Are Mega Man 2 and Super Metroid really difficult platformers? I'd like to get a good VC platformer that isn't ridiculously difficult. I like a challenge but not frustration.

Than Mega Man 2 is for you. The other Mega Man games for download on wii are all tougher.

If you want a lengthy quest, I suggest super Metroid however. You'll get a lot of stuff for just 300 points extra. simply on of the VC's finest titles.

super metroid is challenging, but you wont send your face through a brick wall playing it. megaman 2, however.... well, let's just say this is what serial killers are made of.

Super Metroid is easy the first Metroid however is a deferring story.

It goes without saying, but if you want a good platformer on the VC, then look no futher than Super Mario Bros - Lost Levels - II - III - World - 64.

Alex Kidd In Miracle World is more than worth a download as well. Quality little game that is.

No, none of the two are particularly hard. MM2 is the harder of the two, though.

Once you know how to use your weapons effectively, Mega Man 2 becomes much easier.

Is Metroid a Platformer??? Anyway If you want a quality platformer with a fair difficulty curve then you can't go wrong with DoReMi Fantasy (SNES), beautiful to look at to. Get it you won't regret it unless you don't like it of course, but don't come crying to me!

What's this bit for again?

I definitely second that recommendation! DRMF is definitely worth a purchase.

if you really wanted to decide between both of them, i'd say go with mega man 2, its super fun, has a special charme and is just so muc fun overall you'll spend quite a lot of time replaying it.

If you are searching for the finest platformers of the service in general i'd say check out Donkey Kong Country 2, Mario bros 3 or Super Mario World/64

If you want...

Extreme amount of content + somewhat hard difficulty: Super Metroid

A bloody hard game + to hear the most epic gaming music EVAR: Megaman 2

Super Metroid isn't very hard, it's one of the easier SNES games and not quite as hard as the Mega Man's.
I like Super Metroid more.. yeah, the music of Mega Man 2 is good but I wouldn't call it epic. The music in Super Metroid is epic!

And speaking of epic, Super Metroid is fantastic. The Mega Man's are just short little challenges.

I recommend Super Metroid over any Mega Man game any day. It's a must-play! And one of the best action-adventures ever made.

And on another note: I recommend all Mega Man's over the NES-Metroid.

are u kidding? sometimes knowing where to go next in Super Metroid is really difficult...plus I always seem to get stuck in a location I can't backtrack myself out of. I think Super Metroid is OK if you have a guide letting you know where to go, but otherwise it is difficult to clear. I got trapped so many times it's sad.

Well backtracking in Super Metroid isn't so bad. You might go have to wander for a long time but it's at least semi-enjoyable to do so.
In Mega Man 2, however, dying at the same disappearing platform puzzle for the 63rd time makes you want to pull your hair out.

Def. get Super Metroid. Then at some point get the Mega Man collection. It comes with Mega Man 1-8 and it's like $20.

No, actually those games are rediculously easy(once you know what to do, which usually doesn't take too long. Just remember to take on Metal Man in Mega Man 2 first, so you can get the metal blades). And they happen to be incredibly good. A winning combination in my book.
