Hi, I'm looking to buy a Wii for the first time. I was looking for a Nintendo Wii that also plays the GameCube games and they are very hard to find brand new nowadays. I know that model RVL - 001 is the one that works with Game Cube games but model RVL- 101 doesn't and the following versions don't either. I couldn't find a similar topic on this website.
So I was able to find one although very expensive but the guy says the Wii is brand new but he says it is a in his own words "Nintendo US console" but then says "WORLD EDITION (UAE, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Singapore edition)" Can I trust him, is it a fake Wii or something wrong with it? Will US Nintendo Wii and Game Cube games work on it?
It just seems fishy to me
Don't worry, from what you say, the guy's talking about the Wii's region locking. The US console plays game from North and South America, Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines. I assume Saudi Arabia is included in those.....
That means the console won't be able to buy any game from the European or Japanese regions.
@fighting_tree Also, if you want one for Gamecube games make sure you get the version with the sockets for the gamecube controllers...
...as far as I know the launch Wii definitely has them but the later versions of the Wii had those removed (or at least that's what I've read).
If you're definitely interested in Gamecube games you're probably going to want to use a Gamecube controller with it, so that's something to look out for.
