I've been wondering why we can't see any licensed game on the Virtual Console anymore and only the abysmal excuse of a game on WiiWare. There's a few that are supposedly good on XBLA and PSN, but why can't we see them? Is it that hard? Unfortunately for the Virtual Console, yes.
Can someone please explain this? Preferably, I'll take any response.
Well, all of the licensed titles that I can think of that hit XBLA recently simply can't be ported to WiiWare due to size issues, so thats part of the problem. As for the VC, there are several problems. Look at the NES Disney games: Capcom most lkely would be willing to let them be released on the VC, but they never had (or lost years ago) the publishing rights to the titles. Even if Disney did decide that letting them be released was a good idea, they may figure the money it would bring isn't worth it.

I know it's harder for old games because the rights to the license can change hands or expire. I don't know why there aren't any for WW though. I would imagine the file size limit leads devs to just make bargain disc releases for licensed games as opposed to downloadable titles.
I am way too lazy to think of something clever. My Backloggery
i think things are just different now, it doesn’t matter who is at fault (be it greedy developers who want to scam bucks off a license or if it nintendo being to cheap to pay out to a 3rd party license holder or whatever the issue). Its not the glory days anymore of the snes era when we got great licensed games on every platform. I think that there are just pros and cons of both XBLA, PSN, and VC. Its a burn not to rock with some licensed games but there are a lot of things that suck about XBLA and PSN. what do you guys think ? i personally think that XBLA is not as impressive as the vc, i copped Ikaruga, Triggerheart Exlicia and Bionic Commando but other than that i found the library to be pretty softcore in my opinion. I would much rather spend my money on TURBOGRAPHX games than some crappy Ninja Turtals remake or some old ps one shooter.
Marvel vs. Capcom 2 Castlevania: Symphony of the Night Banjo-Kazooie King of Fighters '98 Garou: Mark of the Wolves Crystal Defenders Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix
All great games.
Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.
I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

"Great" licensed games back in the SNES days? That's a bit of a stretch. Plus, like today, for every good licensed SNES game you got 5 that sucked. As for your opinion on XBLA, I think you're not looking that hard. Plenty of good stuff.

. @fox why are you trying to front like great liscened games didn't exsit? i didn't say every one was great, homie, don't put words in my mouth. also I actually HAVE dug the crates of the XBLA and it has cool stuff, its got good games like braid, rez hd, galaga legions, mr. driller ect ect But for ever good game you have way more than just "5 that sucked". XBLA is cool if your into that whole peggle/zuma/bejewled genre of puzzle games... i guess...but im not so thats why i said in my opinion the library is softcore. Also Im more into classic games and XBLA mostly just has classic games with and HD polish job and a 15 dollar price tag. Just my opinion though, im more into VC than my XBLA. Im not trying to downgrade no one or anythign lol
@Skiwet No, Punch-out isn't a licensed title. Mike Tyson's Punch-Out is, though.
@DjPhatskillz Oh, I never said that that you thought all licensed games were great (now who's putting words in whom's mouth?). Your exact comment was " Its not the glory days anymore of the snes era when we got great licensed games on every platform." I was simply countering with the fact that most licensed games today and then do, without a doubt, suck.

@fox i don’t think you understand what i was saying. i was not talking about the ratio of quality licensed games to crappy licensed games...i meant 'glory days' because as every one knows there was a surplus of licensed products evenly distributed across all systems. I feel you took what i posted to mean "licensed games suck! hey, remember when they were all gems?!" i'm sorry if I didn't make that clear, in hindsight that post was a little ambiguous on what i was trying to say. i agree with what you said: "most licensed games today and then do, without a doubt, suck." my stance on this thread is this: I feel that Nintendo gets less quality licensed products, whatever the reason is. It sucks but i fear that there isnt much we can do...
@Bahamut ZERO while i agree that comparing the quality of VC vs XBLA vs PSN is kinda a stupid thing to do.i disagree with what you said only a little bit because alot of the best XBLA games are ports or HD 'remixs' . I don't think it is fare to compare wiiware to xbla because of this reason. a fair comparison would be comparing the two groups individually: one group of classic games and one group DLC exclusive games... but than again it all depends on if you think HD remix and graphic updates mean anything..
and regarding my comment about XBLA, it was a little unfair and biased i will admit that... but i mean gimmie a break, im posting in a Virtual Console forum, can't i be allowed to speak a little pro-VC nonsense now and then lol? i kinda regret saying those nasty things about XBLA after Bass XO's list of games and the point Bahamut ZERO made...
yikes that was alot of typing lol...now back to videogames!
Technically, Sam & Max Save the World is also a licenced game, the IP having originated in a comic book. While that game is available on a Wii disc as Sam & Max Season 1, it's horribly glitchy and not worth fighting with.
But good or not, Live Arcade does indeed have more licenced titles than WiiWare, including Rocky & Bulwinkle (crap game based on awesome TV show), Happy Tree Friends, and that Star Trek thing, among others.
I'd rather have no licenced games than BAD licenced games, so as far as that goes, I guess WiiWare is doing pretty well sticking with Strong Bad. I do wish it was plausible to have the classic licenced games released on VC, but we can do without if we must.
My Backloggery Updated sporadically. Got my important online ID's on there, anyway. :P
Well XBLA doesn't have a lot of good licensed games. But like they said above, size is one of the factors. I hope that change in the future. About the VC, rememner that we are talking about games as old as 20 years old (more or less) and licenses are a huge mess to solve right now. Is not that easy. Just look at Goldeneye (N64).
