I've seen quite a few people ask about how the various console ports of Street Fighter II compare to one another so I snapped up some screenshots of the three versions to compare side-by-side. As you can see, the Super Nintendo version is easily the best visually, but the Genesis and PC Engine versions aren't too shabby either and are very similar in style to one another. The PC Engine version seems a little bit sharper in places and the slightly larger color palette probably has a lot to do with that fact.
I owned every version of Street Fighter 2 for SNES and Genesis and Special Champion Edition has always been my favorite. The Sega six button controller was perfect and it had some of the best music that was closest to the arcade. It also had some cool options to tweak the game. You really can't go wrong with any version though. At some point I may download the TG-16 version out of curiosity.
The graphics on all systems look the same, but when I played the Genesis version I immediately noticed the washed out color palette, the cracking lowquality-music and the bad controls.
I preferred the looks and sounds of the SNES version but I do like how you don't have to perform cheats to get things on the Mega Drive version - for instance no faffing about pressing buttons to get 10 stars.
However as good as all these ports are they pale into insignificance next to the mighty Speccy port:
Genesis looks like crap, as usual for the console.
I love the look of the PC Engine one in static shots, and would perhaps put it above the SNES release if considered only on the basis of still images, but the parallax scrolling is gone, so I suppose the SNES version will still remain king (and the Genesis a pauper, as usual).

The graphics are close enough on all three versions. What really matters are the features. The TG-16 version is last by not having any turbo settings. The Genesis version is the winner with its extra characters like Cammy.

yeah, i downloaded the World Warrior version when it first came out because it was the one i had back in the day, and it was one of my favorite games ever... i'm just realy disappointed now to see that there are so many other versions that are identical plus. there's versions like the champion edition where you can play as the bosses, there's the turbos (which i'm not sure if i'd want that, but it would be interesting to try), and then there's versions with the new characters like Cammy and the bunch... it just sucks to realize i have the worst version and either have to deal with it, or buy a better version and have wasted my $8...

If you want Cammy, just go for Super Street Fighter II for the SNES. The original game and the Super version with expanded characters are really distinct games as far as I'm concerned.

Genesis had the better controller for SF the 6 button set up, plus you had the much better D-pad, but since its on VC controls aren't much of an issue, since chances are you'll be using the classic controller for any version, but really wouldn't recommend VC for SF at all, there are compilations of various kinds which are probably a lot cheaper anyway.
I have the SF compilations and HD Remix yet still I downloaded Super SFII on the VC. I was hesitant to do so at first because I already owned the game but since my PS2 and XBOX 360 are downstairs in the main room, I still enjoy playing Super SFII on the VC in my bedroom.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

Oops, I thought the New Challengers was the Genesis version. In that case, the SNES Super version is best.

Megadrive for me, I prefer the music and gritty look. Though... if I really want to play SF2 I would dust of the Saturn and my Japanese copy of Capcom Generations 5. I dont really like Super Turbo, Hyper fighting is my favourite of the versions as I never thought much of the 'new challengers'.
