The Nintendo Press Release implies that this a point-and-click adventure game. Is that true? What's this game like?
Ash: Professor Oak, how's your Bulbasaur?
Prof. Oak: Oh, it only hurts when I sit.
...
Prof. Oak: It's only Chansey if Krabby won't let go. Bye, now.
Ash: I don't think I'm going to call him anymore.

I'm interested in this. If you dont mind my asking about what are the ages of the people who like this? It looks very kiddy, but I do like games like Shadowgate and De ja vue (Though i might not have finished the later). I'm well over the age of being a kid, though I may at times act otherwise.)
This was an certantly unexpected time to release this game on the Virtual Console. I thought it would be an Q2 2010 release. Oh well, it should be good to fans who want it.
I've had 4 responses, but none of them have actually answered my question. Somebody describe the gameplay without just listing the genre or comparing it to other games.

I don't know how many people around here have previous experience with this game (I sure don't). Until Brooks83 comes along, you might not get much info here. Therefore, I suggest reading through some of the reviews here. Gotta be SOMETHING useful there, I would think.

I have beaten "Princess Tomato in Salad Kingdom" for the NES three years ago.
You have commands on the left and right part of the screen and in the middle you see the place where you are. Select commands like "Move", "Pick Up", "Use", "Talk", "Examine", "Hit" and a few more to solve the puzzles and to get through the exotic fantasy adventure. This is a command-based adventure, like a simple text adventure, this is not a point&click.
There are 6 or 7 chapters in this game, and it's just nice to travel the lands and watching the idyllic 8-bit scenery, listening to the happy and good music and just being immersed in a completely different world like Alice in Wonderland. It's worth 500pts for that one playthrough. I would buy the VC version, I want to play through it again and I don't have the game anymore.
What SKTTR said. It is similar to games like Shadowgate/Deja Vu/Uninvited in the way you click the commands, but there is not an actual cursor. So for example if you click the Look command, it will list all the things you can look at on the screen, rather than you pointing the cursor on the item. I would say it is a little bit easier than Shadowgate, but it can still be challenging at times. And like SKTTR said, the game has some very good upbeat music. This game is definately a change of pace from most games and is a very unique experience. For 500 points you really can't go wrong.
Yeah, it'd BETTER be easier than Shadowgate, 'cause that game's just plain obtuse and entirely unenjoyable without a walkthrough (and only mildly enjoyable WITH one). For just $5, I want to give this a go...but I can't afford to right now. Hopefully soon...

Shadowgate and Deja-Vu are MUUUUCH harder than Princess Tomato in Salad Kingdom. Actually Princess Tomato is pretty beatable without a guide where Shadowgate is really hardcore adventuring at times. PT is more linear because it's parted up in chapters, it's not as open-worlded as SG. Well, both are adventures, good adventures, but still they're pretty different in my eyes, since in Shadowgate you had a pointer and RPG elements too. It also helps to know that Shadowgate and Deja-Vu and some other NES games of that style were made by Data East/Kemco, and Princess Tomato was made by Hudson.
I think I beat the first shadowgate (Don't recall if i looked anything up, was so long ago. Then again wasn't that before the internet was made for everyone?) I have Shadowgate 64 Need to go back and finish it some day.
Silly me just couldn't wait, and charged the game. I've finished the first two chapters thus far. It's quite enjoyable, and DEFINITELY more reasonable on the difficulty than other games mentioned in this thread. That said, some puzzle answers are still quite obtuse. Finding the Caberet was a pain in the butt!

As @ogo79 said, the SNS-RZ-USA is a prime giveaway that it's not a legit retail cart.
And yes, he is (usually) always right, and he is (almost) the sexiest gamer out there (not counting me) ;)
@oldgamesonly: Okay, you're crazy. This is simply a game Hudson decided to release because they wanted to give it another chance. I don't see as it could possibly have ANYTHING to do with Earthbound whatsoever.
