly, every territory should be treated equally. I'm not even from Australia but it still annoys me to hear the way video games are handled there. All the major companies need to sit down and work out a cost effective plan for their ridiculous ratings system. Higher price for rating, higher costs for games, leads to only hardcore games buying very few games. Get gamers equal treatment worldwide somehow and I'm sure markets will be better everywhere
I told NL about this two days ago!
soo, NA earn coins, Europe earns stars?
@hydeks
yup,but we don't have anywhere near as good a scheme as in the US - we never get the option of buying games with stars like you do with coins (unless you count being able to only buy a points card that works with wii & dsi rather than with WiiU and 3DS!)
I've filled in about 20 surveys... I'm still considering getting the SNES controller. But I'm not sure if it'll work with Wii U Virtual Console. Does anyone know?
this is great news! Has anyone got survey options back for games they bought on their DSi, then transferred? They disappeared ages ago, guess Nintendo aren't bringing them back, only if bought via eShop? shame though
@fudgewhizzle
As it plugs into a wii controller I would have though so - however if noone replies with a definate 'yes', drop an email to Nintendo via the website - they are good at replying quickly.
@WiiLovePeace: Are you sure that you got a survey for Retro City Rampage?
congrats europeans
about time. prices here are 20% higher and we don't get a free premium gift every year
UPDATE: it is retro-active! I've got surveys to fill in for all my Wii U downloads, even for Google StreetView.
It's going to be a loooooong night...
37 x 50 stars! Woohoo! Though I got lots of form filling to do to get them...worth it!
9500 stars and NOTHING to buy with them.
I filled useless surveys and answered randomly, just to know what my star balance is.
Just hope NoE will wake up and do something for us, I know it's something completely optional, and a plus, but if you're gonna give us stars, at least give us something worth to spend them on.
This is just something that I have been mulling over for a while:
Why do the Europeans get almost everything last?
@ThumperUK I kinda always assumed Europe had the same Club Nintendo features a NA, guess I was very wrong. Good to hear Europe got this than
@Tethers You probably are using the Wii U's Wii mode? Yeah...it unregisters your club nintendo account when you move to the Wii U, so you won't get any points for downloads on the Wii U's Wiishop
@MilesVor Even worse down here in AU. Nintendo Australia is the worst, they should all be fired. I'm sitting on thousands of stars but refuse to cash them in till there's something better then Mario face towels.
You can see the different Club Nintendos at http://www.nintendo.com/countryselector
Looks like AU has the least stuff, but NoE isn't much better!! If only we were offered the Nintendo t-shirt (and more) that America gets!!!
That's why there where sooo many surveys yesterday all of a sudden! I guess I even missed some, so I have to check again!
DSiware games purchased on a 3DS still don't show up though!
@Beta THIS, so much.
@Fudgewhizzle It definitely does. Ive played balloon fight, f-zero and punch out with it so far. Its good playing the Wii U VC games on the small Gamepad with the SNES controller.
In the Nintendo World apparently the nordic countries aren't located in Europe.
No Club Nintendo
Does anyone know why virtual console games for 3ds and wii show up but dont have surveys?
@Andy Green
Not everything counts for stars. The existing Wii U Virtual console games do not have surveys on your list, and neither do any 3DS Virtual console games.
Not to mention, half the game names on your "treasure list" don't match up to the survey they like to!
For instance, I clicked the button next to "The Denpa men" and it took me to a "Gunman Clive" survey.
yeah, i got a survey for a game i never bought instead of Nintendo Video. Still got the 50 stars so i don't care too much
@KonsumKasse
No Club Nintendo scheme at all really sucks for you - I thought you were included,
I think the rest of us should be grateful that we have any reward scheme!!
@#56 Nah all my Wii and 3DS VC games from since i registered show up in the list but dont have survey options
At least we got it now. Better late than never, nonetheless thank you Nintendo.
In case no-ones said yet:
-This works for 3ds and wii u eshop games
-No points for virtual console on 3ds or wii u
-You DO get points for free downloads like nintendo video, letterbox, that dreadful eurosport video thing, googlemaps etc
What a con the club nintendo is, do the Europe clubs (AU) only get the scraps from the other clubs.How about making all items available and at the same cost eg the game & watch collection 2 is 2500 coins in EU and 800 in the US why ?, When will the EU be able to buy games using their hard earned coins before they expire (don't get me started on this issue).And why buy a downloaded game when it is cheaper in the shops.
The lack of VC surveys is annoying as they used to have them, I got points for downloading both Link to the past and Sonic 3, but nothing since then.
That's a HUUUUUUUUUUUUGE bummer
@NintendoPro64 I think a Europe-wide release of anything takes a while because of the translation of text (rules, instructions, etc) Having said that, they are still unacceptably slow. Still waiting for a second speical mii!
Star catalogue = garbage..
@MeWario
I totally agree with you that the Club Nintendo rewards here are crap, but as far as games go, I think Nintendo Australia has actually done a pretty good job.
We get nearly all of the retail releases that Europe gets no more than one week after them (even the really niche titles). And considering there is probably only about eight of us in the entire country that buys them, I think they've done a pretty good job.
Given that CN Australia is governed by NoE, does that mean we also get these benefits?
I didn't know about this, I feel sorry for my brethren over at europe while we in Na were getting coins for downloads all along, well you get it now.
and what about Finland and many other countries who dont have nintendo club support in eshop.?
I hope this extends to Australia! It would be really great if we could redeem CN points for eShop games too.
I'm honestly surprised that it took so long for Europe to get the opportunity to use Club Nintendo.
Too bad I already bought all the good eShop games
@DrSlump the star catalogue is still better than the coins one.
@guilhermecahu
Meanwhile in Latin America and so many other countries... Fixed
Ok so they get stars for buying through eShop but can they register they copy they get from a store? You know, like in the US Club Nintendo? Do Japan have a Club Nintendo service too?
@Cygnus oh yes, we can get a "boo notepad" for only 2000 star points. I'm so excited.
Point 1 : you receive only 50 stars
Point 2 : anything useful start at 5000 stars
Point 3 : there are only 2 things that worth buy
If Australia decides to implement this as well, I sure hope they put up some worthwhile prizes for us to redeem the stars with
I have no use for a Wii remote stand or a DS stylus set.
@Magikarp: I hear that. I got both of the items I saved up for already (both G&W Collections), and I'm toying with the possibility of getting the Mario Party card deck or Mario Hat DS pouch. Apart from those, I'm not sure what I'd like.
Always great to hear that Nintendo is making its service better
Now however I will have to compile so many surveys...
I think I will claim my stars very very slowly @.@;
Good News, tho the rewards aren't that good compared to the US rewards.
However not having a Wii I just use the stars to get Wii Points which I use for VC games.
I figure I can play them in Wii mode and if/when they get the WiiU VC upgrade I can just pay the £1 for WiiU features. (once WiiU VC lands properly)
I claimed 400 extra stars through surveys, good stuff.
Ohhh wait, there are some more for me to claim on page 2!
Yep, it's a joke the way Europe is treated. I've thousands of useless stars and no coins after filling in about 30 surveys when I bought my 3ds and decided to register all my existing wii stuff.
Stuff like this is why I haven't bought a wii u, even though I could afford 4 of them. If Nintendo don't care about me, why should I show them kindness?
I checked my account and can confirm this includes Australia. The problem is, only 3 eShop games have appeared on my CN account: Little Inferno, Tank Tank Tank and Trine 2. Where's the rest of my Wii U eShop downloads? Or ANY 3DS downloads?
I have about 40 entries to claim stars. I downloaded A LOT of games. But the rewards need to be upgraded indeed.
Looks like there are no survey and stars for 3DS VC titles.
What i don't understand is why some VC games don't even show up.
Non of the Ambassador games is are even listed on my account. Same for Zelda 4 Swords. But free games and apps like Eurosport or Excite Bike 3D Classic are.
Just strange.
I could get 2300 Stars right now. But what should is pend them on? The only intesrting stuff is at 7000 Stars. Nintendo had some very nice offers in the past.
I got some Hanafuda Play Cards, a Wii Towel, the Legend of Zelda Collection for Wii and then i spend 2800 Stars on Wii Points (otherwise i would have just lost them). I even lost 150 Stars because there was nothing worth buying.
Whoa, I claimed a total of 1350 reward stars in total, I was able to redeem almost every download for my 3DS and Wii U.
Virtual console games were not included, but free downloads such as 3D Classics Excite Bike, Pokédex 3D, 3D Classics Kid Icarus, Nintendo Letter Box, Nintendo Video, Eurosport, Tank Tank Tank and Wii Street U were all eligible! That's 400 stars from free downloads alone!
Well those 12,000 stars I have could come to good use finally.
How many coins do NA get for each retail 3DS and retail WiiU game, it's 250 stars per game in EU.
Oh and the pokedex pro survey is broke, it comes up as ERROR 404, the rest where fine though.
It's odd, because although I've already claimed stars for 3D Excitebike and 3D Kid Icarus (back when they first came out), most other games couldn't be claimed at the time.
Oh and FWIW - don't go claiming stars unless you need them now - if they're sat in your account for a year without spending them you'll lose them. Best to wait until you need the points THEN claim them.
Meh... I went to my Nintendo Club account, and I didn't find any surveys for MK7, Harmoknight and Gunman Clive. Why is that?
Besides, as long as Nintendo doesn't offer games for the stars, they are practically worthless.
@manu0: No, I bought Retro City Rampage on my Wii, but still didn't get a survey for this game.
Got a nice surpise when my points total bumped up to over 7000- so ordered the SNES controller.
There are a couple of complaints though- the surveys are really dull to complete and don't encourage you to complete them honestly.
For example if you put down that other people in your family will play the game then you are asked more questions about them too- and I couldn't really be bothered going through the rigmoral.
Also, the catologue is barren and needs a serious influx of new goodies. i would love to see the ability to turn my points into credit for E-Shop games...
I've just spent half hour looking for where I can purchase eshop games, before returning to this article and realising it's saying I can gain points for eshop purchases, not I can SPEND points ON eshop purchases. I know... egg and my face were in alignment...
In Norway I can't join Club Nintendo.
It's really a good news we can ears stars from past purchases. If only the Club Nintendo goodies were more interesting and less expensive -_- (7000 stars for a Snes pad? 1500 stars for a Yoshi cloth?! You muse be kidding!!)
I got a yellow pikmin plushie from it before which is nicb. Recently got a wii snes controller which is AWESOME for snes vc games-thats well worth the 7000 points or s
This would be great news.... if there was anything worthwhile in the stars catalogue that was a reasonable amount of stars!
If you think the the EU club Nintendo shop is bad you should see the AU Version. It has 14 items which are the 2 game and watch volumes, 2 pouches, shoe laces, cleaning cloths, pencil case, 2 sets of bookmarks, playing cards, a couple of DS game storage cases and a Wii remote stand.
@Tethers Is there a way for me to check? Because I'm pretty sure I did a survey for RCR.
@WiiLovePeace : Yes @ check: Go on "Club Nintendo", then on "My Account" and then on "My stars account balance" (or something like this) in the banner. Now you can see for which games/surveys you got 50 stars.
(I don't know if it was in every country, but with the abbility to now give feedback to you eShop-games, sometimes you got a survey for a game you haven't bought and/or which wasn't the one you clicked on. For example I have now got 2x 50 stars for Trine 2, but no survey for Aero Porter, although I clicked on it.)
@Tethers Hmmm, seems I was mistaken. It was Tank! Tank! Tank! I got 50 stars for, not RCR Sorry.
Australian gamers always seem to get the short end of the stick. I have been a member of Club Nintendo since it first opened in Australia. However, there has NEVER been anything worth getting (no matter how many stars you have).
Europe is able to get the 'Super Mario Galaxy soundtrack' and the 'Super Mario Characters Figurine' with their stars, I would love to be able to get either of those. However, if Australians want them, our only option is to spend money on eBay. I don't buy games to get rewarded, but it's a shame that very loyal Australian Nintendo gamers don't also get the same perks.
Finally Europe is getting the good stuff!
I have about 4000 stars...
All I am interested in is those downloads that NA are getting
