After playing the demo, Cave Story has become a high priority download for me, but I have one question: Are there checkpoints/save points in the full game? I've played the demo three times, but only because that big white thing got me in one hit and I had to start over. I'm thinking the places where you can refill your hearts would be checkpoints in the full game, but I'm not sure. Also, Assuming checkpoints exist, are they common, or few and far between? Finally, do checkpoints count as save points, or can you only save at special times/places or by using quicksaves?

There's a save point next to almost every health refill you run into.

Thanks! It's a good thing to know before getting the game.

Yeah the white thing annoyed me a lot. Especially since I had to reread all of the character speeches.

Why do people point to their wrists when asking for the time, but don't point to their crotch when they ask where the bathroom is?

I've tried it out, and I love it. I was just going to install the free PC version, but I noticed that it implied that the different difficulty levels aren't in the original version. In combination with the improved graphics, that's a good reason for me to pay up for the WiiWare version, as I doubt I would get very far without being able to play on Easy.

Ash: Professor Oak, how's your Bulbasaur?
Prof. Oak: Oh, it only hurts when I sit.
...
Prof. Oak: It's only Chansey if Krabby won't let go. Bye, now.
Ash: I don't think I'm going to call him anymore.

The game is great. I just played the demo and it really makes appetite for more.

I just tested the demo. I would say it's not worth the 1000-1200 points if you already know the PC version. The "improved" graphics really don't look better. And the new music sounds somehow weird. The only reason I can think of to get this is because:
a) you don't own a PC with either Windows, Linux or MacOS
b) you want to play on your TV instead of your tiny little PC monitor
c) donate money so you can get blessings from someone anonymously
It's without a doubt a very good game but it's also supposed to be free. And I don't see in the demo how the Wii version improves over the PC version.

The game actually is rather liberal in saving points.

What about the different difficulty levels? Am I correct in assuming they don't exist in the original PC version?

@BulbasaurusRex: Yes, they don't exist in the PC version. If you like it a bit easier (or harder?) than this may be an additional reason to buy the game. But the PC version is not really that hard (except for some optional parts).

I've played the PC version and it's practically unplayable with keyboard controls.

The wii version is a delight and a joy.

First of the new batch of demos I'm planning on DL-ing, along with 'Liquidity' as an early Christmas pressie to myself.

Much prefer the Wii version. Like Amorous Badger said, keyboard isn't the way to go, especially when you have to jump around bosses

@Raylax + Amorous Badger: Yes, playing the game with the keyboard is akward. Thus, the PC version of Cave Story supports almost any USB gamecontroller that is Windows compatible. I played the game with a Thrustmaster Firestorm Digital 3 (I paid Eur. 6.99 for it) and it worked perfectly fine.

I think I'd rather use the money spent on a controlller and just buy the game(with it's extra content that's not availiable on the PC version)rather than lay out the same amount of cash on an otherwise needless peripheral for my computer, just so that I can play if for free

The game wasn't that hard to play with a keyboad,
it is a very simple game, and i was able to beat on the PC.

Since I did enjoy the game alot, I went and Got the DSi Cave Story, just to play it on the go.
The PC Cave Story was a better Demo to play with, because, it is what made me want to buy it

@Amorous Badger: Yes, this is true. If you don't already own a gamecontroller for your PC then this isn't worth it. On the other hand, you could use such a controller for many other (classic) games, too. I have this thing for 4 years or so, so I didn't need to think about it.

@JumpMad: Yeah. Some of us have grown up playing platformers on keyboards. It's all a matter of what you are used to.

I tried the demo, and that white thing killed me. Im pleased to hear that you can save in the full version. I havenever played a WiiWare game before, but this might have to be my first, especially if it ends up being one of the games in the NintendoLife Game Club
