I own a Wii (4 year old console) with games stored on hard drives. Whenever I've gotten the below error message in the past (see link below), it has been because the hard drive was plugged into the wrong USB port.
However, I'm still getting this message, even with the USB plugged into either port. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can fix this? Many thanks.
I though only certain dubious methods were available to put Wii games in a hard drive...
and if I'm not wrong about being through those methods it means we can't talk about those thing around NL.
but I might be wrong.

Not that I'm aware of. I thought that was part of the reason why Wii installed USB ports. Part of why hard drives work well is that you don't have to worry about scratching your discs.
I did nothing dubious or illegal. Just trying to figure out why I'm getting this crazy error message. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
@stshafer I'm sorry to rain on your parade but you ARE doing something illegal. The Wii was not designed for the use of USB Hard Drives. You are not storing games in your HDD by installing them or downloading in digital form after paying for them like you could on XB360 or PS3, you are copying the data of games and using an unauthorized workaround on your Wii to read them of an HDD. Most of us at this forum don't modify and that crazy error is probably because the hack you made (or someone made for you) is buggy or you updated the firmware to the official one. That's the risk of tampering with the system, you might need to buy a new one because it's probably broken. The solution I can think of is that you reset your console, since you haven't used the Shop because you download from unofficial sites and don't pay, you won't lose anything. After that, do an OFFICIAL update from the Wii settings screen and after that, hack it again at your own risk.
The reason for which the Wii (not the WiiU) had USB was for the use of keyboards and other official peripherals, but the firmware never allowed the use of external storage media rather than the SD cards. The only games that can be loaded out of external storage (SD Cards) are WiiWare and VC titles your console is entitled for.
Unfortunately, the Wii was not designed to use hard drives legally. Due to our community rules, we're gonna ask you to take your question elsewhere. If you have any questions about our rules, feel free to use our contact form.
