Nintendo of Japan has confirmed that the Famicom (NES to you and me) version of Double Dragon is coming to the 3DS eShop next week - February 6th, to be exact. It's set to retail for 500 Yen (approximately £3.50 / $5.50).
The 8-bit classic is one of the seminal side-scrolling fighters of all time, and is based on the 1987 coin-op original. You can read our review of the Wii Virtual Console edition here.
That means we can expect a western release in the near future - will you be laying down some cash for this pugilistic masterpiece?

I'll pass on this one. Got it on Wii VC.
Might get it but not sure because I got the gameboy version on my 3ds and it should pretty much the same thing.
If this is the crappy NES version, no thanks.
I thought it was "Bimmy and Jimmy".
@JJfromTexas: That is Double Dragon III
I would get this for Wii U VC
Double Dragon Advance would have been way better. But I'll consider it.
Awesome! Hope it comes to NA! The arcade is my fave but I still like the NES port. Also....I love my nostalgia glasses!!
I just want Super Mario Bros. 3.
Its totally Bimmy and Jimmy
@Kyloctopus I was about to post that
Is this for two player? Sure hope so.
It has a Vs. mode, but no co-op.
That's why DDA would have been better!
DAT BIMMY
Boo! I doubt I'll ever buy any NES games via the 3DS eShop considering that the Wii U versions will eventually incorporate save states and the like.
The 3DS VC service has been severely disappointing so far. I was expecting a regular stream of Gameboy releases (which was the case when the eShop initially launched). What gives? I'd be all over the remaining Double Dragon handheld games if only they'd bother to release them.
@sillygostly The remaining Game Boy Double Dragon games are not very good. They're actually worse than this one by a fair margin.
Double Dragon Advance is not only the best portable Double Dragon, but the best Double Dragon game period. GBA games can't come soon enough.
Even though it doesn't support 2-player co-op, it's still the best version of Double Dragon out there (barring the previously named Double Dragon Advance).
There is just way too much challenge, fun, and crazy stuff that happens in this version. It puts the arcade version (which is still fun) to shame.
If someone were to program in 2-player co-op to this version it would be too much fun!
Way better than the arcade game. I will probably get this again.
Oh Come On, bring the gba version to the eshop.
Buy it for the brawling.
Play it for the music.
I'd rather just play Double Dragon Neon
Double Dragon 3 and Trog please.
3D Classic or no? The VC has been stinking it up and not enough 3D classics coming our way. Totally ok if Agetec keeps bringing out games like Bloody Vampire I will be happy to give them my moola. It feels like a PCEngine game but in 3D
