So stuck shopping with my wife all afternoon (which actually means stuck at the mall taking care of our little girl while she goes shopping), something great happened. Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars on clearance for $10? Sold! I love point and click adventure games, and this classic from the late 90s has long been on my list to play through after an aborted attempt a year or two ago. Although it wasn't worth the initial asking price, finding it in "impulse buy" range was just what I needed to brighten my weekend.
First impressions live up to expectations. The graphics and audio are great considering when the game was made, standing up very well given the age of the source material. The early puzzles have been slick and interesting... there is some trial and error required, but a robust hint system preventing you from getting stuck after missing a small detail somewhere. Most importantly, the story and writing are actually compelling enough to make me want to go back and uncover more!
What was the last game that had you really excited to get home and play? And are there any other point-and-click fans out there?

ejamer's Wife reads this, divorces him and takes the kiddies, leaving ejamer on the prowl.
On Topic: A) Today when Galaxy 2 arrived in the pots (suck it rest of Australia) and B) I just beat Jolly Rover, so yes, I am a point and click fan.
QUEEN OF SASS
It's like, I just love a cowboy
You know
I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!
Last game that had that impact on me was Chocobo Dungeon. Really rare game here in Australia, I saw it second hand for $80 at EB Games, and bought it instantly.
The Wii lacks in RPGs, but Chocobo Dungeon made up for that in itself.
The last game to do that to me was Super Mario Galaxy 2. but i dont mind the car trip home, cuz i just look at the instruction manual and admire the pretty pics XD. i hate black and white manuals

I do this too (not when I'm driving though) and love checking out the manuals. For a while, I thought nobody else looked at them anymore though... seems like making beautiful and interesting game manuals have been lost for most games!
telll me, ive had a big problem playing Broken Sword on the Wii... ive found the Text Font tobe TOO small. was it just me?
The text is still pretty small. Luckily I have a pretty good sized TV that makes text just the right size. Hmm... might be worth checking the options though. Maybe there is a way to improve the text size?
elite beats agent i was sitting at a swap meet with my g-parent when i saw some guys selling some games i only saw 2 or 3 good deals but at first i thought it might be broken since it was new but i finally asked and for 2$ tmnt smash up was another good one as i read the entire manual before i got home and talk about getting me hyped once i finished i was at my door final fantasy 1 and 2 dawn of souls now i only need 4 more and my life be complete
Thanks for reminding me about this one. I'm an old point-and-click fan as well, and have eyed the Broken Sword Wii game quite a few times. Once I get around to finishing the last Monkey Island WiiWare episode, I might have to pick it up.

Sweet deal on Elite Beat Agents!
Also, what's up with TMNT:Smash-Up? That game has such an undeserved stigma attached to it. People wanted all the old cartoon characters to be playable (to be honest, I wanted that too) but then reacted negatively when it didn't meet their roster expectations. But that doesn't change the fact that it's an excellent fighting game. People should judge a game on how it plays, not on what they wish it could've been! One of my favorite "hidden gems" on Wii.
Half of a fighting game is the roster. You get significantly more out of a game if you have a more fleshed out roster rather than the hard-to-distinguish renditions of the turtles and three or four others. None of them seem to have much character. I know it's unfair to say the turtles look alike (though the old cartoon style brings out their differences much better), but it's still makes the roster kind of boring when half of the cast looks the same. They should have brought in more characters. There was a noticeable lack of Bebop and Rocksteady (unless they were unlockable, I just rented the game briefly).
That said, even if it weren't for the roster and style of the characters, I ultimately did judge the game on how it plays, which was really boring for me. That came as a huge disappointment after all the Brawl comparisons because there's game I play to death.
I stand by my opinion. Regardless of what characters you wanted in the roster, the game "as is" does an excellent job to represent the cartoon it was based on. (If only they had replaced the silly Rabbid unlockable characters with anyone from the show it would've been top notch.) Gameplay is fast and fun, and different enough from Brawl to stand on it's own. If you wanted Brawl with dozens of classic TMNT cartoon models then it's no wonder you were disappointed.
I'm a point-and-click fan, I got Myst 10th Anniversary Edition a while ago and I've been playing it nonstop. I hadn't been that excited for a game in a long time.
It's not that I particularly want that; that's ignoring the majority of the post. I certainly wouldn't mind Smash Brothers: TMNT Edition, but I just wanted a good fighting game.
Oh well, wasn't trying to change your opinion, just commenting on where the "stigma" comes from. As for the Brawl comparison, the developers did it to themselves by hyping the fact that they worked on Smash and then adding Smash to the title.
Last Tuesday. Gamestop. Transformers: War for Cybertron.
God the game is beauty on a DVD. None of the half assed on rails nonsense that they made the Wii version to be, just huge robots, tranformable on the fly and a great story (if you enjoy the Transformers mythos) that explains a lot about what happened to Cybertron. I truely love this game.
In fact, a Monday I found Cursed Mountain for $10 at Walmart and I picked it up since I've been interested in it for a while and honestly that was the first time I've seen it in stores, but I still have it in the plastic since I'm hooked on WfC. (As an aside, I think part of the reson games like Cursed Mountain didn't sell well is because other than big name companies, distribution sucks for most 3rd parties).
I am the one you despise. I am he who says what you really deep down know but are affraid to admit. I am the Anti-Fanboy, the crusader of truth in a world built on your lies.
in point and click adventure news, the new kings quest will be coming out july 10 as a free download.
Wanted to put all my replies in a single post... but this deserved a separate shout out! Yay!
WOW ... is it from the original developer?
Not the original developer (which was Roberta Williams, by way of Sierra). The game essentially started out years ago as a fan-made sequel by the same (or some of the same) guys who developed the VGA remakes of the original two games. After much legal threatening, changes to the game to remove specific KQ things and names, they finally have been given a stamp of approval to release it.
HUZZAH! Hope their servers don't crash; i'm so downloading it first chance i get.
When I first got my Wii in Dec. of '07. I went with my dad on a snowy morning to Target and waited in line. When he made that purchase, I was so excited to come home and open it up and play, but he said I had to wait till Xmas. Later that week, I got a giftcard for GameStop, and brought SMG1 and Wii Play, but couldn't play them cause I had to wait till Xmas to open the Wii.
Finally, Xmas came, I ran downstairs, opened my gifts, ran back upstairs and locked myself in my room for hours playing SMG. During the week long wait, I would go to its hiding place under my parents bed, and would stare at the box for hours. lol
