How do you start the post-game in Super Mario RPG?
It's pretty straightforward. Once you roll credits on Super Mario RPG, you'll be asked to save your game, which will be marked with a 'Cleared' star.
Save it wherever you want, and then the next time you load the game up on that save, you'll wake up in Mario's Pad.
Is there a post-game in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars on SNES?
No, there isn't. All of the new content has been added to the Switch version. However, you can at least go back and play all of those minigames. And, if you haven't beaten Jinx or the superboss, you can take those on, too.
What can you do in Super Mario RPG's post-game?
There are a handful of new things you can do in the post-game of Super Mario RPG, all linked together by a little quest. Plus, you can revisit all of those minigames you unlocked, too.
Listen to some music
After you've beaten Super Mario RPG, you'll have a new option in Journal section of your menu — the Sound Player.
The Sound Player allows you to listen to all of the music in the game — both from the SNES and the Switch version. And it's all rather beautiful.
Check your records
Another new option in your Journal is the Play Report, which is a record of all of your achievements in Super Mario RPG, including your high scores in the minigames, how many times you've jumped consecutively, and how long you've been playing.
Complete the Monster List
After beating the game, you'll get a little notification which tells you that any '???' monsters have now been unlocked in the Monster List, but that doesn't mean you'll have filled out everything.
That means you can explore the world and use Mallow's Thought Peek to fill in the blanks and get 100% of the deets on every enemy in Super Mario RPG. Or you can use Frog Coins to buy them from an NPC at Land's End.
Stay at the Marrymore Hotel Suite
When Mario wakes up from his dream, Toad gives him a Stay Voucher, which lets him stay at the Marrymore Hotel suite for free.
Once in the suite, you can play around in the hotel room, buy Pick Me Ups or Croaka-Colas, or take a shower. Go to bed, however, and you'll get a cutscene, which will prompt you to go on a trip to Star Hill.
Fight the post-game bosses
Star Hill is where you'll get your first hint of these, but going back to the Frog Sage reveals that some characters might be up to something...
Taking his hints, as well as the Pink Star wishes, as suggestions, you can rematch multiple bosses from the main game, and they're a lot tougher than before. if you want to take any of them on, check the post-game section of our All Bosses list to find the best strategies.
To fight any of them, however, you must have defeated every single boss in the game, including Jinx and the superboss. There's also a final, final challenge waiting after you've defeated them all.
Defeat the superboss
If you haven't done so yet, a secret boss is hiding in Monstro Town that's much tougher than the final boss of the game. Beating him is likely the last hurdle between you and fighting the post-game bosses. It's also a good test because an even tougher boss is waiting at the end of the post-game.
To find out how to unlock this fiendish fight, as well as how to beat him, check out our guide. There are spoilers here, of course, so if you don't want to know, then don't look!
Find Grate Guy's Casino
If you haven't unlocked the casino, it's worth doing, as you can get one of the best items in the game here. Grate Guy's Casino is home to three different mini-games.
This is pretty easy to miss, so make sure you look at our How To Unlock Grate Guy's Casino guide if you're struggling.
Play the minigames
There's a whole host of minigames you can unlock throughout Super Mario RPG, and you can play them as many times as you want — as long as you have the coins, in some cases.
Midas River, Goomba Thumping, Mushroom Derby, the Sky Bridge, and Scale the Cliff can all be played for Frog Coins. Beetle Mania is just for fun, but it's incredibly addictive — find out how to unlock it in our Beetle Mania guide. And Booster Hill is a good way to make money.
