Hi everyone. I´m surprised this weeks about SEGA. They revived the VC and are innovating in the games at the same time. Let´s see:
SSFII (génesis): first game (second in Japan) with online game in a retro game.
Super Hang-on (arcade): first game with motion controllers in a retro game, and first in use of nunchuk.
Monster World IV (génesis): first imported game fully traslated
Sega Arcade games: very clean options: configuration for each type of controller, screen options (normal, complete and original), and a special screen option to simulate retro tv´s. (i´ve seen this in the recent Super Hang-on and Wonder Boy II Arcade).
And we can´t forget the extra options in GameGear games in eshop: like the screen options and color the gamegear appareance in screen pixel by pixel.

in the old Nintendo vs. Sega wars, I have always taken Nintendo's side (despite being a Sonic fan). But with this VC stuff, Sega has been really making them look bad in my opinion.

@Joshers744 I´m agree with you. I love Nintendo but in terms of VC Sega is making them look bad. I think if Sega continued in console war we could saw this and more in their retro catalog.

I personally wish it was still just Nintendo and Sega (though I do like my Xbox ok). Sega is more like Nintendo then Microsoft and Sony (the gaming side of those companies) is in the sake of franchises and characters in my opinion. Nintendo has the obvious greats, like Mario, Zelda, and Kid Icarus (Just to name only a few), and Sega also has some interesting ones, such as Sonic, Golden Axe, Billy Hatcher, etc. I feel like when I think of Sony, all I think of is shooting games....and the occasional trying to copy an idea Nintendo came up with. The Nintendo/Sega days were much more interesting, yet simpler.

If they could get Ranger-X, Wonderboy (arcade), Monster Lair (arcade), Shinobi (Master System), and the Konami Genesis games out there then I'd be blown away.
But yes, it's nice to see them trying so hard.

They do this on the 3ds Vc to with a better way of changing the background for GG games

Now all they have to release is Chakan, Desert/Jungle Strike, Castle/World of Illusion and 32X catalog and that will seal the deal for me. I was always the Sega supporter during the wars and I also seem to go back and play the Megadrive VC more than the SNES. I find the Sega games more challenging than Ninty's. Arcade Monster Land and Monster World IV should be download must haves for retro veterans.

And then there is the ability to play as knuckles in other Sonic games once buying Sonic & Knuckles
And all the Master System Games that originally had the FM Synthesizer feature, have it on VC too! It's like having two different soundtracks for the complete game... such as in Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap and Wonder Boy in Monster Land. And these two games have fantastic tunes. Just evergreens.
So the Dragon's Trap on VC DOES support the FM upgrade? That's great. I had thought it would be removed because some people who tried using a fan-produced FM unit on real western hardware have had difficulty because the FM unit would only try to operate on a Japanese console (though the Japanese SMS version of the game was never released). I know Phantasy Star doesn't, but that's probably only because the western versions deleted the FM sound to free up some space for more text.
I would love to see Sega release Desert Strike for VC! I would buy it in an instant! They had some of the best games at the time of the Mega Drive, but even as we see today they just failed to keep up with Nintendo. Same with most other consoles really. Nintendo leads the way and everyone else follows suit! Still on the note of what we'd like for VC I'd also quickly scoop up Krusty's Funhouse again! Who's with me?
It's a sound chip. It was sold in an add-on box that could be attached to earlier Japanese consoles (known as "Mark III") or was included inside later Japanese consoles (known as "Master System"). Games designed with the chip could use the extra sound channels for a richer sound if it was available. It was never released in any other regions, though the western versions of many of the Japanese-origin games that used it left the code to utilize the chip intact. (only Phantasy Star removed the programming, because they needed more memory for the text)
I'm not sure exactly which games used it, but I think it was nearly all Japanese-developed games made in 1987-1988.
