Round Up: The First Reviews For The Witcher 3 Remastered Are In

Geralt returns this week in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered, and if you are an existing owner of this title on the Switch, you can grab it for free.

The reviews for this update are also rolling in, and although there aren't many Switch 2 impressions just yet, there are some summaries of what players can generally expect. So here's a quick rundown, starting with a "review-in-progress" from our colleagues at Push Square.

Push Square: "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered enhances a title that was already a masterpiece, bringing it more in line with modern releases. It looks and plays better than ever, but don't expect any truly game-changing additions or alterations."

And here's what other critics have said so far:

MP1st: "The Witcher 3 stands as one of the best games of all-time, and this remastered upgrade further cements that. Now, there’s no excuse to jump in and test it out, or replay it for the umpteenth time. Not only are you experiencing one of the best action-RPGs of all-time, but you’re also brushing up on the game’s final story expansion, Songs of the Past, that’s set to release next year and will connect the game to The Witcher 4."

Gaming Bolt - 9/10: "With the two expansions factored in, this is the definitive way to play The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and it’s a modernization of a title that has received a lot of love from its makers and audiences over the years.

"Remastered is an excellent showcase of why that’s the case, and a fine way to indulge in one last romp across The Continent with grumpy old Geralt before Ciri’s charm and compassion take center stage in a new tale"

Polygon: "Unfortunately, the digital environment surrounding the gaming industry means that we will rarely, if ever, get to experience the beauty of Michelangelo’s “unfinished” in a game as we did with The Witcher 3 back in 2015. The remastered edition brings many improvements, but not enough to change the fundamental nature of the game, and that’s good. The Witcher 3’s many faults allow its qualities to shine so much brighter. They’re signs of the very human limitations that make every piece of art unique and ultimately memorable."
