I was just thinking about this game today. I'd absolutely love it if this game was released on the VC arcade.
Anyone else know what game I'm talking about? Any other fans?
For those that aren't familiar:
It was a lot like Dig Dug meets Pac Man. You had bad guys chasing you, and you had cherries to collect.
You had a ball you could use as a weapon that would ricochet around the stage, and you could crush enemies like you could in Dig Dug by digging under things to make them drop.
You could complete a stage by either: killing all of the baddies, collecting all of the cherries, or by collecting the letters "EXTRA" to get an extra life.
One thing that was really crazy is that this game actually reward you with FREE CREDITS if you collected hidden diamond in the game. Yes--an arcade game that gave you free credits...not just free lives. I thought only pinball games did that!
They've been releasing some other old arcade titles, and Mr. Do was a 1982 release. Well...guess I'll just cross my fingers
Mr. Do is on my all-time favorite list. I play the ColecoVision version (which is a very faithful port) constantly, as well as the arcade version on MAME. I would buy it in a second if it was on VCA. I wonder if there's a reason why it's not; i thought it was a fairly popular/well-known game from its time.
I was introduced to it on the Colecovision. It was probably my favorite game on that system when I was growing up. Oh, along with Zaxxon and Burgertime!!
The game was originally released by Universal. The rights are held by Aruze. IIRC, they're a Japanese company in Nevada that deal in gambling machines.
It's probably not on the VC since it's not on a compilation disc somewhere. It seems every VC game other than Nintendo and the TG-16 are just games that are already out on other systems on retro game collections (especially SEGA, that's why I won't pay 800 points for their crap).
I am the one you despise. I am he who says what you really deep down know but are affraid to admit. I am the Anti-Fanboy, the crusader of truth in a world built on your lies.
It's nice to meet you, Uncle Rick. Anyway, not only have I played Mr. Do!, I also played this one Super Pierrot (which I believe to be a clone of another Mr. Do! game) on MAME32 (back when I still had it). The original Mr. Do! arcade game was also made available on the SNES. Ain't that cool?

Oh look whats coming out in April 2010 for Japan! More Neo Geo and Mr. Do!
What are the chances that this arrives in NA and EU?
Don't know. I think Hamster Co. is Japan-only, so I wouldn't expect anything they're releasing to appear outside of Japan. Really an overseas entity would need to renew local publishing rights and it may not be easy to figure out who owns those - the fact that they're appearing in Japan is encouraging, because it means at least there's some kind of audit trail!

I nominate Aksys games to take on this responsibility. Besides it will give them something other than Family games to release.
I'm really getting annoyed that Nintendo of Japan is keeping all of these VC titles exclusive to the Japanese VC while EU and NA don't even know week to week if we will even get a VC game.
