I'm gonna be refreshing every so often for pre-order pages to show up! This will be my first Switch. Although it was disappointing that there aren't better guts to have 4K upscaling, that's probably saved for the next generation Nintendo console. Regardless, I'm getting the Switch OLED
Preordered from GAME but that £10 delivery charge is a joke. Wanted to lock my preorder in though in case in gets scalped. Not as likely as the PS5 and Xbox but you never know.
Hopefully my launch model lasts till then and the fan doesn't give out 😞
They should launch it bundled with BOTW2 at Christmas. They would make a killing.
@Kiz3000 do they take the payment upfront or is it later?
Since it's an October release and Nintendo UK Store don't have their pre-orders open just yet, I'll wait a little bit.
But GAME is a good option.
October will be expensive, that's for sure

@Lordplops That's when the special edition hits with all the flair
Certainly not for everyone, but for new owners, an additional $50 seems worth it to me.
Seemed like Game was going to charge my card today for this (haven't preordered with them before for some reason) so decided not to bother due to the postage.
I've got an original switch not one with the bumped battery life, so this is a bigger upgrade for me and I really like the white one. I don't think this will get scalped as much as the PS5/Series X as it's not got the 4K / chip upgrade. Might just go for the official Nintendo store and get some points instead or see what bundles come up.
I've got a feeling the upgraded chip was going to drive the console price up too high and they decided to go with a bump instead.
The future games that really would benefit from faster processing have been so disrupted we might not see them til late 2022 now, so it kinda makes sense. Little bit disappointed that it's exactly the same under the hood but perhaps they can utilise some of the power better and the screen + wired internet will appeal to the handheld / docked crew enough to keep the Switch ticking over for a bit.
I play in docked mode 90% of the time, so this really doesn't appeal to me.
If this was my first switch, of course I'd get this model. However it is not worth upgrading for for me.
I see this as the equivalent to the 3DS XL, and not the New 3DS (with the Switch Light being the equivalent to the 2DS).
@YoungLink64 lets do it fam!
@sumdaddy They take payment later. Around about a week before release.
Man, I want one but at the same time I want to wait for whatever Special Edition model there will hopefully be. I have the SwSh Lite and the Animal Crossing Switch. I'm personally just not a fan of plain ol' consoles (this extends to the big boys too).
@Lordplops
They’ll make more of a killing selling them seperately

Man, the ban hammer is getting swung.
Gone with Game for now, just to get something locked in, but I'm not a fan of their mandatory £10 delivery. They implemented that during the Series X pre-orders. I didn't have to pay it, but then people who were ordering a few hours later did. Hopefully will be able to get it through Amazon or Nintendo themselves so I can cancel this order.
Fml Literally just blew up my pay and this happens. I dont mind like 50£ upfront but game charging the whole amount wtf.
US websites just say “not available” or “coming soon” which usually means all the bots got to them before actual people.
Why not do a Metroid Dread special edition with the game bundled in if they're releasing the same day? 🤷♂️
@iammikegaines Not likely since pre orders aren't live yet in the US.
@Kiz3000 I've signed up for Nintendo Life just to agree with everything you said! I've done the exact same.
@Peach64 Same! Even store pick up had that charge - Absolutely garbage as that could be spent on a case or something. I'll do the same if I can preorder somewhere else. Nintendo usually adds in some cool preorder bonus anyways!
Just a thought.
Samus Returns was revealed on a Tuesday, and then pre-orders opened on Nintendo UK Store the following day around 10am.
I'd anticipate the same in about an hour.
Now I'm wondering if this package includes the USB-C charge plug or not. I have a hunch that it may not due to what looks like smaller packaging.
"Good old GAME" seem to be charging a minimum of £9.99 on top of the retail price (for standard delivery or collection), as well as charging you right away (unsure about this last one).
It's no wonder I've not used this company in years...
@timleon
Retail price according to Nintendo UK Store appears to be £309.99 though.
https://store.nintendo.co.uk/en_gb/nintendo-switch-oled-model.html
Not an order page yet, but a page for registering interest.
So my guess the OLED version will be only sold in the USA and UK?
Japan and the rest of Europe is not getting this?
@ok1 Just like Link's Awakening for Switch Lite. With nothing noteworthy to add to the experience
@RantingThespian
>I see this as the equivalent to the 3DS XL, and not the New 3DS (with the Switch Light being the equivalent to the 2DS).
well, you know, 3DS XL had screens double of the size of original 3DS model. so just that alone is a worthy upgrade even putting aside everything else. it had a different feel to it and a different experience in the end.
... and switch OLED on the other hand? not so much.
@RupeeClock Game charge the £309.99 retail price plus an extra £9.99 for either standard delivery or collection, bringing it to £319.18 =/
I'll look out for pre-orders on the Nintendo UK store or Amazon as they will undoubtedly offer free delivery.
@Kiz3000 The real joke is they even have a £9.99 fee if you want to collect in store!
@Shinnos They also seem to have an "insured" delivery option for £20...surely it's their responsibility to get the product to you in the first place?
@timleon
Oh, yeah delivery charge, I think that detail was not there in your comment at the time I replied to it.
I have an amiibo pre-order outstanding with GAME anyway, if I pre-order the OLED system from them I'll ask if they can combine pre-orders so I can save on shipping charge.
@Shinnos Amen brother.
@BattleForceX Anyone from NLife here? Is there any sort of commision I am entitled to?
Really want the white version, I like the quality of life changes even if not a massive upgrade.
Will the Joy-Cons still have the drift issues?
Quite happy to upgrade from my original launch day Switch (looking tired now).
I have only bad things to say about this but I'll save my ban for another day 😀
Smyths have pre-orders up. They wont charge to hold the console also you can have it delivered for £6.99. I got my pre-order in with them last night
White ver already unavailable from Game
Not sure, affordable, better screen and size. But certainly not worth the cost just to upgrade.
I guess within a year the old Switch will be phased out.
It does say something about how Nintendo seems to be accepting the limitations of the kind of games that will run well and look good on their console.
As I said to myself earlier in the year, if the "Pro" isn't a thing then I will hold out for the next limited edition, preferably a BotW 2 model.
I won't be getting a single thing until 2022.
The fact the box is more round is throwing me off a bit..
It’s not a problem, I’m just not used to it
Smyths toys in Ireland toys.ie have it up for pre-order if anyone is looking.
Looks neat. I play mostly hand held.... but I don't wanna download all my games and save files again... and I don't want to start splatoon 2 again
@Deljo oh come on.. it's a little wittle ban.. go nuts.. let it out. 😅
Smythstoys has it open for pre-order and can be collected for free, avoiding GAME’s nasty £10 delivery charge.
Very tempted to pre-order myself. And then sell my OG model after picking one up.
@KnightsTemplar To my knowledge you can transfer all your safe files and data from one Switch to another. Nothing would be loss.
Wonder if retailers will have enough stock too cover demands as chip shortage is now effecting Oled screens so it could be the same problems as ps5 and Xbox series X
@Barrubo yes I no.... except splatoon 2... that game you have to start again
I cannot fathom how Nintendo can continue the production of those fragile joycons without any update. After only three years of moderate use, the left one is unusable. Hard pass for me.
@Deljo
Is that why the poster was banned , didn't see the posts just thought it was someone being nasty.
But if people are getting banned for not liking this, it's a little petty of Nintendo life.
Just hope I don't get banned for this post
@suikoden Unlike PS5 and Xbox many people already have the Switch so while there could still be a chance of that happening it is a low possibility.
@KnightsTemplar Ah okay I forgot that some games for some reason do not have cloud save.
Already paid and pre ordered the white one.
I'll wait until Nintendo E mails me about it. Fairly certain they'll do the "month before release for ambassadors" like they did with DS,3DS and New 3DS. It isn't the upgrade i imagined but it still looks lovely so far.
Thankfully my 2017 Switch is still in good health. Can hold onto my money for now.
In Europe it costs 350€, which is just 20€ more than the standard version. It's a pretty good deal, I say!
I will probably get it along with Metroid Dread. I would like to enjoy that game as best as possible.
@Kiz3000 I agree that £10 charge is a joke it’s not like we’re not already spending enough on their site 😡
@FargusPelagius That would be nice. I still have my ambassador New 3DS. Such a beauty that box and console were.
Would Labo get updated with a scaled down mode for the OLED model?
@tatchy game don’t usually charged to dispatch 😊I’ve order my one on there and they haven’t charged my card if that helps 😊
Hey um I'm kinda new to this website and they said that I can bookmark this for any updates but I couldn't find where to do it. Help please?
The only time I play it handheld these days is if the TV is in use for something else or I’m in bed. The fact that they haven’t put Bluetooth audio in really frustrates me.
The screen is nice, the kickstand is nice, but it just needed more for me to consider buying this.
Honest, non-judgy question: those of you that have said your OG switches are looking ‘tired’ now, what exactly are you doing with them? I’ve had mine since day 1 and I wouldn’t suggest it looks anywhere near tired. I’m curious as to what has happened to yours…
@RantingThespian Agree with all that you said. I don't think I'll get it just yet as there's no change to docked play which I do a lot as well. The screen looks lovely but I don't need a second switch lol. Metroid Dread however is a day one purchase.
Well for mine I think the reason is that I can be quite rough with it whenever I play it handheld and it did screw it up. It got bad enough where it would no longer connect to the TV when I dox it. I was going to get it fixed but then this was announced so it was just good timing for me to get an upgrade instead of just fixing it.
I’m kind of on the fence about this , I’ve had my switch since launch and play it pretty much everyday . I don’t need to buy this but im tempted to upgrade as it does look like a nice piece of kit
@Sam_TSM The only thing wrong with mine, apart from a couple of minor scratches on the back, is the fan going into full cycle about 30 seconds after booting it up. It could probably be solved with opening it up and giving it a bit of a clean but the bigger, brighter screen and improved battery life on offer here is enough to convince me to just sell the old one and get a nice shiny new one.
I hardly ever play in handheld so don't think I'll bother. Already have a wired LAN adapter. I do like the white dock and joy cons though.
Welp, you'd be wasting more money upgrading this. You can't sell your LCD Switch at its full $300 price, so in reality, you would probably be spending $150 more as opposed to $50 more.
One preorder up on Ebay Europe for €600. LOL
I pre-ordered one this morning in Ireland. I really dont know if I want it, but I will see how I feel about it by Oct 1st and make my decision then, either to keep or cancel it for someone else to get it at normal RRP.
The black and white one must be selling well as game is now out of stock of it . I’m sure there are plenty still left to preorder though as we’ve yet to have Amazon or Nintendo store open the preorders up
Wanna a know the truth?? This revision was set to launch last year in october, before next gen consoles.
However since the pandemic and the animal crossing effect sold ton of switches, nintendo was in no hurry to release it (specially taking into account that for most part of the year there were shortages on electronics).
So yeah,it might feel weird because we are getting this "tiny" revision a year late and because videogame news sites were so bored that they had to constantly insist on a new switx coming.
I mean, come on, websites like this one have "told" us since summer 2017 that an improved switch was around the corner.
Good journalist would apoligise for creating more than 20 articles based on rumors that they assumed would become truth eventually in some form. But they have not. This new revision has nothing to do with anything switch pro related (as the switch pro communicated by videogame news websites)
In addition, there will be no switch pro. A next gen switch?? Maybe, but not a switch pro (in the sense of a New 3ds).
Programing for switch is already hard because it's underpowered and you have to optimize for tv and for handheld. Imagine having a pro switch, it would mean that developers would have to program for 4 different kinds of display (4k tv, and 1080p handheld for switch pro, and 1080p tv and 720p for handheld, and yeah, 1080p tv and 1080p handheld would need different optimizations).
So having to optimize for 4 displays just to release the game on one console could be the death of switch.
Switch pro makes no sense, next gen switch does, and we are still far away from it (we will get it when prime 4 comes, which will be a launch game for next gen switch, like breath for wii u and switch.
Source... who cares, it's valid as any other switch pro source, aka, wishful thingking+imagination.
Let the scalping begin!
I've been watching Best Buy and Gamestop (US) but still nothing available. I can't tell if they are sold out or never opened ordering yet...
@Welshland is this normal practice with Smyths? I’m not surprised by GAME but cant believe these companies are charging shipping cost for goods over £100! Rip-off if you ask me and if I were preordering I’d wait for Amazon or Nintendo store.
I'm going to wait for reviews on this. The screen size is increasing, but not the resolution, so it will likely look a little worse except for the color contrast from the OLED. And no performance benefits, so why spend the money if you already have a Switch.
@MetalMan likewise but I'm currently at work hopefully I can score one from somewhere 🤔
In short: buy if:
1- Never owned a Switch before.
2- You play on handheld mode more often than TV mode.
3- Your Switch is not working, which is a rare case.
4- Fancy for OLED and bigger screen.
Other than that, definitely not worth it.
@Sam_TSM i had a launch day switch. Issues I had with mine were, the lcd screen was lifting from the left corner (Nintendo fixed) then I my console started warping under heat, and as a result of that I believe the plastic housing started to crack, and all the fan grills cracked away too.
I sold my v1 switch last month and recently bought the v2 after holding out for a “Pro” model but sods law.
I’ve been contemplating returning it for the oled but I think it’ll be a lot of faff for not much gain. Not to mention the 3 month wait without a games console for me and the kids.
Edit: also I forgot, the game card reader stopped working out of the blue. Bought the spare part and replaced myself and a new housing!
For mine I have a few problems. Charge is running out more faster then it should, a few scratches on the screen and lastly my Switch could no longer connect to the TV when I dox it. So getting this Odel module would be worth it for me.
@invictus4000 I doubt it- pre orders were open for hours before some eventually selling out.
@Wavey84
You can purchase the dock separately from the Nintendo store if that's the only thing you are after.
Prefer the white model over the black - nice for a change. Placed preorder with Smyth.
@Outspoken; the only reason I have pre-ordered is to secure my white console. If I am lucky enough to secure an order via the official Nintendo store or Amazon then I will shop there instead. Smyths and Game are the only place available for pre-order as it stands at the moment.
Wow looks like both Game and Smyths have sold out of the white model switch now. Glad I got my pre order in.
Looks like Game is out of all stock now and smyths. So looks like Nintendo didn’t need a pro after all as this thing is still selling well.
Wait did the US preorders ever actually go live?! Are they gone, or not yet started?!
I checked all day and night yesterday and nothing appeared anywhere.... now it's up, and they're gone? Or didn't start yet? If so, this is a bigger cluster than Sony!
Anyone know when Amazon will start their pre order?
Gamestop page is down for pre orders. Has it Crashed?
@TrashedStranger seems like people have gone mad for it 😊
Would have actually cared if this was the prophesied switch pro. This has got to be one of the biggest let downs in terms of upgrades for a Nintendo handheld/console. New Nintendo 3ds was legitimately better than this and that's saying something
Might pay to keep refreshing Smyths page. I did and one came in to stock to collect near me. Out of stock again after I preordered it.
I'm in the US though
Im going to pre-order at GameStop if they have in stock
No pre-orders yet in the US, as of July 7th, 8pm Central Time.
Still conflicted on getting white or black. I use the super chad Binbok joycon which are black, so it would look a bit weird with only a white dock, but I'm feeling like a change. Ugh. Decisions decisions...
No pre-orders yet in the US, as of July 8th, 1am MST.
@Outerdragon
Goes to show that the online "backlash" to the Switch OLED not being a Switch Pro is meaningless in the grand scheme of things if the preorders are already sold where available.
@westman98 exactly.
GAME charging the choice of £10 or £20 delivery - when both arrive the same day...? Shouldn't a dedicated videogame retailer be doing good things for videogame fans instead of essentially trying to rip them off? They have 100% added this option to prey on the uncertainty and nervousness of delivery following the PS5 thefts. Pretty low, even by GAME'S standards.
@nocdaes They implemented that delivery fee right as the pandemic kicked off. GAME's ethics are questionable at best
@Welshland ok I get you, I noticed Amazon are preparing their pre order now. Probably open within the next 24hours.
5pm Smyths Toys in UK have more stock now!
Nope Amazon’s sold out now 🤦♂️😂
Not even able to preorder in the US. This article is a farce.
Don't know what's worse, Nintendo charging more money, or people paying it.
@The-Chosen-one doubt they need worry as pre orders are selling out.
Got an in store pickup pre-order for the White OLED from Smyths! Happy days.
Okay Smyth Toys has more OLED modules ready for sale and I have finally pre-ordered mine. If you don't mind paying £6.99 more for delivery then you know where to go.
B&H has a listing, no order button yet.
Maybe Nintendo might be struggling with making this new version to meet demand.
still no US pre order
@Sdelintwouters Thanks for the heads up. That should give us US consumers an idea on what pre-orders will be like in the US. I would imagine this revision isn't as high demand compared to the idealized specs of the elusive Switch Pro we've been reading about and the Pro may just exist as a fantasy (until the next generation).
All the yet-to-be-released Switch OLED model is is just that, a model with OLED. People who already own the earlier model Switches may not want to spend more money just for one major feature among minor ones (Ethernet cable, kickstand, better audio). Maybe the US will have a couple hours window. We'll see lol
It seems cool imo. The only thing I don't like is the price. $349.99 is what the deluxe Wii U originally sold for, before getting reduced by $50.
@ok1 As in, Metroid Dread will not be enhanced in any way on OLED, as it has the same guts as the regular Switch, and the bigger OLED screen will have lower pixel denisty than regular or Lite so you may get some distortions here and there due to 720p res
Heads up UK peeps, Argos has the white one up for preorder.
@BulkSlash Apparently it isn't available for delivery to Northern Ireland.
@LukeNI That sucks. I had Argos, Currys, Amazon and John Lewis (long shot!) open all day yesterday refreshing every few minutes in case they listed stock. Hopefully one of them will finally list their stock and will ship to you.
@BulkSlash I've been doing exactly the same other than John Lewis as we don't have that store here. I think my best bet would be Amazon at this point. It's listed on their site but I don't think the pre orders have went live yet.
@ModdedInkling You could if you had an unpatched model
@The_New_Butler
😭 Oh man, should have been the first thing fixed. I know the warranty is fine but still rather save the hassle with a v1.1 joycon 👎
Thanks for the reply!
@Dazza Just so everyone knows i think some european pre orders are up. I moved to Rep. Ireland and the gamestop.ie have them for pre order, with a trade in your old switch sort of exclusive thing.
No one seems to be talking about how the new Switch OLED is perfect if you've been waiting for an upgrade before getting a second switch in your household. Since my wife got Animal Crossing and took over the switch I've wanted to get a second switch for house but because of all the rumors of a pro I've been waiting for an upgrade to do it. The wait is over, I can't wait to preorder the new Switch OLED!
Both now also available to pre order from Argos but payment will be taken when the order is placed.
by the way - Min Min Amiibo was available for preorder in Japon Sunday, just in case anyone wants to get their order in early to beat the friends on ebay.
never mind - it is already gone.
Pre ordered mine from Game as soon as they were announced, will get a pretty decent price on my existing Switch, when I transfer everything over.
Only £29 more in the U.K than the regular model, well worth it for that awesome screen.
I'm still looking for the 'why' rather than the 'how'.
I'd love to get one in theory but I have a feeling they'll do a Lite oled sometime next year. Imo a Lite is better for handheld play and carrying around since it's lighter and smaller. And it'll be cheaper.
Just a word of warning for anyone ordering from very , pre orders money is taken straight away
Very must or had a few to pre order as he’s been live since yesterday and you can still pre order now as well.
I hope the fact that it's only an upgrade if you play it as a handheld helps deter scalpers, or at least helps them fail at scalping this time around.
This is pretty weird that they're just indefinitely holding US preorders. I can only assume this is a territory they know they can dump all their vanilla Switch so they're not too geared up to run preorders. Also weird that only 2 retailers are listed.
NoA is a weird, weird entity.
I have cancelled my Argos pre-order as I'm not happy with the money being taken three months early.
What I would like to know is, can I sell my existing Switch now and all my games (digital) and saves be downloaded again or am I stuck with this one until I get the new model to transfer across?
Enjoy people....
But this one aint for me. Cannot justify it at all yet. Especially, not for £309....
I can buy a LAN adapter for $30 USD. The OLED is completely useless for me. I game docked on my 4K. First time users..sure.
Snagged a White OLED from Gamestop. Can’t wait!
I guess I missed the boat to preorder. Had my Best Buy and GameStop apps ready and neither gave me any success. Sad faced
12:00 and 2 seconds:
Aaaaand it's gone!
https://images.app.goo.gl/tLX2eZ5vp6uLADLq5
(For the South Park Fans)
Yep refreshed every 20 seconds until I saw the pre-order pop up on best buy. Clicked right away, and now giving me a “please wait” to “try again”. Sooooo… bots?
In-store pickup-only? Really, Best Buy? Fudge that, preorder cancelled.
Ehh, got a Neon one from Gamestop. Def wasn't intending to spend $400 today but why not lol.
@NEStalgia LOL you seriously cancelled for that?! 🤣
@redd214 are they shipping, or is it in-store only? I got 2 in my cart at BB, got to checkout, and they were going to ship it to another state..... LOL, no thanks. Even my closest BB is 35-40 min away.
Would have been nice if they put on the page that they're not shipping them at all. You had to get to the cart to find out. I found out on the Pay Pal address page, checked the cart, and sure enough, in-store only.
I never even saw GS go live. It's been "Not Available" the whole time.
@redd214 Yeah, I don't do in-store pickup, especially with 30+ minutes travel through ever more horrendous traffic. If it can't be delivered, it can't be purchased is pretty much a requirement for me.
@NEStalgia Ha seems a bit silly for such a minor time commitment but hope ya find one! Yes GS is shipping. I gaurentee traffic in your area isn't as bad as here lol!
@Azooooz In short: buy if:
@Azooooz 1- Never owned a Switch before.
Even then they still have v2 Switches out there it's not like a OLED and all other v2 units were recalled back to NIN.
@Azooooz 2- You play on handheld mode more often than TV mode.
6.5" to 7" still small screen size however you look at it.
@Azooooz 3- Your Switch is not working, which is a rare case.
This is called User Abused if you take care of something it will last until controls wears out. As to drift that hearsay and since those claims have no documentation to track them that's a mute point.
@Azooooz 4- Fancy for OLED and bigger screen.
OLED or LEd or 6.5 or 7" it's still a small screen your still using v2 Switch GPU that does little for Performance value.
@Azooooz Other than that, definitely not worth it.
You can find v2 Switch NIB for 299.99 far less then the asking OLED prices. My view is buy the v2 new and put that extra toward getting Pro controller(s) or more Joy-Cons so everyone can enjoy it more.
@redd214 My life flashes before my eyes any time I leave the house basically. IDK how you do it, where you are IIRC it's even way worse than here but people are maniacs on the roads and the roads are ever more crowded. I avoid going anywhere unless absolutely mandatory. I've been "quarantined" for a decade, and even the few places I did got it's so horrendous I don't even go there anymore.
Good to know GS is shipping. I'll keep my eyes peeled. Never saw theirs go live at all. I wish Target and Walmart were participating. Weird for Target not to. Ironically I have a GS relatively close so I'd be more likely to pick up there than anywhere else. I'm in a shopping desert.
If I can't find a preorder by October I may end up buying an old V2 or a Lite. My launch battery is getting horrible. I play with a big external battery most of the time.
Just snagged mine on BestBuy, and yes, it's store pickup only. Not the most convenient, but it thwarts scalpers.
I kept refreshing my Best Buy app until I had luck! Can’t wait can’t wait! 🤠
@NEStalgia Didn't people say you could replace the Switch battery?
@SwitchForce It doesn't look like that difficult a fix, though finding a battery is harder than it would seem, at least last time I checked, and I wasn't super confident the ones I found were really the right ones for v1.
@Burning_Spear once again scalpers ruin everything for others, even by trying to thwart scalpers. Yuck. Hopefully that's not going to become the permanent solution. I doubt I'll preorder anything again if that's the case.
@NEStalgia Yeah just messin with ya man. The next GS wave will probably be some type of bundles unfortunley. Amazon still hasn't gone up but they have their own schedule so the may open at 3 in the morning for all we know lol. Will keep my eyes open for ya!
@NEStalgia Yeah, I get it. I'm only five minutes away from Best Buy, but I'd still rather have it shipped. I'm sure it's a much, much bigger deal for people who don't live near major retailers.
@redd214 Haha, thanks! I don't think I've ever seen Amazon's preorders for anything since the PS4 launch. They go up, but I just can't F5 fast enough it seems. I'll keep checking. I'll be up pretty late in general today so I hope it's early in the morning like that!
Target has "coming soon" and no pages. Not sure if they'll do preorders, or if they'll just wait for October. Walmart has nothing. Target infamously has done "store pickup only" for a number of things before, though not for PS5/XSX or Switch launch.
I'm getting too old for this.
I don't need this upgrade. Half the time I play in docked mode, and I don't have any vision problems that would require a larger screen. I already have the upgraded Switch model as I got the Animal Crossing special edition bundle, so battery isn't a problem. This thing just ain't for me.
So... I just ordered one. Looking forward to picking up at Best Buy on release day.
@Burning_Spear Haha, yeah, they decided sometime over the past 30 years that they'd build all shopping for the whole region in two hubs, and everything in between is an endless desert of housing, offices, and medical, with nothing else except CVS, Panera, and cell phone stores. Now even the cell phone stores are vanishing. And I'm smack between two of those central shopping hubs, so anything but grocery (and Ironically, GameStop) is minimum half an hour in any direction. The one is half an hour (22 min to the parking lot entry of the first store in the clearest of traffic days, which is rare), and the other one took an hour to get to the last time I tried, 30 minutes of which was making it through one single intersection. And it was like 98 degrees that day, too!
At this point I consider going to the mailbox a travel expense.
@NEStalgia Yeah walmart has really been a disaster for the last few consoles, little to no bot protection, poor checkout process etc etc. You're right on target, at least for the PS5/Xbox's theyve been doing in store pickup only for the last 4 or 5 months from what I recall so probably the same with the one.
@Bret I had the same exact internal conversation before ordering it lol!
@redd214 I got super lucky with the XSX getting shipped by them at launch, then!
I was afraid when they all started talking about addressing scalpers that it was going to end up being bad for me....looks like that's the case. Kinda takes the fun out of looking forward to new stuff. Almost justifies the scalpers. They ship. They're actually adding value!
@redd214 I just can't avoid the nintendo thrall. They've got their hooks in me and they know it!
@NEStalgia Target just went up a minute ago, didn't look at if theyre shipping or not!
I managed to snag a white OLED model from Gamestop as soon as it went live. Excited for it. I might be the exact target audience in a way: bought a Switch Lite since I only play handheld, and I loved everything about it except the tiny screen as I mostly like playing text-heavy, complex RPGs and the like, and it's often rather difficult to see important UI elements and dialogue. It's been fine and I never bothered to move to the normal Switch, but now I'm jumping at the chance for a refreshed model with a luxuriously big screen to play on. I'm fine with going from the smallest model to the biggest model; it's gonna feel like a significant upgrade when it arrives.
There was a wild card introduced just an hour before preorders went live: the Steam Deck is the first direct competitor to Switch worth taking seriously in my opinion, and the only one that can actually sway me over and get me playing PC games again. Luckily you only need to pay a $5 initial buy-in to preorder, so I'm OK with preordering that as well tomorrow. Guess I'm doubling down on handheld this gen instead of a PS5; it's how I've played games for half a decade now anyway, so makes sense.
target is live
Refreshing Best Buy for half an hour straight paid off for me, yay
Best Buy was a good option, sold out fast in my area, but I did like how it was store pickup only. Was able to grab one from Target though. They were an hour later, but was a lot more relaxed checkout experience. Was able to use my RedCard and saved $17. Now hoping it won't get trashed during shipping.
@redd214 Drat! Thanks for the head's up. I appreciate it. Unfortunately I got stuck on a conference call and didn't see anything for an hour. Oh well!
Maybe either they, GameStop, or Amazon will still come up later, but as of now I'm almost tempted to largely abandon Switch save for a few exclusives, buy a 10" tablet and go all XCloud/Now for portable play. Was kind of looking forward to OLED Switch. 10" OLED is sounding kinda nice. I'd like to grab the Switch, but it's not looking likely.
“Upgrade”…..hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.
The answer is still no. The Steam Deck is looking pretty good though. Now that’s an upgrade.
@westman98 That's the funny thing about it. The vocal minority is just that. They scream the loudest and throw a fit, but at the end of the day a lot of people just don't care or get involved with social media and the like. This thing was a given to sell out instantly. There will be many opportunities come release day, I was able to easily get a Red Mario Switch for same day store pickup. This is only the beginning for the SWOLED, I'm sure it'll get new colors added eventually.
Same deal with Pokémon Sword/Shield. So many complainers online, it might be the most toxic community I've seen and yet it didn't matter. The game sold extremely well.
I knew this thing would sell.. about as easy to predict as resellers will try to mark up the price on eBay "preorders". People can have their opinions and express their displeasure on why they won't get it, which is fine, but it sounds like you're trying to convince yourself more to not wanting it if you ask me. If you didn't care, you wouldn't talk so much about it, right?
And you can't blame Nintendo for it being what it is, they didn't announce a thing until the other day. Blame Bloomberg and other media outlets that got it all wrong. Only believe the primary source, never the media, because they're just doing it for the traction and ad revenue they get. They don't care to get it right, no need to, they just have to post something click bait-like and the gullible ignorant eat up all the 4K and blast processing. Meanwhile in reality, places like Bloomberg are laughing at all the money they got from ad impressions.
I'm more interested in where to buy Steam Deck. lol
@thegametb
Don't worry, I'm sure "SteamDeck will kill off Switch" will be the new Nintendoomed talking point.
@NEStalgia lol I'm not sure the in store thing is just about scalpers. I was looking at tablets for streaming like I said, they list one that's not available shipped, is available for pickup.... Not at my selected store.... But they proudly declare there's one only 36 miles away!
I can't imagine why Amazon is winning......
I just want the dock and the white joycons. That's the only "upgrade" I want to do.
@naxuu Same. I only have the Lite. Excited for the awesome bigger screen, and also excited to play on a TV sometimes. I get to actually “switch” it! Hoorah! Plus that white is just 🙌🏼
@westman98 Not for nothing, it's pretty damn cool. We've seen a ton of these Windows devices that sound like a launch PS3 rocket and cost like 3x of Switch, we'll see how the end result turns out. It feels like a more polished consumer product, than a straight up portable PC/tinker toy all the Windows ones have been thus far.
@NEStalgia I've never tried to preorder from Amazon, just seems like a bad idea, because you're fighting with everyone else in the country over it. Best Buy did store pickup preorders and while that may sound better (in terms of human purchases vs bots it may be), you're also limited to like a handful per store, so it's still slim pickings. I was successful with Target.com.
@thegametb Yeah, back in the PS4 launch Amazon was perfectly fine. After that I'd pre-ordered a phone there and it shipped 2 months late. But preorder culture got much worse since then. It's really not fun anymore.
I regret missing Target. Darned adult obligations interfering with my toy shopping...
It's up on Amazon UK now, but my order is showing a delivery date of October 13th. Ehh, probably going to end up sticking with Game despite being disgusted at their £10 delivery fee.
I admit to having mixed feelings about this thing. On the one hand, I was disappointed that a genuine "Switch Pro" isn't coming (at least for now); on the other I was relieved not to have to worry about budgeting for such an upgrade when my plate is already pretty full looking ahead to the holiday season.
Do I personally consider the OLED Switch an upgrade? As someone who plays games exclusively while docked, no. There's literally no reason for users like myself to trade the existing model out for it; it's a horizontal trade for even more money.
That said, I think the OLED Switch will be great for users who do take theirs on the go, and obviously for new buyers who've yet to jump onboard the Switch train. In the long-term, though, I think it will be a rather obscure model sandwiched in between the original version and the one we've actually been waiting for.
Amazon got some more stock today so I managed to grab a pre-order. This is perfect for me as I only ever play in Handheld mode and My launch model is getting on in age now.
The OLED on PS VITA was and still is amazing so I am expecting great things from the image quality on this.
Of course I missed out on the preorder. Hopefully mostly scalpers bought them for resale, as is the norm these days.😐
@FredsBodyDouble
Yeah it sucks. I kept thinking "have they not gone live yet for preorder?" every time I checked. Nope! They have, they were just instantly gone.
Best Buy tried yesterday with a Pre-Order button that refreshed when stock was made available, but it was still a fluster cluck. An unassisted human had about a 1000th of a second to get in a pre-order to cart, but stock was vanishing out of shopping carts during check out.
Target (my preferred retailer) saved the day. White was instantly out of stock, but the Neon set lingered for minutes. Got an order and a 5% discount.
All of these companies REAAALY need to learn from Steam how it's done. Steam Deck preorders are a dream. One single retailer for preorders: The MFR. A small deposit to confirm preorder. No candy scramble to get the limited inventory all at once. You get put on a list. When the product arrives, they'll email people, FIFO that they'll convert the preorder to an order. Then you pay. And you get your product. Like a normal purchase at the time of shipment. Only people with an account that had a purchase at least 2 months ago or before can preorder at opening. And they'll actually ship them rather than making you drive out half an hour or more each way in traffic to receive it, conveniently saving them money in the process.
Simple. Efficient. Low risk. Low anxiety. Low disappointment. Everybody wins. And it's simple and low-tech. Existing customers first, others GTFO, we'll get to you when we get to you.
Sony ALMOST tried to do this with PS5, but messed it up, had far too few, and instead of FIFO, had a weird "we'll choose which accounts meet our secret, undefined criteria" (Which I read as: Streamers with the most friends, followers, and platinums which represent the best marketing value from receiving one day one.)
Nintendo COULD have done theirs as an NSO Special Offer. Like the controllers. But no.
Learn from Valve. EVERYONE. Learn from Valve!
@NEStalgia Amazon links are up, not live to order yet but should be soon!!
If you don't care about color I just preordered the blue and red from Walmart. 1140 am est
@redd214 Must have been up and down fast. I've been refreshing, but I can't even find links for it.
@NEStalgia Up now go go go, site is being glitchy keep trying!!
Reports it works better on the Amazon mobile app if you have that, link below:
https://t.co/LhdEJXhh2a?amp=1
@redd214 Hah, almost. I got there within 2 minutes, but nope, not available in browser, and never even showed up in the mobile app "(Did you mean "Nintendo Switch OLD"?)" LOL.
@NEStalgia shows up fine on my end, better luck next time!
EDIT: Neon is still up at Walmart for shipping as of me writing this:
https://t.co/6fuyVkBqno?amp=1
@redd214 Glitchy indeed. The button went active, I got one in my cart, and then got a 404 Dog.
@redd214 SUCCESS!!!
You, sir, are my hero (again!!) I have no idea how you found it, that page didn't even show up (at all) when searching the site, but Walmart did it. And the fact that it didn't show up is probably why they still had them. Actually placed a second order for someone else (hopefully they won't cancel one or both) - but so far, so good!
With that, I'll bow out of the Steam Deck race. (Maybe that's why nobody was watching Switch now.) Steam Deck is cool, but having no library on Steam currently, makes it kind of dodgy to enter a third ecosystem for a device that's less powerful when docked than PS5XSX, doesn't allow simultaneous sharing, and I'd mostly use as an XCloud device
@NEStalgia always a pleasure to help man, enjoy!!
@redd214 Aaaaand, both orders cancelled.....they claim "credit card fraud detection." I paid pay pal. They already sent the text that they sent the money.....sigh
Anyone else having issue with Walmart. They still had them. I placed another order. And within a minute it was refunded. Paypal shows the payments and refunds. Clearly a Walmart issue, why else would they actually still have any left to order if they're not cancelling everyone?
PSA: I highly advise against attempting to order from Walmart. A very confusing call with a CSR, after chat passed me to GROCERY, who passed me to the right CSRs tells me, I think, that basically attempting to buy this item that shouldn't be available flags your account with a fraud flag. They're going to remove it from the site, supposedly, but basically once you try to buy this item, you're locked out of Walmart purchases until you go through CS and then their verification team frees your account some days later.
Meanwhile I have $800+ in authorizations on my card from failed attempts that will probably take days to weeks to fall off. Joy.
Edit: Holy heck, they STILL have it available to check out on their site! They've got to be fielding a million calls about "fraud" detection at this point. #FAIL-Mart - Always Low Standards. Always.
(4 hours later, STILL "available".) This is a circus!
@NEStalgia Ahh sucks man, hope you can snag one!
@NEStalgia That's the thing I hate about the current culture we live in. You have like one window of opportunity and if you don't get lucky, gotta hope there's another chance down the road or consider scalper shenanigans. I blame people with disposable income that don't care about price, to them it's more about boasting.. and I also blame manufacturing. they want to use covid as an excuse for low print numbers, but it's their greed that's making this an issue. Don't release new hardware or hell a new generation during one of the worst times in history. Corporations doesn't care who buys their product, as long as someone buys it.
@thegametb Yep. It's almost like having nearly all products for the entire population of the entire planet all made in a single country then shipped to everywhere else through a limited number of ports to each place was a bad idea..... And here, I thought planting a single species of potato in Ireland in the 40's was a good idea, too...
I kind of get it. Part of the problem is the nature of how "technology" items evolved (through planned obsolescence) that when a new one comes out, everybody wants the new one at the same time, and it's impossible to manufacture enough demand to sell to so much population all at once and not have to buy acres and acres of warehouse space to store it all before you sell it. There's a logistical impossibility there. But the take-away from that should be regional distribution in waves where manufacturing can meet demand reasonably. Not "oh well we have 5 years to make enough product for world demand, get in line and race to the register, no pushing, sorry about that baseball bat to the face!
If anything Valve probably did it the best possible way. Allocation per region, existing customers first, and when they're gone, you can still order and get in line for the next wave....a year from now. At least you can have your order in the queue whenever it becomes available. But then that raises a new problem. If demand for an item is so high, and tech moves so fast, and it takes a year + from announcement for even the second wave of customers to get one, an item is roughly obsolete by the time it's available. Why bother at all? Just buy whatever's cheap on the shelf when you get there and that's the era of tech you're in.
We've built a completely broken completely unserviceable model for the modern world. The pandemic made it worse, but we know it wouldn't be all that much better even without it. Thats what happens when you have 8 billion people, with a market of 4 billion, and one physical factory in a dictatorship to produce it all to be available for sale at the same moment worldwide. How did they THINK this was going to work? I'd give anything to go back to a world where a locale's products were made in that locale, and anything imported was considered rare and exotic. Not out of a matter of "national pride" but simply because it's a system that actually made sense for anyone but banker financiers. And it incorporated redundancy rather than streamlining to the efficiency of a single point of failure for the entire planet.
And the large number of people with disposable income for bragging rights, as you said, keeps making matters worse, as it keeps driving costs up when the promise of tech was to drive costs down. After all, as population doubles every 10 years, that means even if the same percentage of the population is actually rich compared to the poor and those just getting by, there's still double the number of people every decade who can afford to throw money at whatever they want because they feel like it. It distorts the market severely.
@NEStalgia Back up
Target https://t.co/ItDDEyVrPW?amp=1
Gamestop https://t.co/tgFFTHtvsl?amp=1
@redd214 Thanks for remembering me! I managed to get one at Target!!
It's a little hairy, because they and GameStop don't charge right away, they just put an auth on, and they cancel if anything goes wrong with re-auth. I did it through Pay Pal, and because Walmart stuffed my secondary card with a ton of credit-limit loading authorizations (because buying a Switch flags your account as fraud apparently), I had to put it on my main card that expires before release.
HOPEFULLY updating the card in PP will make it all magically work whenever the bank gets around to sending the new one. But I had some issues with that card in PP because the bank pushed some update that they issued the new card, to Pay Pal, a month + before they really do, so I had to remove and re-add it just a few days before the preorders.
Then a few days later I got the Walmart debacle where they insisted the bank was declining transactions for fraud and I should resolve that with the bank (hilariously some of those charges actually POSTED - and then were refunded.) "Bank declined due to fraud" my assembly. Bank declines don't result in posted charges. Walmart being Walmart does! Forget the Switch Tax, this is going to be the Switch FICO Impact!
Hopefully this one will actually hold through into the new post-expiry card! If it weren't PayPal there'd be no hope. And at least it's not Walmart. SERIOUSLY going to have to consider if I ever preorder through them again, assuming I even can. Thanks again!!
@NEStalgia Awesome bro, happy to help! Yeah I've gotten a good number of those declines as well with my PayPal account over the last 7/8 months helping people get consoles. I guess it is kinda sketchy have 4 or 5 $500 transactions go through the same retailer in 10 minutes haha! Hope this one sticks for you my friend!!
grabbed the white one at argos let's go
Woohoo, now I can witness bad framerates in all it's full 1080p glory!
I keep clicking the links to buy a Switch but it keeps redirecting me to the Steam Deck! (Mods, this is a JOKE, please...)
Can’t find them in the USA unless of course you go to eBay.
Argos orders are determined on local area btw so of its not available for delivery, try another area which has an Argos near it as they all get a certain amount of units
Still no signs of white joy-cons being sold separately.
@Dragwhite,
Pretty sure some stockists will not have a clue how many units they will have for launch, but will take as many pre-orders as possible, then send out what they get and put the rest on backorder.
Both Amazon.com and U.K have been showing unavailable pretty much since the console was announced.
For new owners it would be a easy seller.
Not for me. The same switch with only a lil bit bigger screen. Not worth the price.
Ill just keep the switch i have and buy a Steam Deck as my next handheld.
@johnvboy damn, i remember when i went to buy a ps5 Argos got about 10,000 units split across all stores depending on town/city size so i was using that logic for it since it's a similar situation being console orders and all,
Still not available to pre order on the Uk Nintendo site! They didn't put Pokemon Snap onto the website until the game released so don't rely on them.
I went for the white model only as i want the best handheld experience with the slightly bigger screen and OLED screen.
@The-Chosen-one
PLUS OLED screen, better speakers, 64GB storage, better kickstand, dock with ethernet port, more battery life (if you come from a 1st generation Switch)
You know, for something that was really pooh-poohed from the start, and going up against Steamdeck and all (surely Steamdeck will squash Nintendo, right? RIGHT?!?), it sure feels like this thing is selling out on a pretty consistent basis. Glad mine's all paid for.
I like the white one, but I am hoping for a special Splatoon 3 edition. And that my release model Switch can hold on long enough 😁
Johnny Rotten of Sex Pistols once said: "Ever get the feeling you've been cheated?". I feel like that. Smartphones get upgraded with a new CPU/camera each year but 4 1/2 years after first Switch we only get a better screen for an even more expensive price? Think Nintendo could do better
Will get the eventual (hopefully) BOTW 2 version.
@Sdelintwouters When I went to go preorder the White model from Target back in mid-July, it suddenly got very busy at work and missed it by a minute. Five minutes later I suddenly remembered that the Black model existed and got that with a few minutes to spare.
Kinda reminded me of the Gamecube launch when I wanted the purple model but Meijer sold out of it. The last 30 people in line all got the Black model instead.
I managed to pre-order the white model at Smyths.
Nintendo UK Store have finally opened listings for the OLED model.
https://store.nintendo.co.uk/en_gb/search?cgid=nintendo-switch-oled-model
argos has also added the red and blue one back onto the site
I wonder if the other European My Nintendo stores will also have pre-orders for the Switch OLED. (They do sell current models)
I finally crumbled and pre-ordered mine. Black and white (as I'm a hull fc fan). Gonna 'treat' my missus to my oem switch so she can finally stop moaning about not being able to play her lite on the tv 😀
@The_New_Butler yeah I have noticed that as well. I have had a pre-order cancelled, and although I have an email from them confirming the order is cancelled, it is still showing in my order list as “processing”.
But getting that cancellation was an absolute ball ache
What I really need is a OLED XL!!
Screen still too small for small text (meant for tv screen in most cases) for thee dyin' eyes!
I have no issues reading text on 3DS Xl, but with Switch I can not play many games in portable mode.
I think nintendo is waiting for a more powered switch because of the chip shortages?
At first i was really dissapointed in Nintendo, but i cooled down a bit lol. I really want more amazing games from them. And to do a better job with the Retro games nes snes GBA and n64. Just hire those emulator experts lol.
The best time to buy a switch now. Bigger vibrant handheld screen, ethernet, kickstand and brilliant games library. I have pre ordered the white OLED model and shall finally put my wii u to rest.
Is there anywhere left to pre-order in the U.S.? What's the best advice ya'll can give for getting one on release day? Will there be any available? Asking for a friend, lol.. Thx
i got my preorder because 1. I want to support Nintendo during the global raw material shortage 2. I'm upgrading from a lite 3. I'm terrified of being left out of the polarity that the oled will create among multidimensional social spheres.
Important tip for anyone trying to place orders on the My Nintendo UK Store.
For some reason on my end, debit card payments always fail when trying to place an order on desktop, regardless of which browser is used.
But the issue disappears when placing orders using an Android mobile device with Chrome browser.
Good luck ordering a Switch OLED.
You may want to consider grabbing the official carry case too, it will include a screen protector designed especially for the new SWOLED model.
Metroid Dread Special Edition is also currently in stock if you are still hunting that.
https://store.nintendo.co.uk/en_gb/metroid-dread-special-edition-P00069.html
It comes with a bonus poster set, sticker sheet, and keychain.
@Grumble Yeah I don't think that will be happening. Haha. We are the land of the bot shoppers etc.
Currently not only do I not have enough money budgeted to buy this even if I did I would probably just pay an extra 100 and buy a steam deck, not saying it's not worth it though
I canceled my pre-order. The screen would be nice, as would the LAN port (and the beautiful new aesthetics of the system), but I just can’t justify the leap when my launch Switch is still humming right along. Hoping they develop something in the future that justifies an upgrade for me! It would be nice to have a lot of extra storage on the system as well as a RAM boost.
Really love being based in NA and clicking on this bumped article every week only to be disappointed to find that there are only preorder stock updates in the UK. There haven’t been preorders available in the states since minutes after preorders first went live. At first I blame lazy people at NintendoLife but now it’s just self inflicted insanity and disappointment.
I caved and pre-ordered one from GAME as I had just under £200 in store credit and just paid the balance. Gonna keep one Switch upstairs and one downstairs, as I haven't got the heart to sell my launch day Switch lol
Can I preorder the Nintendo switch oled on Amazon UK
For delivery to US? Has anyone else done this?
I have a White OLED preordered via Gamestop but will be in NYC at launch so looking to get the Red/Blue variant from Nintendo NYC. They tweeted about opening a reservation system for launch day to purchase the consoles, metroid dread and the amiibo pack between 8am-11am before the store opens to the general public at 11am. Gonna try my luck to get a reservation
For hose living in the UK, I would recommend to pre order it from AO.com . I am surprised that it isn't mentioned at all on the retailers list as, not only it is sold for £309.00 instead of £309.99, but a £10 voucher can be used for your first order if you order £300 or more. If you already have an account with them, simply create a second account with a different email address, same post address and it works. You'll get it for £299.00 instead of £309.99 . I've purchased multiple fournitures from them and never had an issue. Great website.
Can someone elaborate for me on why the white OLED is $50 more expensive than the standard OLED?
@Porky,
Are they not the same price, unless you mean the standard not OLED Switch console.
@johnvboy Thanks. What confused me was the white OLEDs in the UK listings but the reason was the games paired with them.
@Porky,
Just unboxed the White version, very nice looking console, the screen seems huge.
@LimitedTime Yes you can, you'll receive exactly the same Switch but with a different wall connector, so if you don't have any USB-C to Wall for Switch connector get a cheap one from amazon. (Check the charger to accept 15V/2.6A)
Or
Just get a UK to USA Plug adapter. (Works perfect too)
It is now quite an adventure to get an Oled (in the UK). My initial AO.com order was delayed for 3 weeks just 2 days before release date so I decided to cancel it. Managed to get an Argos order which was cancelled minutes later. The same with Currys: wasn't able to process the payment after managing to add one in my cart. On Friday (release date): tried to get one to collect with Smyths: again, stock shown as available but impossible to process the payment. Then, tried my luck with Asda, 2 orders successfully processed cancelled about an hour later. I then tried my luck on Nintendo Store website, was out of stock, refreshed the page every 5mn, and finally was able to process the order around 5pm. Received it yesterday 11am, so about 18h later! I am literally impressed with Nintendo Store. Super fast delivery, able to track it from A to Z. Will definitely order with them again! I feel lucky as it is now almost impossible to get one anywhere in the UK. It is now pirates land with all the damn scalpers selling them for minimum 350£.
@Kynwal Update: I purchased an OLED Switch (white model) today. GameStop down the street had one more left, and I ran up to purchase it! Loving it so far. I know I seem like I'm going back on what I said, but I was afraid of supply chain issues and holiday sales (empty shelves) so I went ahead and bit the bullet, lol. So far it gets an A++!
@Grumble Nice! I am sooo tempted to try and find a white model. But then I worry about it losing that white sheen with age and use. Fingers being oily things and all.
@Kynwal What I do to remedy that situation is wash my hands before using my Switch jk haha I hear ya. I just got a case for it from Best Buy since they made the new OLED Switch a millimeter longer, older accessories don't fit. (Argh.) New cases are like $20. But yes, I hear you... I do like the white color, though, it looks a little less childish and more premium. Def feels heavier in the hand and much larger than my lite!
@Grumble Haha. I was expecting a comment like that back. You did not disappoint. It may come down to which ever model I can find in stock - but I will go with the White model if there is any choice.
@Kynwal hahah, for sure. I had luck yesterday so hit up the gamestops and have them call a nearby store if they are out , worked for me . You can aLos change out the joy cons to a different color the old ones work too
