Topic: Nintendo Selects/ New Play Control Pikmin 2 and Mario Power Tennis

Today in North America two new Nintendo Selects titles were released. Pikmin 2 and Mario Power Tennis. Both are New Play Control games but also Nintendo Selects games. I picked up Pikmin 2 and I am addicted! This is my first Pikmin game and it is making me more hyped for Pikmin 3! The strange thing is as while Mario Tennis for Wii has been out since 2009, Pikmin 2 is launching as a Nintendo Selects game, I kinda wish it was under the NPC branding so we could get reversible covers as the Nintendo Selects line does not have reversible covers so we are stuck with the red border. I was planning on picking up Mario Tennis but most reviews say that the controls are off and you are better off getting the original Gamecube version. Anyone else picking up either of these titles? I would like to see if Mario Tennis actually has wonky controls. In closing Pikmin 2 is a steal at $20 because of the prices the GC version goes for because of its rarity or supply and demand. I also think releasing the other NPC titles as Nintendo Selects games would be great, especially the original NPC Pikmin to pair up with Pikmin 2 to build up hype and awareness of the Pikmin franchise and Pikmin 3.

Also Super Smash Bros & Donkey Kong Country have been knocked down to $30! Also this week ToysRus is having a sale of 2 for $50 for those two games and $30 for two Nintendo Selects!

Mario Power Tennis New Play controls has been out for a couple years.
Pikmin 2 NPC did just come out yesterday though. I am definity grabbing it today. Haven't played the GC one in years, and I actually don't' own it. Looking forward to 3.

Yes, Mario Power Tennis was released under the New Play Control! label a few years ago, but is being re-(re-)released under the Nintendo Selects label.
Pikmin 2 however, is being released on Wii for the first time in NA.
(odd they would choose Mario Power Tennis when there's probably much more demand for Metroid Prime Trilogy, if NoA was paying attention. )

Glad I got ahold of the Prime Triology when it was new for 50 bucks! May be the best 50 bucks for the Wii I've spent.

If anyone owns NPC Mario Power Tennis, could you tell me what the controls are like? I am interested in the game but some reviewers say the controls are wonky and don't work well and aiming your shots is difficult because of the controls, and your are better of getting the original GC version. While others say this version is a good game and just as good as the GC version. Plus, since there is no demo for the game, either I wait and see what you all say, or gamble $20 and risk getting a better or worse version of the game. Do not judge on price as I know the GC version is around five to ten bucks cheaper then the Wii version. I would rather spend the extra cash to get the game for a more advanced console with better controls if it is just as good if not better then the GC version. If this version is bad as everyone says it is, I will just get it on Gamecube.

Hmm.. didn't know it was out today.

Gotta finish up Xenoblade and grab Pikmin 2. Never did beat it as I accidentally sold it.

Somehow the GameStops around me managed to sell out in one day, I guess.
Oh well, I ordered it on amazon, so I'll get it whenever they get it in stock.

Another question about NPC Mario Tennis. I read the comments of this websites review ( one of the only positive reviews for this version I have seen) and someone said that the mini games a nearly unplayable because of the controls. Two questions 1. Do the mini games unlock anything and 2. For anyone who has this game are the mini games harder because of the Wii controls? This question is only for the owners of the Wii version of Mario Tennis, not the GC version. I am seriously thinking about buying this now as Toys R Us has a deal where you can get two $20 games for $30, this game being in the deal.

I went to Target, Hastings, Gamestop and Wal-Mart. None of them had Pikmin 2. Target advertised it in the Sunday paper but didn't even know about it. I did finally manage to find it at Best Buy though, so i'm happy about that.

If I didn't have so many other games that I need to get (and finish...), I would get Pikmin 2 again. $20 for that game is a steal, considering how much in-game content there is and how much even used discs of the GCN can go for.

If you are a fan of the first Pikmin game and never played the second one, you need to get ahold of it for the Wii now. It's not much different then the GC version besides improved controls, but it's a real great game. Sort of funny treasures you get sometimes too. No co op story, but there is a good bit of other mulitplayer fun to be had, including an unlockable co op challange mode.
Highly suggested game.

Anyone who is interested in Pikmin 2, get it now as it may become rare like the GC version did. As for Mario Tennis, the controls can be a little wonky but still fun to play. It's worth the twenty bucks.

I found Pikmin 2 at a Target! And I also recieved a email from Club Nintendo stating that Kirby's Epic Yarn was also knocked down to $20 but not as a Nintendo Selects title. I haven't seen it at this price in any stores though, so I don't know what the deal is...

I tried to pre-order, but a GameStop employee once told me GS doesn't take reservations on $20 games.

Well, GameStop was a bust, but the Wal-Mary right next to it had tons of em. I grabbed a copy and am currently LOVIN it.

got over 80% of the debt paid. Some caves are a pain in the butt!! They take a long time to get through...I noticed it saves on each level though. Can you quit and come back later on the same day on the same level???
Also, I got my butt kicked in one cave and took a gyser out early. If I go back, do I have to walk back to the floor I was on previously??
