the 3rd one is my fav and my first entry into the series though i own 6,7,8 they werent quite as fun as the 3rd one thus im hoping it releases on the vc. so yeah im hoping mario party 9 to be somewhat like the n64 installments or even better then 8 thats for sure __
If there is a 9, it should get back to the basics that made the first three installments great...

I agree with the fact that it NEEDS wiimotion plus. That, in addition to online play, and newer characters (SMG characters for example) but I wonder what the theme could be? I mean, after you have been with almost every theme (last one was a carnival of sorts) it is hard to do it again. Why don't they just make it classic mario style? Have different boards that represent different levels of all the mario games? Mushroom kingdom, underwater, bowser's castle, anything from galaxy, a mariokart board. The possibilities are endless for a good MP9

Mario Party was Nintendos 'anybody can play' series, but now they've got the Wii series and many other casual titles I'm not sure there's much room for a Mario Party these days. That said they could make a good one still by just going back and looking at what made the minigames in the first 3 so good. And remove the genie lamp, that thing was annoying. My favourite was no. 2 btw.
I'm not too fussed either way. I've been happy with the way Mario has been treated this generation, with focus on the core series of games rather than party and sports titles. Sure, they're still making some of those titles, but we're already looking toward the 3rd console platformer for Mario this generation. I think that's pretty darn awesome.

I hope the series continues, but I also hope that they shake up Hudson and have some Nintendo devs take significant control over the game. Of the more recent entries, MParty DS and MParty 6 stand out to me as excellent entries, but Hudson just didn't seem to put enough work or vision behind the 8th game.
