
Welcome to our complete story walkthrough of Super Mario RPG on Nintendo Switch and SNES.
After recovering Mallow's coin from Croco at Bandit's Way, you’ve just headed back to the Mushroom Kingdom to take care of business. But wait – something’s wrong! The entire town is dark and overrun by enemies.
The main "quest" of Super Mario RPG starts here and in this guide, we'll be taking you through your second trip to the Mushroom Kingdom, the enemies, and how to defeat the boss that lies ahead.

Mushroom Kingdom Enemies
Shymore / Shyster
Just one new enemy, here: a Shy Guy on a pogo stick! They’re a little bit troublesome with their Drain attack, but will still go down to two of Mario’s attacks.
Return to Mushroom Kingdom Walkthrough
When you return to the Mushroom Kingdom, you'll spot the Shymore enemies immediately. With the town overrun by enemies, there are a few Toads to rescue! And some will give you rewards.
Where to rescue the Toads
Toad #1
In the bottom-right corner of the Mushroom Kingdom, just south of where you enter, there is a Toad being attacked by a Shymore. Defeat it, and as it turns out, the wallet that Croco dropped belonged to this Toad. Return it to its rightful owner to receive a Flower Tab.

Toad #2
Directly east of the blue Toad is another in need of rescue. Head across the town and defeat this Shymore to receive 10 coins. The pink toad standing in front of the Shymore doesn’t offer any reward
Toad #3
Continue into the house on the left, and inside, you'll spot a family of Toads under attack! Defeat the two Shymores inside and then head upstairs to find one more. Defeat this one and you’ll receive another Flower Tab as a reward.

After this, stop by the item shop and restock on healing items if you want.
Toad #4
After grabbing some items, head to the castle. Shymores are everywhere here, too!
In the main hall, a Toad is being chased by a Shymore. Defeat it to save him, though you won't get a reward for this one. If you head right and go through a door, you'll see another Toad cowering in the corner near the bed. Talk to him to receive a Wake Up Pin, and then return to the vault from earlier to receive all three items a second time (including a full heal).

Toad #5
Return to the main hall and then enter the leftmost room to find a Toad and two Shymores. Defeat them both, go up the stairs, and then walk between the two Shymores to start another battle. As a reminder, you can use Mallow’s Thunderbolt attack to deal damage to multiple enemies at once. Enter the door to receive a Flower Tab. Remember to save the game here.
While you’re here, speak to the Toad next to the bed to heal yourself. From there, make your way to the Chancellor’s throne room. Inside, you’ll be attacked by Claymorton and four Bodyguards. Get ready for a boss battle!

Boss - Claymorton / Mack
We've fought a few boss battles before Claymorton, but this is the hardest boss. If you know what you're doing, he isn't too bad, though.
If you are struggling, we have a comprehensive guide on How To Defeat Claymorton. Once you manage to beat him, you'll be rewarded with your first Star Piece.
After a conversation with the Chancellor, Mallow says that you should go and visit his grandfather for advice on the Star Piece. Leave the castle and return to the item shop and exchange Mallow’s previously stolen coin! You’ll receive a Cricket Pie from the shopkeeper.
Stock up on healing items if you need any, because you’re headed to the Kero Sewers next.
