This has been going on for a long time so I've semi-gotten used to it, but whenever I play a game, I get this very loud buzzing noise from the disc drive. Do any of you get this?

Yes. It's very, very annoying. That's cheap Nintendo for you. They wanted it to be mass market price, but that comes at the cost of quality.

My Wii is near silent. Maybe i lucked out?

My 360 on the other hand sounds like a jet engine when the disc is spinning, and a slightly less loud jet engine when the disc is idle.

Happens to me as well, but it seems like this only happens with the older Wii's. The newer ones don't seem to have this problem.

Same.

The Game.

Is it after 9PM EST? You should probably ignore the above post.

Those of you who don't have this problem, when did you get your Wii?

My first Wii made that sound..... after a while it started glowing and transformed into an xbox360..... Nintendo never believed me.

I did and I had to have the disc drive replaced. I noticed a loud buzzing noise and started to get disc read errors on Brawl and Mario Kart. I called Nintendo's customer service and if its under warranty they will fix it at no cost.

My Wii has almost always been near silent, I think I got it about a year and a half after they were out. The only time it hasn't was about a year ago it started to buzz unusually loud. Me being fraught with paranoia, I had it sent in to Nintendo immediately, and ever since its been perfect.

Well, I'm really glad you started this thread now, Starkiller. I was worried about sending it in for repairs, but I think I'll go for it now. Thanks, Hylian, Tony, and anyone else who pointed out the replacement offer. I didn't realize there was a solution; I thought it was just an inherent fault of the hardware for being so cheap and small. Hooray for being wrong!

One question though: Did they actually replace the disc reader, or did they just give you a new Wii? I do NOT want to lose my Brawl save data.

Hmm, replacement eh? That's something to consider. I didn't even know this many people had this problem.

I believe they just fixed up the disc drive. When I got it back it had the same serial number and all of the same save data.

Now that's a relief. Thanks.

My Wii just makes a low hum. Seems pretty unnoticeable unless the room is completely quiet.

Adam

$75 out of warranty... yuck. Think I'll just put up with it for now.

I, somehow, know the answer: Your Nintendo Wii's Lens is dirty! I know this because I kept on getting error codes in New Super Mario Bros. Wii, and a Nintendo service employee said to buy an official Nintendo Lens cleaning kit for $9.99 much cheaper than sending the console in! My Nintendo Wii was noisy but after I used the lens cleaner it's silent!
