I'm wanting a good RPG game to play and am looking at either Neutopia or Ys Books 1 and 2, which should I get?

I've heard nothing put positive reviews from Ys, but Neutopia seems more Zelda style, I'm not leaning toward either one. What should I do?

Neither, i have both and really dislike both, stay not leaning
i do consider both adventure games also just to randomly put it out there

Super mario rpg is an rpg though
For adventure like what ur describing zelda is really the heart of it and if u like zelda neutopia is pretty much a dumbed down repetitive "every dungeon room looks the same" zelda game . Dunno how u heard all positive reviews about y's, i really dislike the game lol.

Ys Book I & II and Neutopia are two fabulous RPGs. Ys is a bit more in-depth and epic in feel, but Neutopia is a nice action-rpg that's a bit reminiscent of the original Zelda. Both are top shelf in my book and you can't go wrong with either. If I only could have one, I'd take Ys Book I & II. It laid the groundwork for what RPGs would become and are still to this day and has become one of the most respected rpgs in video game history.

are they really considered rpg's? aren't rpg's more like super mario rpg, dragon quest/warrior, and final fantasy. I thought games like zelda are more adventure, but who cares what u call it, i still really didnt like these two games, i also played through bits like LTG did and i did not find them fun.

I prefer Neutopia & Neutopia II; yet I also still haven't gotten around to playing them after I first got them! It was pretty decent; but slower than molassis... compared to the awesomeness that the Zelda games are!

The Neutopia games are good "clones" of original Zelda, but yes as The Crow mentioned, they are a bit slow (or at least the first one is, haven't played the second) in an old-school way.

She-Ra is awesome. If you believe otherwise, you are clearly wrong.

Ys Book I & II and it's not even close.
Neutopia is good, but Ys is really really really really good.

They are all considered action RPGs but Ys is closest to a true RPG.
You are classifying RPG as to whether or not they have turn-based combat. Turn-based combat doesn't make an RPG.
Upgrading weapons and attributes are key parts of an RPG game.
Zelda has Wooden/White/Master Sword and Blue/Red Ring and Small/Large shield, and hearts for life force.
Neutopia has Bronze/Silver/Strongest Sword and Bronze/Steel/Strongest Armor, and Bronze/Silver/Strongest shield, and bars for life force. Neutopia II has Bronze/Silver/Legendary/Sun Swords, Bronze/Steel/Gold Armor, and Bronze/Silver/Gold shield, and hearts for life force.
These are very RPG-ish elements.

But Ys is a true RPG.
Like Neutopia and Zelda, you can get different swords (Short/Long/Katana/Silver/Flame), armor, shields, and rings.
A sword will increase your STR (attack power), while armor or shields will increase DEF (defensive power). Rings will give other abilities (Power will increase damage, Armor will increase defense, Regen will allow you to regenerate life force while standing still, etc.).
There is an EXP system. Killing monsters will increase your EXP, as will completing missions.
When you level up, your STR, DEF, Max HP, and Max MP (book II only) will increase.

I'm really leaning toward Ys now, is it anything like Geo Land RPG: The Lost Time?

It's very much like Crystalis, if you've played that.
I've never played/heard of Geo Land RPG.

No, not really. Simply being able to increase basic attributes like that doesn't make for an RPG. You can increase your attack power in Castlevania 1 and your life/defense attributes in Super Mario Bros, that doesn't make them "RPGs".

The Ys games are action-RPGs, yes, but the Neutopia games are pure Action-Adventure.

Eh, I said those have RPG-ish qualities. But there's no EXP system or anything, so I don't know.
I also said upgrading weapons and attributes are key parts, but some games (like Zelda) are a little lacking on upgrading attributes. Really there's only max life force. The only upgrade to attack/defense is through items and not through leveling up.
But Ys is most certainly an RPG.

Cheezy

Definately Ys...I loved it and I really don't even enjoy RPG's. The cutscenes and music are fantastic, and I also love how you just bumb into enemies to kill them, lol

I think I'll get Ys. Thanks!!

Don't forget to grab the Neutopia games.
Although Ys is certainly better by a mile (better than 95% of games by a mile), the Neutopia games are also definitely worth buying.

By the last topic it looks like you picked StarTropics over Neutopia, then Ys over Neutopia, please play Neutopia next and don't just skip it altogether.

Ys Book I & II!
Hands down!!
Neutopia is good, but not as good as Ys overall.

To each their own
