I like to be involved in the action, rather than watching it. RPGs usually put me to sleep. You can call me stupid, but it's just my opinion.
"involved" as you use it is arbitrary. i don't think reflex gaming is involved the way I think strategy rpging is. I prefer seeing the time I put into the game develop the game itself, rather than starting over every single time i power on the console.
For whatever reason I guess the current console market prefers the former to the ladder. But I mean, the most popular video game to date is an RPG, so it's not like there's no potential for the genre.
we have a lot of great rpgs ff1 breath of fire 2 shinning force 1,2 secret of mana ogre battle phantasy star 1-4 Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars paper mario Beyond Oasis Sword of Vermilion Shining in the Darkness Landstalker Ys Book I & II maybe we haven't gotten much lately because we gotten 80% of them made with vc and non vc wii is the top system for rpgs
[anomalous[i know spelled wrong] member] so feenie bet you never got lucky in chat [feenie] ya [tbd] green gabe [feenie] yup i almost drowned in the shower afterwards
I played a RPG game called "Lufia 2 Rise of the Sinistrals" on a emulator once. It seemed like a good game,so I hope it gets released on VC sometime.
I hear its amazing when the famous purple stuffed worm in flap-jaw space with the tuning fork does a raw blink on hari-kiri rock!!! I NEED SCISSORS!!! 61!!!
The SNES had lots of RPGs that aren't available yet. Games we could still get: Lufia & the Fortress of Doom Lufia II Final Fantasy IV Final Fantasy Mystic Quest (largely hated, but it's not bad for a beginner RPG. And the music alone is worth a download.) Final Fantasy VI Secret of Evermore Secret of the Stars (I don't think it's a terrible game, but most people do because it's almost 8-bit quality) Breath of Fire E.V.O. SoulBlazer Illusion of Gaia/Time Terranigma Robotrek 7th Saga (though the English version is much harder than it should've been) Would list EarthBound, but it's been said before that is in legal limbo because of the music.
Not sure what's possible on NES If not for the EB music issue, NoA would have to be insane to not release Mother 1 since they've been holding a translated copy for 18 years. Destiny of an Emperor - licensing? The Dragon Quest games Willow Gargoyle's Quest II (although I guess it's more of an action game than an RPG) Crystalis My guess is there wasn't more NES RPGs because it was a niche market and publishers didn't want to spend their 5-games-per-year quota. NES game unlikely to appear: Faria, Magic of Sheharazad, Little Ninja Brothers (and the sequel Super Ninja Boy for SNES), Battle of Olympus (not sure if anyone in particular owns Broderbund's IP), Legend of the Ghost Lion (any Kemco IP on VC?), the Ultima games (I think EA owns the IP, and they haven't supported VC), Might & Magic, Bard's Tale, AD&D (there's probably someone who would WANT Heroes of the Lance )
The best Sega Genesis Rpgs outside Y's3 were already released on the vc. Neo Geo CD have a Rpg called Samurai Shodown Rpg, but it wasn't translated to English.
There is a couple Rpgs on the Turbo CD that could haven't been release yet and shouldn't have any trademark issues or 3rd party problems They are: Dragon Slayer: The Legend of Heroes, and Y's III: Wonder's from Y's.
Here are the rpgs that might have potential problems from the Turbo CD that may not may it to the VC:
Cosmic Fantasy 2 - Working Designs no longer exists and Telenet of Japan no longer exists. Exile & Exile Wicked Phenomenon- they are Action rpgs, but Wroking Designs and Telenet of Japan no longer exists. Might & Magic III: Isles of Tera - Ubisoft owns the name of the series now and they didn't support the vc yet.
The Sega Master has some rpgs that wasn't released on the vc yet based off what Gamefaqs called an rpg:.
Dragon Crystal Golden Axe Warrior - it is not a true rpg though. It is a Legend of Zelda style game. Golvellius: Valley of Doom - not is a true rpg. It is more of an action game. Miracle Warriors: Seal of the Dark Lord - Phantasy Star style game that is weaker than Phantasy star. Spellcaster - it is more of an action game than an rpg.
The C64 had a lot Rpgs back in it's day, but the question is how many of them can be put on the vc due to who owns the rights to them. Epyx used to make rpgs for the C64 like Temple of Apshai,The Sword of Fargoal for an example but I don't know if System 3 picked up the rights to them.
I think they just don't want people to build up a large backlog of RPGs and not have any time to buy other games. I know I only have 2 or 3 VC RPGs, neither of which have been beaten yet, and I'd rather I start beating some of my VC games before I start buying more. With FF4 on the horizen, I know I'm gonna have to kick it into high gear pretty soon.
