Is Rondo an essential, day 1 purchase only if you're a Castlevania fan?
Because from what I understand, the pros are mainly that it has exceptional music and graphics.
I bought Super Castlevania IV and it didn't really seem like my kind of game. Is Rondo a flashier, better presented Super Castlevania IV? Because if this is the case, I'll probably skip this one.
If Super Castlevania IV isn't your type of game, what is? Barbies magical Unicorn Adventure? (I'm just kidding with you, I know not every game is for everyone and I'm a huge Castlevania mark lol) It's a great game but if you aren't keen on the Castlevania platformers pre-Symphony of the Night you probably wouldn't miss anything by not getting it. However, as I said it's a great old school platformer, it takes a few things out that SCIV had (like the multi directional whip) but adds branching levels and introduces a lot of the music that we hear now in the DS games. I'd say it's better than SCIV but not by much. Definately worth the 9-10 dollar download, but you can still get your Castlevania fix for less with 1 and 3 if you just want to use the Vampire Killer on some monsters and don't care for the whole storyline involved with the series.

It's out, I've downloaded it and have been playing to for half an hour. I love the graphics, the music, the gameplay and it's really hard, but language wise it's a bloody mess. So far I've seen Japanese text, German voice overs and English langues like stage cleared, Game Over, Save & End. What is going on here?

That was my only complaint with the game. If we are paying extra for them to translate the game, they need to do more than "Start", "Options", "Stage Clear" and "Game Over". I know it's only a buck more, but still, they could use subtitles and it wouldn't have cost them much if anything and little to no time. But then again, they would counter that with "just count yourself loucky you get to play it at all", and I really couldn't argue with them. Still, it would've been nice.

Yeah, is there somewhere a translated script or something? I was in the town and there was a board or sign with japanese language. No idea what it said. I speak a bit of German so the intro wasn't that hard to follow.

Yeah a fair amount of japanese games have some english in them so nothing was translated for the VC release or any other VC release except maybe Sin and Punishment. That extra 100 points is just to be able to play something that was never available in your region. Personally I wish they would be able to translate it or at least give some kind of language option. Its one of those games that should have been localised for other regions but never was except for the psp release.
I don't think the story is hard to follow from what I've seen - looks like Dracula is sacrificing girls or something and you have to stop him. My guess - but then I don't think it's important with this title.
Oh and this game is HARD! Seriously, I had no idea it would be so tough. That's no bad thing, as it's still a lot of fun and you just need to learn a pattern to finish each stage. Just glad is saves your progress - this game would be near impossible if you had to start from the beginning every time!
Well I have Symphony of the Night on the Saturn and you can play through the game as Ritcher on that - I thought he'd be the same considering it's the same sprite, but you don't have his twirly whip or anything making it much tougher.
To beat the Axe Armour I figured out if you get close enough to hit him then attack high when he launches his first axe then low when he launches the second, you'll get both the axe and monster at the same time meaning you don't have to jump the axes. Doesn't always work but more times than not.
