All this news lately about games getting funded through Kickstarter got me thinking. There are a lot of licensed games out there that are too expensive for developers to acquire the rights for to release on the VC, so why not try and get them funded through Kickstarter? As an avid retro gamer, I could see myself supporting this. Although I will admit that I don't know if Kickstarter could apply for re-releases of older games.
This could actually work somehow. Supporters could receive a download ticket code if and when the VC title appears on the service. I guess the WiiShop profit threshold would have to be met beforehand. So the publishers would be guaranteed to receive some type of profit, at which time the game was actually made available for download. Each supporter could pay a little extra, to cover the emulation and digital distribution costs.

Give me SSF4+5 capcom or else you WILL be sorry because SSFIV:3D sucked!
Not changing my statements until mario party 1 gets on the virtual console.
How about a kickstarter to get those Irem and Data East titles back on the VC
The thing is Data East's IPs were sold individually, so you'd have to track down who bought what.
The bad thing now about Enix is that they published more than they developed. So they might have to find where the original developers are now if they want to be able to release stuff. (in the case of E.V.O., anyone heard from the people of Almanic lately? )

Ah, I didn't realize Enix only published E.V.O. As for the Data East games that were removed, G-Mode should still have the rights to them. G-Mode is still publishing games for the 3DS VC, so why their games were removed from the Wii VC is anyone's guess. For some reason though, I can't picture a KickStarter effort to bring Silent Debuggers back to the VC very successful (I would have downloaded it though had I gotten warning it would be taken down.)
Kickstarting Earthbound would break everybody's wallet. You do know why it's not already available on the SNES VC, right? The royalties would be through the roof.

Of course I know! But seeing how the company behind the pinball arcade is using KS to buy the Twilight Zone license, Nintendo could edit out everything they are allowed to by NCL (Remember that they prevented NOA from removing the legal references earlier), and use KS to raise money to give credit to those that they can't edit the game with. (Not buy all the licenses, as that would never happen). After all, tons of people really want to play it on the VC.

@TheDreamingHawk, Earthbound just wouldn't be Earthbound, if that many revisions were made. I know I wouldn't support that butchered version, because it would just be a disappointment for me. I'd probably be like, 'What have they done to my teenage memories!?"
How about Kickstarter for college funds. Pledge 1,000 and I'll send you a thank you note.
I've actually been kicking around an idea (pun intended) involving asking for a small amount of money in order to videotape myself making and eating a sandwich. As you can see, it's not very well thought-out.
