Project CARS developer Slightly Mad Studios has revealed that the Wii U version of the game will run at 720p and 30fps, but will still "look and feel amazing".
Creative Director Andy Tudor has been speaking to NowGamer about the forthcoming racer, and had this to say:
We always prefer to aim for 30fps generally in order to keep gameplay-specific features like having more cars on track or better weather effects etc.
So that’s standard across all consoles, and we’re more likely to utilize the native 720p support of the Wii U for launch especially since our physics and rendering systems demand a lot of processing power in order to deliver a truly next-gen experience.
All you need to know is that when you get the game, it’ll look and feel amazing and you’ll want to show it off to your friends.
Were you hoping for 1080p visuals and 60fps, or does it not matter? Post a comment to let us know your opinion.

But how will they compensate for the lack of analogue triggers, I wonder.
Hopefully it'll be compatible with a standard USB steering wheel.
Wish it ran at 60fps, but ok... it's the gameplay that counts, really.
This here game is looking really good. One of the main I need a wii U!
I was never expecting 1080p @ 60fps for any graphically intensive game.... The Wii U's hardware while much faster, it was designed around the idea of 720p resolutions for most games, where the PS360 were designed for Sub-HD resolutions.
1080p @60 fps is where my pc plays most games. If a console looked that good and ran that fast I'd be xontacting nvidia like wtf.
More interested in hearing about the controls, but I think this is the first time they've actually talked about the Wii U version. A good sign.
So, wait, is the PC version even 1080p @60fps?
You have 2 Analog sticks, Gran Turismo used on stick for accel/brake before GT5.
Although would like to see a Force Feedback Wheel released for WiiU Where you can slot the Touchpad into the steering wheel frame.
F1 would be great as the Screen could replicate the buttons/controls of the real F1 steering wheel.
This isn't the same game from the PS4 conference is it? Was that Drive club? Speaking from a graphical perspective alone, the car interiors look pretty computerised but the track and backdrop look almost photorealistic.
Wondering which version those screenshots are for.
Analog stick for acceleration is possible yes, but awful and clunky.
There's no reason Wii U shouldn't support the current Logitech wheels... PC / PS3 / PS2 all do, the only reason Xbox doesn't is because Microsoft wanted to charge a huge licensing fee to Logitech. I doubt Nintendo would be so forward thinking with this genre so it might just work without any restrictions. That's my hopelessly optimistic logic, anyhow. Accessory Drivers could be downloadable or packed-in the game.
Another idea: the Wii Fit board!
@Lin1876 I think that using the analog sticks to control precise acceleration is a good idea. I don't think that the other way is a deal-breaker. If we stuck to tradition, my controller wouldn't have a touchscreen that I love.
If it's only running at 720p and 30fps it better have great models and textures.
It would have been easy to add analog triggers. I never understood why they left this out. I wonder if we could use the gamepad as a Wii wheel and control sticks for gas and break...
Awesome stuff. Personally hadn't heard anything about the Wii U version of this game for like 6 months so just assumed it had been canned.
Still coming to Wii U though, day one purchase for me!
@Lin1876 - Nintendo's decision not to add analogue triggers is completely baffling...
Talk about a step backwards and for that reason I'll be getting this for my 360...
@datamonkey we should wait and see how the Wii U one controls first, they can still salvage something I think
I will get it for the PS4, it will run on it @ 1080p 60 fps. Imsure of that. Sorry Nintendo.
I read that the game is set for a Thanksgiving 2013 release. If so, I'm sure they'll have LOTS of time to work on it and probably improve the framerate.
I'll get this on pc thanks.
@Beta
I am part of the WMD (world of mass development - wmdportal) and have seen this game progress on the PC and it's great already and at alpha stage. On my PC it runs around 35-50 fps with max settings with a single GTX460 1gb (and over 60-70fps fps when running two graphics cards in SLI) at this early stage.
It looks incredible already and will be interesting how this looks on Wii U especially how they are going to get around the fact no analogue triggers (NFS Most Wanted should give a good idea albeit different end of the spectrum).
Just a heads up (if it wasn't clear enough), Project Cars and Drive Club are completely different games. Project Cars hasn't been announced for a PS4 release, whereas Drive Club is a PS4 exclusive.
720p @ 30fps is still decent in my opinion, and the game still looks great. The lack of analog triggers is not a big deal in racing games for me, however, I would enjoy using a steering wheel. If there are any Wii U problems, I'll just get it on PC.
Probably one of the best Wii U games to show the Wii U's graphics. Possibly getting it not because of graphics, but because this game really interested me.
Well this better have no frame rate dips or I am out on this.
I may get this as long as the reviews are favorable.
also, does this have an online mode? i would love to take on a few friends with this.
besides, I haven't played a decent racing game since mario kart wii, and NFS underground before that.
Reduction of visual awesomeness is okay. I have a kindle fire hd that runs on 720p hd resolution and it still looks cool. Racing is one of my favorite game genres too, so I may look forward to this game.
Day 1 purchase even though it does not run in 4d,240FPS at 4096 x 2304.
Jesus, people complain about everything
This is looking awesome, but a lack of analogue triggers is going to hurt it so much...
@Beta The PC version can be anything, 800*600 at 20 frames per second to 2500*1600 at 120 frames per second, PCs aren't limited like consoles, you can tweak all kinds of settings, and the better your hardware, the better it'll perform.
If what i'm watching are Wii U screenshots, then the game looks awesome and seems like the 720p native resolution (upscaled by default @1080p) with filters is the right choice. If Wii U will able to move all these bells and whistles without glitches, then this game will be a success.
I'm not really sure what to think of this game just yet. I am interested to see how this turns out though.
I was really hoping for at least 720p 60fps but I guess this should still be fine.
This game looks cool. May get this instead of Need for Speed.
I'm really looking forward to this one. Let's hope that the controls translate well...
720p and 30fps is going to look unbelievably awesome and photo-realistic to anybody upgrading to a Wii U from a Wii.
720p at 30 FPS...not exactly amazing.
But I'll deal with the aliasing as long as everything else looks nice.
@Grubdog
Wii Fit Balance Board for acceleration and deceleration with the gamepad or Wiimote with Wii Wheel for steering would be great! Would help save a bit of money if you already own a balance board.
Only car game I want analogue triggers would be a Sunday drive game where you don't want to plant your foot on the accelerator.
One thing that has developers loving the Wii U is the advancements in textures - who cares about 1080p 60 fps blandness?
Sadly I won't be picking this game up. Looks quite amazing & a lot of fun but I just can't handle realistic racing games. I'm an arcade-style only racer, having to use the brake button for anything other than drifting just makes no sense to me... In games as it is in real life
@WiiLovePeace please stay off the roads!
@Obvious78: No! PS4 is built by an AMD CPU with integrated GPU. The fastest you can is AMD A10 5800K Black Edition with AMD Radeon HD 7660D integrated GPU, which offers 384 Shader Units, 24 TMUs and 8 ROPs. The PS4 seems to be a 2x 5800K, that means, you can have twice the Performance when it's works just 100% perfectly. It can run CoD MW3 with 46 fps average in 1080p no FSAA no AF.
@AJWolfTill Are you kidding? Drive club looked horribly jaggy with lots of bad textures. This in motion and on a mid range gaming PC pisses all over Sony's 'true next gen' racing game. And if the Wii U version will follow in NFS Most Wanted's footsteps, it'll use PC textures too and will look VERY good.
You need to see this in motion and in 1080p, might make you reconsider:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iimV6qkrLfw - an almost 1,5 year old beta put together quickly from in game material, but it already showed promise.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=maoG0obe9g8 - only a couple of months later, once again ALL in-game shots. And do not forget to check the amount of detail: fully defined environments, even depth and 3D modelling on the curbstones, truly RIDICULOUS amount of detail on the cars, textures actually looking like they should (carbon steering wheel and dashboard, suede gloves, metal surfaces, rubber tires and so on) and real tracks and licensed for just about anything.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o1T35CkXJcA and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zqc4j8GSYvI - two clips of a later beta version on max visual settings, loving the textures again...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-OUReFEiqoA - all the cars...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWaSq2qJsMY - Project CARS vs real life racing.
And finally, one of the more recent official trailers: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tug6rRMqYuc
And I could on and on, and yes I'm a BIG fan of this game and love that this is coming to Wii U.
@Koto, not to worry, look at these older clips and know that this game will be amazing, even in 720p/30fps.
I can honsetly say None of my friends will be able to tell so if those are wii u screenshots i think the wii U will be fine this generation
@Obvious78 Re-read the post again. He said 720p and 30fps for ALL console. Plus it was nvr announced for PS4 (only for PS3, Xbox360, PC and Wii U) so i guess u wont get it?
For more screenshots head over to www.wmdportal.com
Since the human eye cannot even tell the difference between 30 or 60 FPS why do I care?
