Capcom has been proper busy over the last decade or so, pumping out a delightful mix of new Resident Evil titles alongside critically-acclaimed remake of its older entries.

There's a lingering sense amongst fans, however, that at some point there will simply be no more remakes. The older games will eventually catch up with the new, and Capcom will need to prepare accordingly. Well, apparently it is! According to Jun Takeuchi, at least.

In a post from RENEWS on X (thanks, The Gamer), Takeuchi, who has been with the series since the very beginning and now serves as executive producer, claims that the development teams at Capcom have been "gradually preparing" for the remakes to eventually catch up to the new games.

Here's what he had to say:

"The current Resident Evil series is being developed along two tracks: the numbered titles allow players to experience the ongoing story of the series, while the remake series allows them to experience the past. Someday, the remake series will catch up with the era of the numbered titles, and we are already thinking about what we will do when that happens. In fact, we have been gradually preparing for that since around Resident Evil Village. The appearance of names such as Umbrella and Spencer, as well as the return of Raccoon City in Requiem, are also in preparation for a 'crossover'.

"One of the reasons we regard 7 as a turning point for the series is that it was also the title where we began working on this kind of setup. At first, we included these elements with the sense that they were fan service, but users were far more delighted by them than we had imagined, and they even began analysing the thoughts that the development team had privately kept to itself. So, as a series, we decided to respond to users’ expectations and pushed this setup further in Village and Requiem."

Pretty intriguing, right? It makes us wonder just how Capcom plans to execute this so-called 'crossover' when it eventually runs out of remakes.

The other factor to all of this is that it kind of implies we'll be getting remakes of every mainline entry until RE7. We know Resident Evil Veronica is on its way next year, but rumours also indicate that a fresh remake of the original Resident Evil is also in the works.

Following that, of course, is RE5 and RE6, neither of which are held in particularly high esteem by fans. That said, we think remakes could still work, provided Capcom approaches them in the right way. As for this 'crossover', we imagine such an event is still at least a decade or so away, but we're definitely interested in what's going to happen.

Meanwhile, remakes of Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4 are all heading to the Switch 2 on 15th October 2026.

What do you make of this, dear reader? Are you keen to see remakes of every mainline Resident Evil up to 7: Biohazard? Let us know with a comment.
