I don't know why people have such a problem with the N64 controller. I loved it, and you guys must be doing something retarded with the control stick if you think it breaks that easily. Some of my controllers are 15 years old, and still working perfectly. I played the N64 more than any system I've ever owned, and never had a problem with the controller.
I agree, but don't play Mario Party 1 for too long 'cause it'll make you change your mind...

it doesn't break, it just loosens up becomes unresponsive. there'll be a lot of play in the stick and you'll have to push forward hard against the edge just to get your character to run instead of walk. i've probably used about 6 n64 controllers between my own and those belonging to friends and i haven't seen one that didn't suffer the same fate, just from normal use (although mario party may qualify as full on controller abuse). gamecube joysticks seem to hold up much better.

The stick on my red N64 controller finally broke last night (or at least, I discovered it last night - could have been any time in the last month) after 13+ years of use. Someone must have stepped on it or something. Luckily, I still have a gray controller that's barely eve been used, and the control stick is in nearly pristine condition. If the GC pad were slightly bigger, it would be so much better. Still a fantastic pad though, probably the best of any Nintendo system.
except for the D-pad, which may be the worst ever seen on a controller. i don't know how many times i've pushed one direction on it only to have it go the complete opposite way... at least 1/4 of the time that 360 d-pad gets it wrong.
I think my favorite is the wiimote+nunchuk followed by the snes controller. I have had the worst experiences with the gamecube controller. I believe 5 out of 5 of the gamecube controllers I have are messed up in some way.

At least it's not used much. On the PS3 the D-pad is rarely used but is the main focus of the controller. I don't get it...
