Do you generally download Virtual Console titles for nostalgia or to play a game you missed originally? Sounds like the answer would be obvious, but I've noticed a high percentage of the games I have downloaded are ones I've never played before.
Looking through my collection, I only have five games that I originally owned (and one of those is an arcade version of a Megadrive title) - all the rest are completely new to me. We're looking at nearly twenty other games I have never played before, yet are considered classics (Mario 64, Link To The Past, Final Fantasy 3, Shining Force 2, Rondo of Blood, Lylat Wars, Super Metroid to name but a few). So, I'm wondering about the rest of you, is your collection mostly nostalgic or is it full of games you missed first time?
A little bit of both actually. I love getting back into old favorites but games I never played before can become new favorites. I'm really glad I was able to discover so many great games I never knew existed.

I'm concentrating on games i either haven't played before or only have played through emulators back in my careless days. I somehow downloaded "The Legend Of Zelda: A Link to the Past" though. I've got it on the GBA and also have got the GameBoy Player for the Gamecube. Maybe i did so because i wanted to play it with the Classic Controller that is nearly the same as the SNES one.
For you, the day LordJumpMad graced your threads, was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday. [url=http://www.backloggery.com/jumpmad]Unive...
I had a Genesis, and most of my VC is stuff I missed on NES/SNES. I definitely have nostalgia for that era of gaming though, so even though the games are mostly new, I still have that fondness for them from playing at friends or wishing I could play them for the most part.
N64 library? All nostalgia.

For me its a bit of both some games I got on the VC is because I either dont have the system or getting the game from the VC was cheaper than buying the original cartridge. Some of the games are old favorites that I cant play right now like River City Ransom or most of the NES games cause I dont have the system. Others I have always wanted to play but couldnt find the games when there were available during their era or I just missed them.
The games I download are almost always games I've played before but never finished. Because I'm familiar with them, I'm forced to claim nostalgia. How else could I justify downloading genesis games for 8 bucks a pop? Nintendo isn't selling games on the VC--they're selling memories.
I've only downloaded a couple of titles out of nostalgia. All the rest is either stuff I missed out on (ex. Paper Mario) or stuff I've hadn't heard of before (ex. Ufouria).

It's a little of both for me. I've got a few that I grew up with (Metal Slug, Dynamite Headdy, Alex Kidd) but most of the games I've downloaded are classics that I didn't have chance to play first time around, stuff like OoT, Majora's Mask, Super Metroid, all the classic Mario platformers.
It's more of a discovering roots rather than new experience, I really enjoy seeing how the series has evolved
Nostalgia for me, I played a ton of NES and SNES back in the day so I have experienced large majority of games in some fashion. I did not complete many games back then though so it is nice to play the familiar parts then start the harder parts as a new experience.
To blessed to be stressed.
80's music makes me feel fabulous.
What Would Duane Do? Rynoggery
I prefer something new, with little references of nostalgia sprinkled in. Most Mario and Zelda games are like that, which makes me love them even more.
