Topic: I LOVE the VC and the Service it provides!

I have been a gamer for more than 25 years (29 now...started early on the 2600, thanks parents!). Never have I seen a service as great as the VC. Before we had to purchase additional carts. or comps. to get the old games we love until the VC came along.
Now we sit with 309 titles on the VC and I can't even begin to scratch the surface of 10% of those games. I'm barely into Actraiser but love it, SimCity on the SNES is amazing, and how can I not love Kirby's Dreamland. This is only a small percentage of the games I own which, in reality, is only a small percentage of the games the service provides.

I am big into purchasing original carts. but there are some that I just can't afford, find, or play on US consoles (I'm looking at you Sin and Punishment) but I am so glad the VC service provides me the opportunity to play these games that I can't possibly imagine physically owning. Are all the games that I want out? No, but how can they be! The Wii is going to have a tremendous life span and I'm sure this service will only continue onto the next Nintendo system.

What I love to do, though, is wake up on Monday mornings to see what VC game is released. Sometimes (aka twice) we haven't seen a single game released but this doesn't bother me. I understand, Nintendo, that maybe you have bigger and better games out on WiiWare and you want all the attention on those. That makes sense to me. So, instead, I will get excited to reach a new point in a game I have already purchased! It's all good, because I'm sure either next week, or the week after, we will see another VC release and I will be right there anticipating what the title will be.

Anyways, this is my thank you to Nintendo for providing such a great service and don't worry, I understand that business is business and you're not going to blow out all your games at once, and if a week goes by that you don't release one, don't worry. Most of us patient, greatful, and appreciative fans will understand!

Great post. Nice to hear someone sharing something positive about their VC experience. I'm more than happy with the service too, and wish there were more hours in a day to even consider playing a third of those games. Granted, they may all not be worth playing, but how great to have the choice

Always enjoy hearing stuff like this.

I agree about the time! I wish I had more too! There are some great titles that I've even held off from purchasing because my time is so consumed with other things already! There's also a few that I want to get but I think I can still pick up the cart. for the original system and I will exhaust all my resources finding the carts. before I buy the VC counterpart.

As it stands, I'm going to jump on board soon and purchase the Shining Force and Phantasy Star games. Both great series that will provide hours of great gameplay and those carts. are pretty pricey now.

Wooh-yeah, that's how IT IS (see other post in this sub-forum though not really )
What I really love too is hearing about it with the Newsletter you can sign-up for with Club-Nintendo,
that gives you what's been released. And not before or automatically but a bit later on,
so you can be surprised or find out yourself, by checking the Wii Shop Channel (even before 'tuning' into as well),
as they are released a bit after the actual release.

It is great that we even get a chance to play, what non-Nintendo consoles (shea, man awesome!)
and being able to use all the various controllers for them. Though, yes, some may not be available or 'optimized' for it (games) it's nice to know and use them when you have little battery-power left in your Wii Remote to save power, and has you even viewing some nice little updates and the Operating Manuals are pretty neat also!

You can view some tips or story that you may not have been included in cart-only sales. (Though, yes, you still can search online for original manuals. I got a few original Nintendo game manuals, photo-copied and original yes, and that was nice.)

What's more, is now we can actually download straight to an SD card and play them from there!
Yes, this is very different from other 'life-cycle(s)' of other and original console (games),
and I respect that. I'm glad someone does too, and mentioned it!

Hooray for Nintendo!
Hooray for Nintendo Virtual Console!
(Yes, there are people who still haven't got a Wii yet, so, it's getting pretty good to actually give as a gift to non-gamers, and may actually check out 'classics' they may have played 'long' ago. )

Downloaded Phantasy Star II and IV recently, certainly reminds you how some games are just timeless classics, and maybe re-emphasizes the point that graphics are not the be-all-and-end-all of gaming if the gameplay is intact.

I never expected to have the chance to play those games I either loved or missed the first time around, so you won't hear anything but praise from me

Phantasy Star IV almost ruined a year of my life. I don't know what it was about that game but I couldn't stop playing it, and then replaying it. I was a huge fan of that game. I know I personally never got rid of it so I'm holding out on buying it until I know for sure that it's not somewhere in my parents dungeon of a basement where I found the Genesis.

@J Bitties. HOORAH. At last someone who isn't moaning about the service. I for one love it. The fact that I can play all the games I wanted as a kid but could never afford, or find hidden gems and imports that I've never heard of all on one console is immense. It seems to me that a lot of peple on these forums expect too much from Nintendo. They didn't have to do anything like a VC but they did ,and I for one will be forever grateful for it. So what if a week goes by without a new VC release, there's tons of games on there already, plus wii and gamecube games to play, there's not enough time in the day!!!.

What's this bit for again?

MarkyVigoroth

My reasons why I like Virtual Console:

  1. MONDAY BECOMES THE BEST DAY OF THE WEEK. (No; I am not a Monday-hater, but I did notice this point.)
  2. These games are CHEAP. (The most expensive game costs $12! Also, EVERY NEO-GEO GAME COSTS $9, whose console was notorious for its priciness!)
  3. The direct-download nature gives convenience.
  4. We have A LOT of games. (Sure, I wish we get 3 VC games per week again, but we have a lot from which to choose, now.)
  5. I discover new franchises and systems!
  6. Simply browsing through the catalogue is enjoyable!
  7. I get a lot of fan-art material. (The reasons why I am not currently playing Bio Miracle Bokutte Upa, Neutopia, and my recently-bought Shining Force II was because, in each, I landed in situations that caused me to want to do fan-art!)

For me, the Virtual Console, while not perfect, is THE OPPOSITE of garbage.

By the way, did the starter of this thread start this thread in order to re-align the perspectives of the complainers?

Actually, I like Bowser AND hairy bellies!

Well, at least SOMEONE'S giving a positive opinion about the vc.

While I give an positive opinion on the service as well, it is not nearly as amazing as he think it is. Read my petition and SIGN it to get my point:

I am sorry to rain on your parade, but everyone who wish for an better Virtual Console service needs to do something about this. In fact, I'm not sure if the service will go on for much longer.

Super Smash, there are at least 10 threads you can post your petition on. It is not needed here. Stop making everything about you and what you want. This was started, as Marky so accurately pointed out, to celebrate a service too many people, including yourself, don't appreciate but take advantage of. Please get a hold of yourself.

Marky, you hit it spot on for my reason to create this thread. This is an amazing service and a service Nintendo didn't even need to start but did. I for one love staggered releases because it only extends the life of the service into the next generation where we can hopefully see Saturn, Jaguar (there's got to be one good game!), Dreamcast, etc games released. I actually love when they release one title but make it an event which I think they should do more often.

I digress, it has been a great time reintroducing myself to new series and, something I never expected, introducing my friends to games I played as a kid but they either missed or had completely forgotten about. You wouldn't believe the amount of my friends that I have playing Kid Icarus now. They had no idea how great it was! Now, in retrospect as I type this, the VC service is creating memories with games that have long past and already had memories tied to them. At least in my circle of friends, we haven't had this much fun with a service/games since back in college with Golden Eye or pulling all nighters with SMB3 when I was 12.

I am enjoying what is released right now, I do wish there were more games and they came out faster but still, there are tons to play still.

let me get this straight you are trying to petition against the lack of smash on a thread completly content with the service lol

Yeah it is great isn't it? I originally bought a Wii because I could play some nice recreations of old pinball games on it, but when I read up on the Wii and the Virtual Console, it was like this whole extra chunk of awesome came in the box with the thing -- even if I couldn't find games on the shelf there was always a raft of classics from across a spectrum of consoles which I had never really explored, many of which are as involving as anything you can buy today.

It really is a gem of a service; the idea that it's in jeopardy of dying because a couple of games haven't been released in one territory or because Nintendo is trying to give some attention to the 3rd parties which are flocking to WiiWare seems a bit silly.

The VC service is the main reason I picked up my Wii in the first place (it's also the main reason I picked up my DSi, but this is a thread about how we love the Wii's VC service, so I'll end my DSi rant there).

I remember when I first visited the Wii Shop Channel...my first Virtual Console title was a rerelease of the first game I ever owned - Mario Kart 64...and since then it's been one long ride down the River Nostalgia, not just reliving memories from childhood gaming, but also making new ones (like when I retrieved the Ocarina of Time for the first...er...'time' in Majora's Mask - I'd played it years before, but just as the Clock Tower opened its wooden stairs it was time to go home ...oh well, I've now made it up to the final battle in MM, but I still have yet to beat it )

I'm happy with the service, but still. If Japan can release that many games in a month, we should at least be able to get half that amount. Which means something unusual is happening...

Also, @SSBF99: Going down in quantity is one thing, but quality? LOL

The Virtual Console isn't going any where. It would be nice if the USA and EUR markets got more games, but the copyright laws and such in Japan have made it easier for more games to be released. There's no reason for people to be mad at Ntntendo since it's the publishers of the old games who are holding up things up.

The fact that people are willing to buy any of these VC games and not just find them as a ROM should interest some of these publishers, but obviously it hasn't yet.

WiiWare is here to stay as well. Also another good part of the online service for Nintendo.

I'm glad to hear somebody besides me likes the VC. It is a shame Nintendo has been not supporting the VC here lately.
