I think it would be cool, just because VC RPGs, such as Phantasy Star, offer a lot of replay value for a relatively cheap price.
I'm aware of FF4: After Years, but my problem with it is that it's too expensive when you get all the DLC. Or maybe I just don't like Final Fantasy very much...

Since by the time they're long enough to be worth it, they might as well sell it as a retail title on DS. Games like that are more fitting for the DS anyway.

Grotesque Tactics: Evil Heroes is an RPG that has been announced for WiiWare, but I haven't heard anything about it the past year. I don't when it will be released or if they are going to release it.

I strongly disagree. I enjoy playing RPGs on the big screen far more than on the DS. I really wish we could get some more $10-15 RPGs on the WiiWare service. I'd snap 'em up day one.

I was thinking more from a business perspective. By the time the company has spent that much money on a title to make it worthwhile, chances are it would make more money on the DS. It's why there are so many RPG's for the system.

I've gotten pretty used to playing RPGs on the NDS, and actually prefer it now. The games are typically so long in duration that it's nice to have a portable system to make it more convenient to play. YMMV, but I actually like most RPGs on the NDS. Games like Baldur's Gate (for the PS2) wouldn't work on the NDS (not for me at any rate) but the 16-bit RPGs work wonderfully.

I think it would be cool if they could do some shorter WiiWare RPGs for those of us with attention deficit issues. I always seem to quit most RPGs about halfway through because I'm ready to move on and play something new and different. I like RPG gameplay and I often enjoy the storylines, but I would love a short story done in RPG form rather than an epic novel. The GBA version of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, while hardly a stunning RPG, was decent, short, and fun while it lasted. It was very easy and was no match for Final Fantasy or Secret of Mana, but it was good for someone like me who is pretty casual about RPGs.
Moco Loco If you find yourself spiritually drifting (as I was for far too many years), remember that Jesus can and will walk across the water to reach you and bring you back to shore.

I agree. My main issue is the non-linearity of most RPGs... I just don't have time to play these open plan, exploratory games. I'd love to play through a two or three hour JRPG with no grinding or side quests. It'd need a good story and battle system, obviously.
Yes, but if we get a WiiWare RPG it has probably retro graphics. Games like My Life as a King & Darklord take up almost the maximum 320 blocks. The size of a RPG is big compared with other games.

Have you checked out The After Years? Whilst there's an overarching storyline each chapter has it's own little story and characters and the middle chapters are cheap. In fact I think if they were completely separate games then people wouldn't complain about the price.

Currently Grotesque Tactics (a fun SRPG like Fire Emblem) is looking for a Wii Retail Publisher. I think one problem is the 40 MB limit size. (PC version has 400 MB )
I think it would be cool to have an rpg for wiiware where instead of having set maps there would be a random dungeon creator. In addition, there should be online co-op and duel modes, along with weekly quests and that sort of thing.

There's a game called Dungeon Hack (iirc) on the PC that is loosely based on Dungeon's and Dragons. It's strictly a dungeon crawler and I think something like that would be great (and easily transferable) to the Wii Ware platform. I believe it came on four 3.5" discs so my initial guess is that it would fit within the space limitations as well. No multiplayer or anything on-line related, but that could easily be remedied.
