Topic: Earth Seeker coming to the West?

Aksys localization editor Ben Bateman told Nintendo Power that he would love to work on Namco Bandai’s Duel Love, but it’s not a realistic possibility. If he were to pick a title that actually has a shot at localization, he’d go with Earth Seeker.

Bateman said:
“Duel Love would be great, but the DS ship has almost certainly sailed on that one. A game that’s slightly more likely that I would love to work on is Earth Seeker. The art and character designs are wonderful, and the world seems pretty cool too.”

Ooh, that'd be excellent - from what I've seen, Earth Seeker looks very interesting.

However, didn't it sell abysmally in Japan? Wikipedia reports its first week sales as just over 4,000. That would seem like a disincentive to spend money bringing it over.

This game has received some attention lately, since Operation Rainfall set their sights on it. And i believe this game can sell a lot more than that in the west.

Well Pandora's Tower didn't sell that well but that got released over here.

Pandora's Tower sold about 20,000 in its first week. I know vgchartz isn't meant to be that accurate, but that's currently saying that Earth Seeker sold 20,000 in it's LIFETIME.

There's quite a big difference between not selling that well and absolutely bombing.

Pandora's Tower will probably do well...for the 3rd most important niche title on the Wii in the year 2012.

I was originally interested in this title but I'm not anymore as it looks too similar to the Monster hunter and Phantasy star portable series and I don't like those series. Also, the combat is awkward as you'll be slashing away at enemies with your sword but to use guardian attacks (guardians are the little creatures that travel with you and can use magic) you have to bring up a menu which pauses the game which would be annoying in an action-rpg. I was pretty keen to see this title brought Westward. Low sales doesn't necessarily mean it won't make it - if anything that might give the Japanese rights-holder incentive to shop it around to try to make back some more money on it.

I didn't enjoy The Last Story, but I'm happy to buy these titles just to encourage them to keep on coming!

Ok, what's with JRPGs deciding that all monster loot needs to be shown by magically appearing treasure chests? Did they think monsters having gold wasn't silly enough? That's just odd.

I have to admit, this game just looks awesome. Even if it actually isn't, I love how this game looks. It's kinda like a much better looking Tales Of game and I'd go as far as saying it looks better than Xenoblade at times.

Not that getting both wouldn't be lovely, but I've actually been hoping to see an Earth Seeker localization much more than Pandora's Tower.

I agree but that will never happen due to how obscure many of the Nintendo characters in it are but I heard that there is a fan translation being made.

Good point, there's that as well. She does swear a lot in that game and there is also a part of the game where Mappo (a police robot from Giftpia) arrests thinking she's the criminal he's after but the criminal he's after is male so you have to find a way to prove that she's female. To do this you have to go to her house and you will notice a frilly pink cushion vibrating, an 'object' can be found underneath that is censored by the game that proves that she's female.
