While most of the games I bought either because I missed out on them as a kid or because they seem interesting, there are a few games I bought out of nostalgia reasons. One of them is Sonic Chaos.
I had it for the Game Gear. When I heard that Master System games were coming to the Virtual Console, I was ecstatic. Finally, I'd be able to play all the old GG games again. Sonic Chaos still brings back memories of lugging that wonderful system and its potato-sized battery pack wherever I went. I hope they release more SMS games like Columns.
I also bought Cruisin' USA, a game I was addicted to as a kid when it was in arcades. Sadly, it hasn't aged well. The cars look like flat cardboard cutouts and the people look like bad photographic renderings. The controls are too sensitive. Maybe a WiiWare remake using the Wheel would be better.
I got Street Fighter II because I played it endlessly as a kid on a classmate's SNES and in arcades, but somehow never got it. I chose The New Challengers because it had the most characters (I couldn't care less which one I play, since when I was a kid any version was "Street Fighter II" and nothing more). The game is still as fun as back then.
Super Mario Bros., Pac-Man, Super Smash Bros., Mario Kart 64, Mario Golf, and Pokemon Puzzle League. Out of those, I never play Puzzle League or Mario Golf anymore, Super Mario Bros. and Pac-Man are more for friends, Smash Bros. is okay, and Mario Kart 64 is even better than I remember thanks to the Gamecube controller
Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. - 1 Corinthians 10:31 (NKJV)
hmm, you mean bought SOLELY for nostalgia, and not to actually play again or anything like that? i mean, thats a little different, but i think i know what you mean in either case.
Most of the games i bought on the VC i already played in some form, but since downloading them, i do play a lot of them very often. A game i got solely for nostalgia was the first Ecco the Dolphin game. I play the sequal sometimes, but the first one i loved as a kid, and not all its doing is occupying a slot on my Wii menu screen. Castelian (Tower Toppler) is probably another one i would put in this catagory, as i haven't touched it since i got it, but loved it as a kid.
Everything else i got i had every intention of actually playing when buying them.

Mother 3 fan. It's an amazing game. 糸井さん、こんな素敵なゲームを作ってくれてありがとう!
So ends a saga older than time itself. The World's oldest and fiercest army has been led to victory, and a lost generation is delivered from its fear of extinction. As the sun sets over the field of conflict the dinosaurs disperse, hoping never to set foot in this place a...
One I bought strictly for nostalgia would be Super Smash Bros. I mean, its a fantastic game, but it's obsolete with the much better titles, Melee and Brawl in the series. I will admit though, that a few nights ago, I couldn't sleep, so I played a few sessions of SSB and it was still a blast to this day.

I bought TMNT on NES for nostalgia. Not nearly as good as I recall, but not nearly as bad as people say. I also bought Metroid on NES for nostalgia, but that game is really bad compared to the other Metroid games.
And I bought Bubble Bobble for nostalgia. But, unlike the other two, that game is DAMN good.
The best strategy in the game: go up stairs and pause balls.
To many to list really but here are a few 1. Super Castlevania IV - my favorite SNES game by far 2. All of the Streets of Rage games- the series that made me so happy to be a Sega Genesis owner 3. Super Mario Bros. 2 - my parents got me the NES cartridge for Christmas. It lived up the hype. 4. Fatal Fury- great memories of playing this on the Genesis and the Neo Geo cabinet at the beach.
Probably at least half or more of my VC purchases have been for nostalgia/collection/posterity. Bascially recreating my NES collection from days of yore.
The only one really that was for nostalgia would be Streets of rage 2. I played the game to death as a kid. I tend to use the VC for games I've never played, imports or games I only played briefly in the past.Funny thing is though ,is that SoR2 is one of my most played VC games, its still as awesome today!
I've bought quite a few that I owned before but wanted to play again, but the only game I bought solely for the nostalgia kick was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for the NES.
Lots of Arcade titles I've purchased for nostalgia reasons and not because I think they're brilliant (or rather I do think they're brilliant, but I acknowledge that this perception is filtered through rose-tinted lenses). Moon Cresta immediately comes to mind.
INHALE/ I've been slowly building up a collection of games on my Wii (and I have to admit, majority of games I own are digital downloads), with around 80 of them being VC. Some of my games I'd never tried before and wanted to see what they were like, but most are ones I'd played in the past and wanted to take for another spin (and needless to say, nearly all of them are by Nintendo!), so I get a huge boost of nostalgia whenever I play them ("Oh crud! I forgot that I have to get past these guards to get to Princess Zelda!" "Ha! Take that, gigantic clam-like bio-weapon! Aquas is saved once again!" "Heh heh heh...you're about to lose that star, Klepto...because I'M-A GONNA JUMP ON YOUR FEATHER-FLECKED HIDE!" "Ah...the memories of clobbering a giant hamster to get a single giant banana..." "Ha ha ha ha ha! Mario has a big nose and a moustache that looks like sunglasses! And his eyes are so huge, he looks like he just saw Bowser munch on a Toad! _ ") However, I'd still like to see some more of my favourites in the Wii Shop Channel, like Yoshi's Island, Starwing, Mario Party, Mario Party 2, Mario Party 3...and so on. And where the Klepto's-flecked-feathers are my old favourites from the Game Boy era? Don't even get me started on THAT list! I sure hope that we get a GB-VC service on the 3DS! In conclusion, most of my VC games are partly for nostalgic purposes. /EXHALE
