Topic: VC Milestones

As far as I can remember, there have been only two "milestone" games that Nintendo has acknowledged on the North American Virtual Console (please correct me if I am forgetting any):
Zelda II (100th game)
Super Mario RPG (250th game)

There has been a lot of talk lately about Majora's Mask being the 300th game (we have 295 now). I think this is likely considering it is out in Europe, Australia, and Japan and since it hasn't come to North America for the past two weeks when it could have. Now to get to the point, I don't care at all about these milestones. I wish Nintendo would just release games as soon as they're ready instead of holding them back and waiting for arbitrary numbers. I'm going to buy the games that I want and ignore the games that I don't want - I don't care if it's game number 300 or 317 - it makes absolutely no difference to me.

I would understand withholding a title until a sequel is released to build up hype (done at least twice so far) or for a holiday or something of the sort. But these "milestones"? I don't get the point of it either, Edwin. I mean, it doesn't bother me. I am not impatient, I can wait as long I need to, but it does seem pointless.

If North America gets one game a week for the next two weeks and the 300th does fall on May 18, that marks 30 months (minus one day) since the Wii was launched. 30 months...300 games...a nice round number average of 10 games per month. I recently emailed Nintendo to complain about the recent lack of VC games and they defended themselves by saying that they have released an average of 10 games per month. Now why would they have this statistic on hand if it wasn't significant?

Obviously the average number of games per month was a lot higher during the Wii's first year. So I don't think Nintendo would be very proud of the 10 games per month average now. In the past several months the average number of VC games per month has been well below 10. Hopefully after this milestone Nintendo will turn over a new leaf and bring that average back up again.

I doubt it. Early on, VC was all they had on offer, so it seemed like we were getting a lot. But now they have three services, VC, WW, DSiW, and the amount of games per month is still about 10 VC/WW (or more if you include DSiW), so they are still delivering a lot of content per month, just not the games we want, unfortunately.

Actually, I think we're at 298 VC now.

I said 295 three weeks ago.

They release 10 downloadable games a month, about. While we perceive it as a drop in VC games per month, Nintendo sees it as a stable release schedule of downloadable games, just that now they are split between two services on the same console.

The average is 10 VC games a month, from Wii's launch until now. WiiWare is not part of that average.

We all know what our 300th VC game should be

Yes, & that should definately 100% be Zelda Majora's Mask... (don't hurt me)!

For The Record:
#50 = Kirby's Adventure
#100 = Zelda II
#150 = SMB: Lost Levels
#200 = Lords Of Thunder
#250 = SMRPG
#300 = Super Smash Bros. (I wish!)

Kid Icarus and Ice Climber could also be #50
Sin and Punishment could also be #150
Harvest Moon could also be #200

I don't remember, did Nintendo make an announcement specifically saying that the games you listed were the milestones? I know they did for Zelda II and SMRPG, but what about Kirby's Adventure, Lost Levels, and Lords of Thunder?

Ya, I thought Harvest Moon was #200, I remember someone talking about it on the Harvest Moon thread. #300 could be one of the other milestones that Nintendo won't care about and release something surprising.

I bet you $0.50 that the 350th Virtual Console game will be SSB.

Adam

I'll take that bet. We can settle this through PayPal.

It was Rondo of Blood. Ten games ago. But it feels like its been out for a long time now.

What will be America's 400th game?

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

StarBoy91

@Bass - it should be SoulBlazer. Someone should remind Square-Enix that they do not only hold the rights to the SquareSoft games, but the Quintet/Enix games as well. I mean, ActRaiser (a Quintenix title) has been around the VC for over three years now. You would've thought that other Quintenix titles would've followed it, but nooooo!

To each their own

Yoshi's Island should be the 400th game. Actually, if it was released earlier, that would be even better! Earthbound would work, too.

I'm back (for the moment)!
