New Super Mario Bros. Wii was Nintendo's big Christmas hit of 2009, sweeping all before it in a multi-coloured wave of shells, fire flowers and multiplayer rage. Yay! Good to see Monster Hunter 3 on there too.
I hope Nintendo makes a sequel soon. NSMBW2 (longest Mario abbreviation ever!)
I agree with most of that list.
NSMBW had the most potential but it wasn't the best game. I bought it and a Wii because the first time I played it with a few people it was amazing. I haven't played it multiplayer since and playing single player shows you it's just a below average Mario game.
I traded in two games (Call of Duty: World at War and Super Smash Bros. Brawl) and paid $10 at GameStop for NSMBWii when it came out, and I haven't regretted it for a minute. Great game to play with friends/family, though I haven't gone back to it after finishing the bonus levels.
I would have liked to see more creativity in the level settings. Ice world, bowser fire world, desert world. Already seen all of that.
Just finished it with my little sister the other day. Now I'll replay it in single player to get all the coins we missed so I can enjoy the extra levels.
Definitely earned it. One of the best 2D platformers of all time.
LOVEPLUS!!!???
I really didn't like NSMB Wii,
I found it to be too, plane ans simple, but I geuss people like it like that.
NSMBW was alright... but it was short... and after you completed it, there isn't much point to go back and play it again. Unless you have friends over or something.
And I hated that Yoshi wasn't in all that many levels either and that you also lost him after you finished that level.
NSMBW had a lot of potential and it kinda sucked, but its still great. But if it had online, it would of been greater.
And the same ol' maps... please freashen it up, thanks.
I got NSMB wii when it came out my first impressions were it was very hard. I played trough to world 8 and have to say I taught it was ok bit hard I didn't complete it. Then I left it for nearly a year and started playing it again and this time I wanted all the star coins. I now think it is one of the best games ever made. For anyone who didn't think it was that good the first time go back and play it again. I did the same thing with galaxy and also enjoyed it more the second time round as well 10/10
Why did you bold CoD:MW2 (PS3/360), but not Wii Sports Resort?
James has forgotten which site he's on already.
Wow...2D is back in style!
I don't know what you're talking about, @Raylax :3
2D back in style? If only NSMBW was 2D. Sure the gameplay is but if the art were 2D it could have looked amazing.
Congratulations, Mario!
But the Princess is still in another castle!
I loved NSMBW, one of the few games that I have on the Wii that I did no research on it before hand just went out and got in.
NSMBW was great. It deserved that award completely.
As my favorite multiplayer experience of all time, it deserves it.
Are you serius? Bah!
One of the best games on wii but not game of the year material
Meh. Don't get me wrong: it was a good game but it felt too much like the DS version.
Proves that the Japanese know great games better than us
This game is totally awesome!!!!
Despite the mixed reviews from users on the site, NSMB Wii has been one of my favorite games on the Wii in sometime. It totally deserves the top spot.
I wouldn't be too surprised if "New Super Mario Bros 3DS" happens. Actually, before the Wii version was anounced I was almost completely convinced that we would get a WiiWare version of New SMB.... not that I'm complaining it was full retail, it ended up being pretty damn good.
You have to play it with friends, then it all makes sense.
As far as multiplayer experiences go, it's one of the all time bests I think.
God I hope they make a sequel.
Only 2 non-Japanese games in that line-up? Really, Japan?!
yep to be expected
This is actually kind of surprising. While I had several weeks of solid enjoyment out of this game, and playing with my brother was a lot of fun, I never really thought of this game as being game of the year material at all. I felt like perhaps not enough was different or fresh about the game to warrant such a high merit.
I almost felt like I was playing a simultaneous 2-player version of SMB3. Which is definitely not a bad thing, but still, for my point I'm trying to make...
I would gladly let it take #2, right behind a better game though.
