Topic: Super Mario Kart PAL\NTSC (North American) Release...

So as you may have noticed there is a gaping hole in the Virtual Console back catalogue of classic games, namely Super Mario Kart. No SNES Mario Kart? Insanity.

Fair enough if it's some Mode 7 emulation issue or whatever, but it's not... it was released for the Japanese Virtual Console on the 9th of June.

Great I thought, can't be long now before the Yank-PAL release. Nearly 5 months later... nothing.

What are Nintendo playing at? It's a nailed on classic, everyone with any sense would buy it the day it was released, it's got no emulation problems, and it's been months and months since the Japanese release... I mean, do they want our money?

Sometimes I really do struggle to understand the Nintendo strategy. It seems to consist of getting a monkey drunk, then blindfolding it, coating it in honey, and throwing it into a barrel of SNES carts, before pulling it out, and releasing on the VC whatever cart happens to be stuck to it's face.

Anyone have any idea when Super Mario Kart might be released outside of the Japanese VC? And for the love of the tiny, baby Jesus - why the massive delay between releasing a stone cold classic game in the different regions?

Sort it out Nintendo.

Hey it ain't as bad as NA. NOA still refuses to give us SSB.

Jesus is the only way.
It's OK to have an opinion. This ain't the Soviet Union you know.

But we'll all be playing New Super Mario Bros. Wii then...

I'll take Super Mario Kart over NSMB.

Keep in mind Japan has a much larger catalog of old games to release, so they are bound to get some games long before us. For instance, the Fire Emblem series has multiple NES and SNES entries. I'm not sure if all have come out for VC or will come out for VC over there, but in comparison the West has none of those FE games, not receiving the series on our shores until the GBA days. And that's just one series. Not to mention they clearly have much better third-party support (or at least NoJ allows much better third-party support, but that is another topic).

I don't think anything fishy is going on. NoA/NoE are just saving up their few first-party gems left to be spread out evenly across the Wii's remaining years. SMK was OFLC-rated, too, though take that for what it's worth -- after all, Earthbound was ESRB-rated.

Super Mario Kart was, and is, the best racer of all time. It would be great if it was released on VC right away, but, you know how it is; you can't always have everything you want in life. I'll be patient 'til the game it gets released on VC.

To each their own

StarBoy, you are a man after my own heart.

Some say SNES Mario Kart is the best Mario Kart... it is, but that doesn't go far enough.

Some say it's the best Kart game... it is, not far enough.

A few of us know that it is, in fact, still to this day the single most fun racing game of any kind, ever made.

Anyway, yes I know Nintendo will take their time, release a few average games, a few good games, a few terrible games, then almost at random release Mario Kart... I suppose getting used to the quirky, nonsensical Nintendo release schedule is part of the fun.

I expect it's to do with spreading out the remaining first party releases and keeping 3rd parties sweet by giving them priority right now. I'm sure it will be out by the end of the year.
